I will agree that the existence of a crumb does not prove anything - but the existence of a targeting crumb does make rather large holes in your "he's needing to play cagey to avoid being locked in"
Because now, for me to be scum and cagey (which appears to be your raised issue) I would also need to be making multiple crumbs in order to avoid being locked in.
Are you stating this as the case? Because if not I fail to follow your issue with crumbs unless they're ambiguous - and I will assure you mine are not and that I would share your issue with ambiguous crumbs.
