they don't really show whether spamming is good or bad

they show that it was ANNOYING. and that it killed motivation.

if you were reading the game in real time it would have been clear. reading it after the fact doesn't give a good impression unless you are really analyzing the time stamps of each post.

after a D1 that becomes 100+ pages because one or two people want to post bullshit and nonsense over 2 or 3 times as many posts as anyone else, it's more often that people get burnt out trying to keep up with those one or two people. other voices get drowned out. people get lazy and don't want to go back and reread. things get missed because there just isn't enough time or energy to review things in depth.

it's absolutely a scum tactic and it works. and the townies who do it need to, seriously, fucking. shut. up. and let others contribute.

oh yeah. Xmen is another one. You don't think [redacted]'s complete lack of consideration for the input of others on D1 had anything to do with the demotivation that occurred thereafter?

p-edit: hell yeah it does. how many subtleties do you think you can pick up having to read 20 pages versus having to read 120 pages?

Actually you can't, if they're making just enough posts to stay within the prod range and even missing one or two, you can't replace them.

But that's a (rehash of) another discussion of lurkers, and this is a thread about the opposite problem.

Basically, as in almost all things, it's best to achieve a happy medium, but there will always be outliers on either end of the spectrum who are annoying to play with because they're posting either too much or too little. With "too much" and "too little" being defined by you, the reader.

I don't have a problem with people who post only once or twice a day. I don't have a problem with people who respond to (almost) everything, as long as what they are posting isn't fluffy bullshit.

Then there are people, who I will not name, that just go on and on and on with bullshit, to the point of splitting up sentences or thoughts into multiple posts, within a minute or two. It's just inconsiderate and unnecessary.
