I wasn't sure what to expect out of the Elise - I've seen tank Elise and damage Elise, and I always expect tank Elise more. Maybe that was wrong of me.

I dont think you need to do a lot of magic damage to count as an ap damage threat. If they dont build mr, you still will do a bunch of damage, and if they do you've done your job.
(It's only OP on Sona if you have a team that autoattacks, but you wouldn't pick Sona unless you had one of those, anyway, because of how her Q aura works.)
He's a marksman in that he uses his autoattack to deal damage, but he's not an ADC. That's what he means. He doesn't have any AD scaling in his kit, and his range is too short to rely just on late-game scaling with 5 items that improve his autoattack.
ADC means attack damage carry. It's the champion who will build items that are focused on making their autoattacks frequent and strong who almost always go botlane with a support.
AD means attack damage. Some champions are said to "have AD scaling," meaning that building AD items make their abilities stronger. Sivir is like this -- building AD makes her boomerang stronger.
Some ADC champions (well, no one these days really, but previously Tristana before her rework) build as ADCs even though they don't have any AD scaling on their abilities. In those cases, it works because their autoattack range is so long late-game that they can focus on items that make their autoattacks strong and just abuse that. Caitlyn works similarly, though she does have some AD scaling.
Teemo has mostly AP scaling, meaning that his abilities get stronger as you build AP. That's why you normally build stuff on him that increases his AP or magic penetration. He's a "marksman," but only in the sense that Azir is a "marksman."
I would label him a Support/Marksman if I were in charge of his labels, since his major contribution is vision with his mushrooms.
Okay so Ekko on PBE feels very burst and mobile but extremely squishy and mana hungry.
He does really good vs 1v1s but like he's so squishy for team fights, and has a hard time reaching the back line mainly because his mobility is good for running away/chasing single targets buts he would have a very hard time getting through a front line.
I might play him more tomorrow on PBE to get more of a feel for him.
Edit: Right now I think Zed/Talon/Yasuo feel superior than him mainly because they don't have to build so much CDR and don't have so much mana problems.
vezokpiraka: If you are playing on EUNE we can duo.
chesskid3: I play on NA because i enjoy my freedom.

I would label him as Mage/Marksman. A marksman is a person who deals consistent damage through autoattacks (see: Azir). An ADC is someone who does so while also building AD items.

but he's kind of a weird champ who doesn't fit SUPER well into any category
He's a decent duelist, even a better splitpusher, a lanebully. As most 1v1 focussed champs he's not the greatest in teamfights, but he can bring some peel, can dive the backline some.
Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.
