Newbie Setup

Matrix6 (as designed by Cogito Ergo Sum):

ABC
1Town JailkeeperVanilla TownieMafia Goon
2Mafia RoleblockerTown CopTown Doctor
3Town 1-shot

Bulletproof
Mafia GoonTown Tracker

Each Newbie Game will be given a setup that incorporates either one row or one column. The remaining six roles will be filled in by mafia goons and vanilla townies appropriately, to create a 2-mafia and 7-town setup. For example Row 1 (1 jailkeeper, 1 vanilla townie, 1 mafia goon) would add an additional 5 vanilla townies and 1 mafia goon, for a total setup of 1 jailkeeper, 6 vanilla townies, and 2 mafia goons.

*Roleblocker will take precedence over jailkeeper when resolving night actions should that apply.

Spoiler: Sample Role PMs

Voting and Deadlines:

1. Voting must be bolded in the form
Vote: Player
- bold tags

Code: Select all

Vote: Player
or

VOTE: Player vote tags

Code: Select all

[vote]Player[/vote]

or else they will not be counted. Unvotes are not required to change your vote, but they are helpful. Please note: I'm using an automated vote counter. If you don't use the vote tags, be sure to add a colon after the word "Vote".

2. I don't mind if you use nicknames/abbreviations when you vote someone. But if I have no idea who you're voting for, then the vote won't be counted. Please note: the vote counting application may be more finicky about nicknames than I am. If you notice that your vote hasn't been recorded, please let me know.

3. Lynches require a majority of votes: (number of living players/2) +1, rounded down.

4. If there's no majority at deadline, there's no lynch.

5. When the hammer vote is cast, all players, including the lynched may talk freely until the final vote count and lynched player's cardflip have been posted. I will lock the game thread at that time.

6. When you are hammered, on the following day, you may make a "bah" post with no game-relevant information. Nothing more.

7. Deadlines are set at two weeks and extensions will only be given in the most extreme of circumstances.

Prods and Replacements:

1. Prods will be given if you do not post in
48 hours
. Weekends count as a single full day in determining if a prod is due.

2. You will be replaced if you either do not respond to a prod, or need to be prodded more than 3 times total. You may request for a player to be prodded at any time, but the less you request, the happier your mod is. Prods requested when a player has been absent for less than 48 hours do not count for replacement purposes.

3. If you're V/LA, make sure I know. If you are V/LA for more than a week, I'd suggest requesting replacement, but that's not required. If a lengthy V/LA is adversely affecting the game (e.g., if you are not able to post minimally during that time), then your mod may replace you.without penalty.

Misc.

1. Dark Blue (#004080) is the color I will use for mod posts. Please don’t use this color or otherwise try to make your posts look like mod posts..

2. You can talk about the game in the private threads given to you via PM. Otherwise, please refrain from talking about this game outside of this thread, and don't talk about other games inside of this game. This is a sitewide rule. See announcement here.

3. No editing, deleting, using invisible texts, write in code, etc...

4. Don't quote or talk about any mod-recieved PMs. Your flavor is for you to enjoy and you only until the end of the game.

5. I make mistakes. If you notice I make one, please let me know.

6. Questions are vastly preferable to Modkills. If you're thinking about to do something that you're unsure is within the letter or spirit of these rules and the game of mafia, then tell me about it.

Why is bandwagoning something scum will do over town?

Can town not bandwagon?

Can people not have similar reasons for votes?

Hell, buddying would have been a better call there.

Why bandwagoning?

However, for your particular case, you should be replacing "similar" with the word "same" or "identical".

He said Hi, 1 person votes for him and you say i agree. well if there was actually a reason or he did something/said something bad i understand that 2 people vote for the same person, but seeing as you vote for him cause you agree that saying Hi means somebody is guilty makes you very, very suspicious in my opinion

Here's another instance where I've done this based purely off of RVS posts.

So sure.

Have you considered the possibility that, my first post was hte first time I was available to post and had read, so if I agreed why would I not have said anything?

So RVS says that someone is guilty for no reason at all and you follow up with that. my vote will stay on you cause you are just very suspicious to me right now, you dont have your own reasons to vote for somebody you just follow another plays opinion which in this case is. saying hi first means you are guilty.

Random luck, imo. Doesn't really prove your case if it's a single incident (Also, why compare spectating to your current play? Where are the actual games where you scum hunt based on RVS replies?).

Except I clearly do?

Just because he said it first doesn't mean I don't feel the same way.

It's not even that he said hi first.

It's very curt, it feels moreso like nervous stepping in (see, the guy who siad "Hiiiiiiiiiiii Everybody." in the game I linked. What did he flip?)

But no, that's not why I feel that way at all.

You're welcome to prod me on it if you want, but don't misconstrue my reasoning.

Not necessarily RVS, but http://forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.ph ... 3#p6229173 is where I scumhunt based off of replies to my RQS.

I don't play a ton of newbies anymore so I rarely get the chance to scumhunt based off of RVS.

That being said, what do you think of Jguy's push, misconstruing the reasoning behind my push? Saying I don't have my own reasons?

I still don't "get" RVS, but I guess I'm relived it is over(?) now.

Hey everybody!

I am Micc and I am the Inexperienced Challenged (IC) player in this game. What this means is first and foremost - I am here to play this game with you in a way that will show you what it is like to play on Mafiascum.net and hopefully set an example for you to follow. I am here to win and should be treated as such.

My goals and the rules governing my actions are covered in this handy article: Being a good IC

That article is part of our MafiaWiki System. I highly recommend this system as a good way to get your feet wet and to find out what a lot of the common abbreviations mean.

There is a lot of play strategy discussed in there too. A lot of players consider that advice almost all outdated now. I don't recommend trying to run verbatim with anything there, but a lot of the basic advice is very good to at least be aware of as it can help you avoid blatant pitfalls as you become familiar with the game play here.

Now, as an IC I am here as a resource for you to ask questions of concerning game theory. I WILL NOT lie about game theory answers and will answer them to the best of my ability. I will also offer you the following quick pieces of advice;

1. Don't self-vote. (There are really no points during a Newbie setup where this is a good idea, please avoid it however logical you may think it is)
2. It's generally considered bad town play to simply hammer (place the final vote on somebody to cause their lynch) somebody without 'stating intent to hammer' first. This gives the person under threat of being lynched time to claim, if he so chooses, and make their final post(s).
3. This site frowns on lying if you are a vanilla town role. I strongly advise against lying if you have this role as usually it will only hurt town in the end.
4. It's a game - have fun.

The wiki page on RVS is a good place to start. Like a lot if wiki things its probably a little outdated, but I'll be happy to answer specific questions when I have more time.

I'm a little unclear here- notscience, are you saying your vote on VeeGee for saying "hi" wasn't just at random? I see you've linked to other games where you've caught scum based off RVS stage, but saying "hi" is the most innocuous, neutral thing a player can say. So I guess I'm wondering if you're voting VeeGee just for the sake of having an early bandwagon (which, from what I understand, is good for getting out of RVS) or because you actually find "hi" suspicious.

Also confused at how JoramanVugt can find somebody "very, very suspicious" not even 10 posts into the game. This whole thing reeks of overanalysis.

Let me answer your question with another-

How do you expect to get out of RVS with a bandwagon for the sake of getting RVS?

I'm serious about my vote. I know it's strange, but given how much we've had thus far, that is the avenue I believe scum is most likely found behind. Maybe it's overanalysis, I've been known to do it before, but I've also been right when overanalyzing before, so.
