Arena is about a curve and creatures with good stats. You can't get cute and try to get synergies, because they likely aren't coming. Cards like Chillwind Yeti (4/5 for 4) and Spider Tank (3/4 for 3) are among the best possible picks you can get because of the stats you get for the cost. You want cards which are going to stick around and get extra value, maybe taking out two enemy minions before dying.
It's not easy, though. I think I'm a decent player, but I can barely ever go better than 3/3 in arena.

I can basically guarantee arena doesn't use any player based match making. Record based for sure though. The average is still 3-3 but if you are good you can do consistently better than that.

Finished playing the tutorial, and then played 3 ranked games with the mage girl thing and won them all and now I'm ranked 24.
I also have no idea what I'm doing. Is there a progress bar telling you how far you are from reaching a certain rank or?
Edit: I won another game and now 23 and still have no idea where to check how far I am from a rank
I started ranked the other day-won all my games to rank 20, then faced people who were intelligent, so really struggled. Got stuck on rank 20. Need to unlock some other cards tbf.

Yes. But it's really, really difficult, because it's a card game. It's very grindy to try to get any amount of gold to buy things without spending money. There are decks that you can build that will compete to a certain point, and there's clearly some skill to it. But better cards will always give you a better chance.

I don't understand the hate for hunter decks or for zoo decks. It's a classic card game aggro archetype. They exist in essentially every TCG like this, same with combo and midrange and control. It's going to happen

seventh win in arena. Last game was the only one where I felt the guy was actually kind of good. Are you sure there isn't some behind the scenes mmr?
I do consistently better than 3/3. Thats my only actual evidence. (my average is probably like 5 wins, though I know of some streamers that always seem to break 7).
MechaMage is fairly cheap to build too, and the most expensive card (Archmage Antonidas) happens to also be an incredibly good card for Mage decks, so the Dust isn't wasted.
I don't like Thoughtsteal that much, actually. I think it's a worse Arcane Intellect. Would you run 4 Arcane Intellects in Arena?
