Seven years ago that was the rule, as I recall, hence the rule change, as it was utter bullshit. It made an important skill in playing the top deck in the format to speak slowly and clearly and waste tons of time.
Then the Jitte era added a whole new level to the BS.
That's one of the shortcut things I guess I wasn't as familiar with. It makes sense(and I tend to do it explicitly anyway), but I can understand the confusion.
Who all saw the Jeskai Heroic/Ascendancy deck that took down SCG Oakland? What an interesting deck. Ascendancy is
really
good even when not being completely unfair, as it turns out.

Basically you can propose any shortcut that follows a logical progression of the rules.
When you are saying "Pump this four times" you are saying "let us progress to the part of the game where I have pumped this creature four times"
The way the rules handles that is to say "Ok, all the default actions that would have happened between now and the time that we end the shortcut are taken" the default way activating an ability functions is "activate, pass priority" In order to hold priority you would have to explicitly state that you were doing so.
Its just like how you can say, if your opponent is at 6 "Bolt you twice" The default action is cast, pass priority, so your opponent wouldn't be able to say ok, those on the stack, flusterstorm them both.
I was talking to cow, because his post made it seem like he thinks that there are some shortcuts that are "Acceptable" and some that are "not acceptable."
I was just trying to make it clear that you can really shortcut anything if both players agree to it and it follows the rules of the game.
Oh, I didn't mean that some shortcuts are "not acceptable", just that it's a (generally accepted and understood) shortcut that I wasn't quite as familiar with the technical aspects of, and I can understand people (like Klazam and myself in this thread) being a little confused.

I forget the intricacies of the combo, but isn't it illegal just because of the amount of time it takes due to repeating the same action x times with a meaningful change in boardstate or something?

Basically it does a random action repeatedly that results in a known deck configuration. It seeks to setup the deck x way. If you could do it any number of times in theory you could choose the order of the deck, and the rules don't let you short cut to it. If you attempt to do it the real way, if you ever end up at a back to back repeat board state you can get a slow play warning.
PV, I know the houston area actually really loves their Jeskai and Abzan, so I expect to see a lot of that. I am actually playing Jeskai or RDW myself for the tournament.

I found an Azban $$$ deck and a budget Azban version, but need to go through all my standard cards and see what really pops up.
Man, Siege Rhino is such a good card. I'm running it in Modern Angel Pod right now and it's been a ton of value. Still can't decide if it's right to maindeck, but I really like it.
This is what I'm sporting online and probably looking to start piecing together in paper:
4 Birds of Paradise
3 Noble Hierarch
1 Wall of Roots
1 Scavenging Ooze
1 Spellskite
3 Voice of Resurgence
1 Spirit of the Labyrinth
1 Eternal Witness
1 Sin Collector
1 Orzhov Pontiff
4 Kitchen Finks
1 Spike Feeder
1 Restoration Angel
1 Entomber Exarch
1 Siege Rhino
1 Reveillark
1 Archangel of Thune
1 Shriekmaw
you could also Bolt a planeswalker, and if your opponent has any response (like giving it pro-red or something) you could 'Bolt them' instead, since the shortcut is Bolt -> pass -> resolves -> redirect damage.
at least I think that's right.
If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?
No snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible.
(Dont worry m, this is delving in arcane ruleslawyery that shouldnt come up that often- it only came up twice for me in what, 12 years that i been playing this game.)

Let's ditch the obscure and irrelevant rules talk and answer a burning question instead: how does Humility interact with Opalescence?
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
