Round 7:

Which of these minerals appear as reference minerals on the Mohs Scale of Mineral Hardness?

A. Fluorite
B. Quartz

C. Gypsum

D. Feldspar

E. Topaz

F. Pyrite
G. Cobalt
H. Graphite

So these are now your answers as the captain has elected to change Graphite to Quartz. Let's check and see how the team did.

Spoiler: How did you do?
Is Topaz correct?

Indeed Topaz is 8 on the scale! What about Gypsum?

Quartz is number 7! Like the number of this round! Which means the offer to buyout is in your hands players! Players, do you think Feldspar is a reference material on the Mohs hardness scale? PM me whether you either want to
KEEP GOING
or
BUYOUT
. If you
BUYOUT
, you will walk away from this game with $100,000 (with $10,000 more for D3f3nd3r and diginova) Or you can
KEEP GOING
and bank on whether you think Feldspar is a reference material on the Mohs Hardness scale and get a chance at a slice of $1,000,000 and a chance at a slice of the $2,000,000 grand prize.

Players please PM your choice within 24 hours.

I am still waiting on a player to PM me their decision. In the meantime I would like to announce an idea that I had.

I can keep coming up with questions on my own and all but in order to keep this game fresh and exciting it might be helpful to have input from multiple perspectives. I am opening the floor to people if they have questions or ideas for questions that might be usable in Greed to PM me with those suggestions. They don't even have to be fully realized questions with all the answers. But I think it might help make it a little easier on me and help with covering gaps in my own knowledge base to give a more well rounded experience to players.

Obviously if you submit a question or idea for one I will not include it in a game you end up playing in. I do reserve the right to edit, change, use, or not use any such submissions as I see fit. As a special thanks I will put your name in a list of contributors in the opening thread if you give me anything as well as thanking you when I post the question! Of course I don't
need
your help to continue this game, plan to keep running this as long as I can and I have no problems doing it by myself, but anything to make it a bit easier on me and maybe make the game even better, would be something I would greatly appreciate.

It turns out I made mistake. I didn't realize it until I had looked into the formula for Feldspar to do the

"....

....

....

...."

thing that I usually do to add suspense. I found out that Feldspar itself is a group of minerals and Feldspar itself was not on any of the scales that I looked at. However, Orthoclase is type of Feldspar which happens to appear on the Mohs mineral scale of hardness. In fact after looking at it now I have found some scales listing Feldspar instead of Orthoclase, but I did not see those as I was making the question. Fluorite was supposed to be the correct answer. Unfortunately it is just now that I realize that I have given you a question with 5 technically correct answers. I apologize for not doing my research thoroughly enough. I saw enough Mohs hardness scales that just listed orthoclase that I was confident that Feldspar was a good "wrong" answer but it was not. So my question here is flawed. As the question itself was flawed in that there were too many correct answers I cannot comfortably accept anything that has happened as a result of my mistake.

So what I have decided is to redo this round. I will give you a new question for round 7 to be posted shortly. We will revert the game to back to right before the question, after the terminator. diginova may decide to use the freebie and StrangerCoug can answer when he sees fit.

If anyone has an questions or concerns with my decision here feel free to PM me.

Yeah, I can't say that I remember Moh's scale very well, but Feldspar being on there is one of the things I was completely certain about. I'm thinking it is one of 7-9, and is the same hardness as Rubies and Sapphires, but more common so is actually a viable benchmark.

Either way, I've been wanting to say something for a while now, but didn't because I assume you don't want the failed applicants having an impact on the game.

Feldspar is a 6. Some scales say Orhtoclase, some say Feldspar. I only happened to see the ones that said Orthoclase, and didn't notice that Orthoclase was a type of Feldspar.

Anyway actually if you do find any issues with my questions like that please PM me. I want the questions to be accurate and in this case it wasn't. So if you (or anyone else) notices things like that in the future please feel free to PM me. If I make a mistake like this I'm probably going to have to redo the question so the sooner I realize it the better.

Technically the option to use the freebie should have been given, but we have been kind of playing where if the first player goes before the captain says anything we go without the freebie because this issue has come up before. I actually just checked STD's official rule and I've been doing it wrong this entire time, technically the choice to use the freebie is when the category is revealed, before I show any answers but I haven't been playing it that way. I will look into that for next game. It's kind of weird to do a freebie now since we've had two answers given...

EDIT: I posted something but I changed my mind. I will strive to be more diligent about when and how it is supposed to be used next game.

JasonWazza you may give your answer.

Granite is correct! Alright folks, you know the deal because I just explained it like 2 days ago. But you have 3 correct answers and you now have the option of taking a $100,000 right now in a BUYOUT or you can STAY if you think Obsidian is the final correct answer giving you $1,000,000 and a shot at the $2,000,000. Of course if it's wrong and you stay, you get nothing! (Unless you are diginova or D3f3nd3r than you can add $10,000 to whatever your winnings are of course.) Please PM me your decision!

Obsidian is correct! Well done team! The category for question 8 is Flags. Players are now given the option to walk away with the money they have earned ($200,000 except for diginova and D3f3nd3r who would get $210,000) or continue on. Since you have retained your Freebie I will automatically remove one wrong answer. Please PM me once again if you want to give this last question a shot or walk away at this point. There will be no more buyouts after this point.

So before I post question 8 we need to see who's on the team and who walked away with the money earned up to question 7. So who has the need for greed? Who's walking away?

Spoiler: StrangerCoug...
HAS THE NEED FOR GREED!

Spoiler: PrivateI...
HAS THE NEED FOR GREED!

Spoiler: JasonaWazza...
HAS THE NEED FOR GREED!

Spoiler: D3f3nd3r...
IS WALKING AWAY!

Spoiler: diginova...
IS WALKING AWAY!

Spoiler: WHICH MEANS...
D3f3nd34r and diginova both walk away with $210,000. For the rest of you, you will have no resets, you can't change any answers and you will have no more buyouts. It's all or nothing for you. So you must get all 4 answers correctly. One wrong answer, you get nothing. Four correct answers will allow you to split the money 3 ways. I'm too tired to do the math right now but it's a lot. (I will post that shortly just to confirm). Since there are three of you, it will go in order, StrangerCoug, PrivateI, JasonWazza, and then back to StrangerCoug. You do have your freebie still so I will eliminate one wrong answer for you. The question in incoming.
