Projection means roughly the same thing in the mafia context as it does in the debate context, it's fairly common that a scum-player will notice scummy aspects of their own play and accuse other players of doing them.

It has the added bonus that it pre-emptively discredits any retaliation from the attacked player. "But that's what you did!" is usually ignored or seen as OMGUS.
