Such was the common inquiry for the parents of Zack Fair, hailing from Gongaga, ever since his deployment to the mountain town of Nibelheim five years ago and subsequent disappearance. Reports had been sketchy at best, but the official word had been "Shinra responded to a disturbance with the Mako reactor outside of town, and all was well." Representatives of Shinra would not even corroborate their son's enlistment, much less his presence on site.

Gongaga's own reactor's sabotage, which Shinra had attributed to AVALANCHE, had made the residents of the town distrustful of both organizations. Still, Zack's parents had been proud of his acceptance into the SOLDIER unit, and even moreso when he'd written to tell him that he'd be serving alongside his personal idol.

That was the last they'd heard from him. Perhaps their closure would come another day.

The man called Dyne stood over a ravine in the Corel desert as he had many times before.

He did not weep for his lost family; he had long past became bereft of the empathy required for such an act.
The burning hatred for those that led to the downfall of his town had similarly subsided with time.

And that was how he knew that his own time had come.

Rather than make a big deal of it, he simply walked off into the distance from the prison yard. The guards cared little about anyone venturing off North -- there wasn't anything in that direction for miles other than sand and heat. If anyone was to escape, it would have to be via the Gold Saucer.

No one noticed when one day he just didn't come back.

So he stood, minutes turning into hours, and allowed himself a few more moments of peace, quiet contemplation, and, for the first time in many many years, hope that he might be reunited with his family soon.

I don't think I even need an explanation for this. But I certainly love how there was a nice paragraph hoping to paint me as a future mislynch before D-1 ended and I could even retort. But its not even worth my time to retort. In the words of a good friend, your reads are either shit or you are scum. And especially in a multiball game, I expect the ladder of those statements.
