Alright, first I want to apologize for any incorrect spelling, grammar and lack of pure fucking common sense. I´ll do this by googling tough words like googling (drop the "e") and incorrect (double fucking "r").

I want to talk about game theory, and specifically how to view

events

. I dont really know what the true definition of the word is, or if I use it correctly but it makes sense in my happy place. I will try to explain my point of view and hopefully bring some fucking laughs in to this clusterfuck, if nothing else you can always laugh

me, because last time I tried to start a discussion I got banned for 3 months.

STORY TIME

During the fall of 2003 I started my military service, I was placed rather tough unit that closely resembles the US Marines (thats right, I need to be a badass on this forum aswell). The few weekends I actually was home was spent horizontaly, not in bliss mind you, but in pain and fucking anguish. I would have my laptop in bed and play games until one day when I heard a friend talking about poker. This is back when sites gave you cash to sign up, you would get like 10 dollars that you could play with and cash out after a certain expired time. I was fucking hooked instantly.

I would lose my free cash, sign up at a new site and get more free cash and lose that aswell. This went on for some time until I had a major fucking hot streak, I turned my free 10 dollars into a thousand over a weekend. This was an eye opener. Many poor players fell by my skill during that weekend. I was the king and this was my fucking realm. Of course I lost it all the next week because jesus fucking christ are these monkeys lucky.

This will get mastin long... so to make a long story short, I finally figured out how to beat the lower levels of cash poker. A combination of passion for the game and a burning competitiveness made me take small improving steps. When I finished my military service I lived off of poker for a year, the income was modest but I could travel some and save enough for a good down payment on the apartment I now live in.

So what does this humble brag have to do with anything? You ask, rotten tomatoes in hand.
Well like any other activity or hobby you spend alot of time on you actually learn truths that you can apply in other fields or in life itself.

Poker taught me how to not isolate events.

In poker I would never ask myself if my opponent had me beat, or if I had the best hand, I would ask myself, that given the information at hand, would my range of possible holdings hold up versus his range of possible holdings, and if so, how do I extract the most value of this situation.
I realized that I could lose a thousand dollar pot and actually have made a profitable play. I just had to stop thinking about the event as an

isolated incident

, but rather something that will happen a

alot of times

.

Basic example, take a six sided dice, i roll the dice and cover it up. I tell you that i will pay you 1 dollar if its even and that you will pay me 2 dollars if its odd. Very basic but its the same thing, sure you can say yes and sure you can win a dollar, but what happens after 50 rolls?

So wtf does this have to do with the game of mafia. God my mind is so stupid I cant actually put words into the fucking idea in my head.
Well it has to do with everything. It has to do with how you cast your vote, how you reflect upon your play after a game, how you view the play of other plays, how you view if a setup is balanced or not and more.

So lets take a game related example. You are in a game (THAT DOES NOT RESEMBLE ANYTHING ONGOING I MIGHT BE IN), you are town and you have a scum read. You manage to get him lynched but he flips town.

Was it a bad play

?

Player x makes a gambit that fails horribly,

did player x play bad

?

Basicly we fall victim to letting the outcome of a play dictate the value of the play

, when no value should be added or subtracted from the outcome. The value is already set when you put your play into action,

the value of a play changes as little from the outcome as when I uncover the dice I rolled.
