With the amount currently in the queue it would be able to go with 3 'courts' - with people losing going straight into the game in the lowest court.

Or does that need one more person in the queue?

The problem would be if we end up with a backlog of being waiting to challenge the champion though.

I'm still trying to put it all together in my head how it would work, but I will put you in the queue for sure.

So, SK, if I do multiple games (say 6 at a time) I would structure it like a pyramid?

Code: Select all

1) /Champ Court\
2) /Challenger Court|Challenger Court\
3)/Beginner Court|Beginner Court|Beginner Court\

The only thing is that it would be top heavy because you have too many winners. The middle is fine because three winners from tier 3 go up and one loser from tier 1 goes down but there's one too many on top when you escalate from tier 2 to tier 1. Is there a way to fix that that I am missing or would that person just have to sit out until the game is over? Then you've of course got two more winners from tier 2 the next round so the problem starts compounding. Can someone draw it out for me better? I really like the idea I just don't see a way around having a glut of players waiting unless there's something obvious I'm missing.

I mean, of course players could continue to play outside of the system while they wait, but it sort of defeats the purpose of it a bit in my eyes.

Unless, of course, you don't let the champion retain his seat. That would be a solution to it. I think that would close the circuit, so to speak. But, again, that kind of defeats the purpose of the concept, I think.

Oh, sure, easy. I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried about the players getting confused (in which case I may put it in Frogstar, but I am hoping to avoid that just because of having less administrative work on my end). But it wouldn't be a problem. Trust me, Mafia Family Feud was 10 times the beast this is.

1

2a
2b

3a
3b
3c

lets say you're in 3c. you win, you move up to 3b. loser falls out and next in queue joins in.

in 3b, if you win, you move up to 3a but if you lose, you move back down to 3c to play a new challenger.

winning in 3a moves you to 2b, losing to 3b.

2a and 2b and 1 follow the same except losing in 2b drops you to 3a and losing the champ game drops you to 2a.

does tgat sound less complicated?

Okay, so no pyramid at all then? Just a straight linear thing?

I'm cool with that, I think. Anyone else want to chime in?

I'm also trying to think what the magic number would be. I'm happy to run as many games as I can fill, but it may be smart to leave a queue of at least a couple of people just in case we need a replacement or something. Five sounds like a good number, but interested in what y'all thought.

The other thing is that the games will be ending at various times, so that would kind of stagnate everything if we do this system. In response to this, I may implement the ability to resign for a player that wants to concede and keep the money they currently have (remember the final round is a "betting" round). It probably would be used sparingly because it's not like the game's very difficult, but it would be nice to have that option nonetheless even if it only happens once every twenty games or so.

Let those waiting do a chain or two by themselves with no money involved, so that no one's bored off their asses waiting for a match above/below them to end?
