In post 49, Zachrulez wrote:Okay ETL. I think you need to give an example of where this has happened outside of marathon.

Like if I was playing a game with you, I could totally see myself pretending to be totally divested from the game just to see how you would react to it. (A ploy to read you... AHA.)

Ok... not really, but yeah. Example?

That would constitute libel, so no. ETL is deliberately being vague about who this thread is attacking, and after thinking it for 30 seconds I think I know who because I can read ETL's mind.

I agree with zachrulez #8 and #10, it is a legitimate scum strategy. The only way to prevent such behavior is to blacklist.

As a mod I have a few players I will not allow into my games because of anti town/ ruining games I have played in or modded.
I also think WoTc is a good thing if you really don't want to play with those types

for me it takes about 2 to 3 players I know who say something like, farside save yourself a headache and don't let this person in your game.

that's cool, but not really helpful. I'd agree this is a bad thing but have never seen it happen, so yeah, w/e?

There's a difference between saying 'I don't care' publicly in the thread and 'I don't care' by PM answering the mod.

I meant that I’d heard all three terms used but I didn’t know if they were synonyms. who is the “one” being referred to in wisdom of the one?

someone correct me if wrong;

Wisdom of the One: One person can kick someone they don't want to play with out, providing they signed up before that person.
Wisdom of the Crowd: More than one players (number depending on mod) request they want a player kicked.

Wisdom of the Mod is simply a mod rejecting a player because they don't want them in their game.

I've never seen what ETL is talking about to that bad of an extent, but if something like that does happen I expect asking the mod to force replace that player could probably be a thing too.

Maybe in my next game I'll add a rule for removing players who are objectionable to the masses. Like in addition to voting, you could use the Hurt tag and if the same number of people needed to lynch Hurt a player, that player is force-replaced. That means town doesn't have to waste a policy lynch.

Usable only during D1 (maybe D2, and probably usable on any replacement who comes in on a later day, for one game day).

If a mod removed a player for being flagrantly unhelpful, even if by the request of the players, I would consider it evidence that the player is town.

I agree with FG on this one.

EDIT: I could see an argument for modkilling them outright if they're town, but that also has undesirable consequences.

If I remove any player on the request of other players, it is no reflection of the removed player's alignment. I've seen both town and scum be singularly unhelpful. I have one person in mind who's acted the same way in both alignments, and while I'm blacklisting said player from any of my games, I may not be aware of others.

That sounds exploitable. Like, there's player X who is very good at being unreadable so town decides to hurt them out of the game so they can get someone more readable. Isn't that unfair to that player?

On the other hand, if you make it so that you have a say on the situation and force-replace only if you feel the player deserves it rather than just do it when Hurt reaches majority, you get into the situation Kagami described.

Hm. I'll have to think about it.

Hopefully all those players could be weeded out pre-game though. That would be for the best.

I mean in a world with wisdom of the mod and crowd to weed out problem players pre-game, this should be a pretty rare problem in practice?

If they are town then they can be banned for gamethrowing. By not contributing, you are hurting the town which means you are gamethrowing.

In post 0, EspeciallyTheLies wrote:I am not proposing banning lurkers. What I am saying is that we ban players who ruin games with trolling, do we not? How is signing up for a game and then blatantly not playing any less of an offense?

Example:
Player A: Hey Player C, why haven't you posted anything game related in all of your 50 posts?

Player C: Because I don't care.

Player B: Then why did you sign up?

Player C: Does it matter?

Player A: What are your reads?

Player C: I don't have any. I'm not really reading the game.

Player B: Do you need to be replaced then?

Player C: No. I just don't care.

***Lynch Player C. He was town.***

^ I have come across this shit far too often. It's not fair to the people who signed up to play game with others, only to have one of their team mates take up space and blatantly do nothing. Literally... not playing the game.

Again, this is
not
about lurking. This is just another form of trolling in my opinion. It's like a hockey player laying down on the ice. And I really think we need to make this punishable.

If you're going to ban people for ruining games, then ban people for ruining games.

This post describes SXTLHGaiden's playstyle to a T. I have no idea why he even signs up for games, as he never seems to play.
