FBI appears to be looking into seeing if nfl saw more. I enjoy watching football and their handling of the situation may have been wrong especially if they saw the video before, but i would really hate football going away

no. a former FBI investigator (well former Director anyway, he was a prosecutor before that) is reviewing it, hired by the NFL. That's much different than the FBI looking into it.

ebwop

I posted that when reading the headline anticipating something more but looks like you're right

they wouldn't make it go away but if stuff comes out about nfl handling things bad, worst case scenario would be that. Basically I am guessing they handled it not perfectly but I don't want my football to go away

I don't condone Domestic Violence but I really feel like this Ray Rice thing is getting blown way out of proportion.
Of all tyrannies,a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

The first part of your sentence directly contradicts the second part.

Please try again.

Hey, he could think it's a mildly inappropriate thing to do. Like... it's not a good thing to knock your wife unconscious and then drag her from the elevator nonchalantly, but in the grand scheme of things, smoking pot on the off-season is way worse.

You know... "I don't condone giving wet willies, but I think banning players for it is an overreaction." That kind of thing.

---
Of course, taking such a position on this only makes the sentiment worse, but the statement wouldn't contradict itself! Look forward to the explanation!

I also look forward to the explanation

But taking that line IS condoning domestic violence is the point. Like, when you suggest that you think people are overreacting to something when the reaction has been completely reasonable, you are supporting that thing.

You are helping create a world in which a man can literally beat his fiancee unconscious and walk away without being universally condemned and punished for his actions. That is condoning it.

Not to condone domestic violence, but why are we looking at the NFL to solve this? Dude beat his wife on camera; it should be an open and shut legal case to put the scumbag in jail. The NFL isn't a law-enforcement agency.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

With great power comes great responsibility

They aren't gonna fix it or put him in jail (and there's widespread sentiment that the legal system fucked this one up too), but the NFL taking a strong stance against domestic violence sends a message to a ton of people who watch every Sunday and pay attention to football news, and that's what people are looking for. The NFL is the premier sports organization (except mayyyybe the NCAA) in the US, and a fair dose of social responsibility comes along with that position.

If you beat your wife do you still have a job? Not if you work anywhere in the public eye. (teacher, executive of a publicly traded company, police officer, etc.)

Furthermore, the NFL holds its players to a strict code of conduct through the collective bargaining agreement. If you don't think "beating your wife" falls outside the bounds of any reasonable code of conduct, then you need to get your head examined.

So serious question, why isn't the Adrian Peterson story as big as the Ray Rice story?
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder,
without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better,
and not the world about them?

I don't know the details of APs story very well, but I would imagine its because of how the media works. They were looking for ways to continue the story and they found one.

The ability of someone to physically discipline their child is a weird line and its not one I have a strong opinion on, but I will say if he is being legally charged with abuse then I am willing to bet it was more than a garden variety spanking.

My understanding of the incident is that it made the child bleed. That's all you really need to know.

There's been plenty of talk about AP, but the reason there hasn't been as much talk as about Rice because the correct action was taken immediately by the Vikings in deactivating him.
