Also, I personally think Naxx epics/legendaries should be allowed. They're available to anyone, not random chance, making them essentially basic cards.

Considering 700 gold is 7 rares (or more), and we allow unlimited amounts of rares, I think comparing the gold cost is pretty silly? The basis of banning epics/legendaries is that they're rarer and therefore not everyone can get them. Literally everyone can get the Naxx cards.

There could conceivably be a deck that is worth 3000 gold in this tournament (30 rares, 1 rare per pack).

The entirety of Naxx costs 2800 gold.

Pairings are mostly done. AP/Molla didn't submit, but they technically have until whenever HD posted the pairings last week.

if they don't submit, either:
- molla gets the 0-2 loss because he hasn't been on battle.net in nine days (if so, sorry molla)
- molla/AP draw

already got the pairings up for the draw scenario in our league QT, if HD or AGar think this should be a loss scenario I gave instructions to re-do some matches

as a note, things messed up slightly last week: we had four 2-0 wins (four 0-2 losses) and four 2-1 wins (and four 1-2 losses), and instead of similar records playing each other, things were randomized. oopsie. not a huge deal, it won't matter too much in the long run, but I did manually do the matches* this week so things should be good from here on out.

*well, 4 people had the same exact record, and AP/molla needed to be paired up and down if it's a draw, but mostly manual.

Naxx commons and rares are fine because commons are generally lowish power level. Also allowing those as the only epics/legends kind of centralizes things metagame-wise.

kdowns and chamber have a point with the gold costs (and so do you, Reck) but I'm more concerned about the epics/legends being vastly more powerful as cards.

Right, and that's already an uphill fight for me. My 3 decks have a dust cost of 800, 880 and 1300. Way short of the 3000 dust possible with all rares.

Why though

Naxx epics/legendaries are equally as easy to obtain as the commons/rares

EBWOP: Unless you're concerned the meta will become "people play Maexxna Hunter decks and that's it"... but like, but limiting it to rares only, you're already favoring a certain meta, because there are definitely archetypes/classes that benefit way more from having no epics/legendaries allowed (Zoo, for example).

Also as another little rant:

The format for this league sucks and basically means I don't get to play this week. Molla is gone, hasn't been online in forever. I played esurio D1 of last week. That means I will go two weeks without playing a match in this league. That's a quick way to lose interest.

Furthermore, cutting to Top 8 means why even fucking bother playing the last two weeks if you're 0-2, like me? The reason MtG leagues don't cut to Top 8 and instead do weekly points and the "play 3 matches" format is because it takes months to complete a league. If this was some basic tournament, lasting a few days? Sure, cut to Top 8. But it's a league, it's supposed to be continuous, it's supposed to be constant, and that's not how it's working out.

The format should be... play 3 people per week, gain points, Top 2 play each other in Bo5 after the last week for all the marbles. That's it. The way it stands right now, it'll be 6 weeks of this league and I'll play 3 of them.

access - not all of us have access to the naxx legendaries (which are really good cares). Arachnid quarter cards are sure, but the rest is a bit much.

it's only relevant who won the entire match until rankings are calculated at the end

top 8 you would have to have a record of at least 2-2 (tiebreakers)

I actually just thought of a thing we could do for this season, we could either:

a) Instead of cutting to Top 8, do a full-on single elimination tournament using records only for seeding purposes or
b) We can cut to Top 8

and

Bottom 8 and have two separate brackets (optionally having the champions of each bracket fight)

(I would have posted this in the qt but I was curious about everyone else's thoughts as well)
