All right, I'm going to try (again) on the 2015 version of...

Image

And here are the rules.

$ALE OF THE CENTURY

(I've combined all 3 american versions plus the recent aussie version)

3 contestants (1 a returning champion) compete in both versions.

Game Format
-----------
Round 1:
  1. 10 Questions
  2. "DisorDat" Sprint Round (30-second Sprint Round)
  3. Instant Bargain
  4. Knock-Out
  5. 10 Questions
  6. The Fame Game

Round 2:
  1. 6 Questions
  2. Instant Bargain
  3. Specialty Question
  4. The Fame Game
  5. 6 Questions
  6. Devil's Temptation
  7. Sprint Round (30-second Speed Round)

Round 3:
  1. 5 Questions
  2. Instant Ca$h
  3. 5 Questions
  4. Specialty Question
  5. Total Knock-Out
  6. The Fame Game

Final Round:
  1. Shopper's Challenge Round (90-second Speed Round)

Bonus Round:
  1. The $ale of the Century Round

Gameplay:

Three players compete. They are given $20 at the start of the game. General knowledge toss up questions worth $5 in Round 1 are asked.
Right answers add to their score, incorrect answers subtract the money. Regardless, the other two players do not get a chance to answer.
Each round consists of 2 sets of questions, an Instant Bargain in the middle of the round, a Specialty Question and/or Speed Round, and a Fame Game, except the Final Round. The questions increase in value throughout the game. In Round 2, questions are worth $10, and in Round 3, questions are worth $15.

DisorDat Sprint Round:

This is a Sprint Round played for 30 seconds. The players are given a category and a series of subjects, and it is up to the player who buzzes in to determine which category the subject falls under (or, in some cases, whether the subject fits both of the two categories). For example, a player might have to determine if Jay Leno was a daytime or a nighttime talk show host, or if orecchiette is a type of pasta or a parasite. $3 is added for every correct answer, and $3 is deducted for every wrong answer.

Instant Bargain:

During periods of the program, the game is stopped to offer the leader a chance to buy a prize with their score. The host may even reduce the price even further or offer the player money in hopes of convincing them to buy.
In the event of a tie, any participating players are offered the prize through a Dutch auction. The first player to hit their buzzer receives the prize at the last announced price by the host.
Once the prize is bought or the deal is closed, an occasional Sale Surprise containing money or an extra prize may reveal itself.

Knock-Out (Round 1):

This game is based on Greggo's Knockout.
Contestants take turns selecting answers based on a Family Feud style question. There are 12 answers; 9 answers made it to the top, but 3 didn't.
A correct answer is worth cash (2 answers are each worth $2, 2 answers are worth $3, 3 are each worth $5, 1 is worth $10, and 1 is worth $15).
If a contestant selected a incorrect answer, s/he is knocked out of the rest of the round. The game continued until all 9 correct answers are found or until all 3 players are eliminated.

The Fame Game:

The host would read a series of clues leading to a famous person, place, or thing. The first player to buzz in had a chance to answer. An incorrect answer forced that player to sit out the rest of the question without money penalties. The first contestant to buzz in with a correct answer faced a game board with nine numbers (1-9).

Fame Game Spaces:

Prizes:
A prize worth between $100 to $1,000 is given to the player.
Cash:
A cash prize is given to the player (Between $250 to $1000).
Money Cards:
If found, they add the card amount to the player's score. Initially, a $5 and a $10 card is offered in this round. The $15 Money Card is added for the second Fame Game, and the $25 Money Card is added for the third and final.
Mystery Money or Pick Again:
This is available in Round 3 only. The player may take an unknown amount of cash or pick another space.
True or False:
A true or false question is asked. If a player gets it right, they get to take $10 away from an opponent and add it to their score.
Surprise:
This is available in Round 3 only. A player is given the decision to take what's hidden behind the space or take $2000 in cash. The Surprise space can be anything, including a Mystery Cash Amount, a $20 Money Card, additional prizes, or Combination, or a forfeiture of $10.
Lockout:
This is available in Rounds 1 and 2 only. If found, the player gets to force an opponent out of play for the following three questions.
Turbo:
This is available in Rounds 1 and 2 only. For the player alone, the following three questions in this first round are worth +/- $10 instead of the normal set. In Round 2, it's +/- $20.
Instant Ca$h Bump:
This is available in Rounds 1 and 2 only. If found, then an extra $5,000 is added to the Instant Cash jackpot.

Round 2 Specialty Questions:

One of these will happen:

The Put The Choices Into Order Then Buzz In And See If You Are Right Question:
The host gives up to four items and the player has to buzz in to the corresponding correct answer. Whoever gets it right is awarded extra cash in their pocket, however, the extra money is not lost if a player is wrong.
Bug Out:
The goal is simple: Bugs will crawl and display a choice. When you see a choice that does not match the clue, buzz in. If you are right, your opponents pay you money. If you are wrong, you pay your opponents.
HeadButt:
These also follow the rules of the Gibberish Questions. Players are given a word equation such as "color of pickles + opposite of night" and have to put it together to form a name or other group (in this case, the color of pickles is "Green", and the opposite of night is "Day", so the answer would be "Green Day").
$ale BINGO:
A five-letter word related to the theme is first given (for example, R-I-F-L-E in a show about guns). A clue to an answer is provided, after which the letters in the given word are randomly lit. The contestants are to buzz in when the first letter to the clue's answer is lighted. (In the example, the clue may be "Finish the saying: '_______, stock and barrel'"; the player rings in when the "L" is lit for the word "Lock.") $5 and that answer's letter is given to the first player who is correct, and the next clue is given; a $5 penalty is received for wrongly timed responses. The first to collect enough answers to spell out the given word wins the prize declared before the start of this round; it can go unrewarded if nobody finishes the word after a set number of clues.
Road Kill:
In this fast-paced question type, players are given seven pairs of clues. The players must buzz in and tells the host the word that connects the two clues in a pair. At the end of the round, players can earn a bonus for choosing the attribute that all the correct answers have in common.
ThreeWay:
Players are given three words that have something in common (for example: solid, liquid, and gas) and several clues that only relate to one of the words (for example, "______ Plumr"). Players must match the clues to the proper words. Once the possible answers are given, and the clue is shown, the player must buzz in with the correct answer (in this case, "liquid").
When Did It Happen:
It follows the same rules as the ThreeWay. The player is given an event and must decide if several other events occurred before it, after it, or never occurred at all.

Devil's Temptation (Round 2):

There is a box next to the host, and the player in the lead has the opportunity to buy for $15. If there's a tie, unlike Instant Bargains, there are no auctions. The price is still $15.
One of the three things will happen:

1. Box contains Nothing
2. Box contains a Prize between $3000 to $7000
3. Diamond Jackpots Slot Machine (Based on IGT's Diamond Jackpots Multi-Level Progressive)

Red Diamond = Mega Jackpot (Between $1,000,000 to $10,000,000)
Blue Diamond = Maxi Jackpot (Between $300,000 to $750,000)
Green Diamond = Major Jackpot (Between $100,000 to $300,000)
White Diamond = Minor Jackpot (Between $25,000 to $100,000)

To win any of the Diamond Jackpots, the player must become the Grand Champion.

Sprint Round:

The host would ask the contestants rapid-firing questions for 30 seconds before the 2nd round ends.
Buzzing in with the correct answer is worth $7 while an incorrect answer costs $7.

Instant Ca$h:

Like the "Instant Bargains" the player in the lead had a chance to choice 1 of 3 boxes, 2 of them each had $100 and 1 had a big cash prize which started at $5,000 and went up by $1,000 each time it wasn't won, or $5,000 if the "Instant Ca$h Bump" is found.
The price of the "Instant Cash" was how much the player in the lead was over the second place player's score (for example, if the first place player's score was $45 and the second place player's score was $35 then the price of the "Instant Ca$h" was $10).
If there was a tie, an auction was held.

Round 3 Specialty Questions:

One of these will happen:

Do The Math Question:
This Special Question is worth $50. All 3 contestants were asked a math question involving several elements of pop culture and fact, performing the operations in the order they appeared in the question: for instance, the unit number on M*A*S*H added to the number of digits in a U.S. Social Security number, minus the number of Beatles on the cover on the cover of The White Album, and the result divided by the
number represented by a roll of "snake eyes"; the answer would be (4077 + 9 - 0) / 2 = 2043. The time limit is 30 seconds, and at the end of the time, the answer will be revealed, and the players will reveal their answers. Any player answering correctly earns $50. Like the Fame Game, there is no penalty for incorrect answer.
Gibberish Questions:
Based on Mad Gab, players are given a mondegreen: a nonsensical phrase that rhymes with a more common phrase or title. For example, "Pre-empt Tires, Like Crack" could be the gibberish to The Empire Strikes Back. The question has a time limit of 30 seconds, and the first player to buzz in and type the correct answer wins the money. Clues are given as time passes, but the money decreases by 5% of the initial starting value with every 1.5 seconds that elapse. The maximum value is $100.
Anagram Questions:
This follows the same rules as the Gibberish Questions; however, instead of trying to figure out a rhyme, players must rearrange the letters given into a saying, name, or other group (as in the famous example of "genuine class" being an anagram of "Alec Guinness"). Unlike the Gibberish Questions that gives you leeway with spelling, the answer to an Anagram Question must be spelled
exactly
right to win the money.
Impossible Questions:
Impossible Questions, known as the Hardest Question of the Game, are worth very large amounts of money, but as the name implies, they are almost always very, very difficult. An example of an Impossible Question is one which asks the players who the winner of the One-Hand Lift in the 1896 Olympic Games was, the number of years between the invention of the can and that of the first practical can opener, or what number the host is currently thinking of. This is either for $200 or for $20,000 in cash.

Total Knock-Out (Round 3):

Same as regular "Knock-Out", only half of the answers are correct and the other half are incorrect, and this time, players are trying to find the least obvious answers. 4 correct answers are each worth $25, 1 is worth $50, and 1 is worth $100.
The game continues until all 6 correct answers are found or until all 3 players are eliminated.

Shopper's Challenge Round (90-second Speed Round):

The "Shopper's Challenge Round" was played after round three. During the round, the host asked a series of rapid-fire multiple-choice questions, related to entertainment and shopping. The round was played for a 90-second time limit, and a correct answer awarded $20, and an incorrect answer costs $20. Like the previous rounds, only one person could answer each question.

The player with the most money at the end of the Shopper's Challenge Round is the Champion and goes to The $ale Of The Century Round.
Runners-up take home 20 times their cash score plus any prizes won from "Instant Bargains" and "Fame Games" (expecting values from between $2000-15000, which is a fair consolation prize).

In the event of a tie, The host will ask another question and the first player to buzz in with the correct answer has $20 added to his/her score and s/he wins, but an incorrect answer subtracts $20 from his/her score and his/her opponent wins.
In the event of a 3 way tie, if a player buzz in and answer incorrectly, the other players play the same tie breaker as before.

The $ale Of The Century Round:

The $ale of the Century Round is based on the Winner's Board from the 80's version.
First, some of the 9 Prizes are shown to The winning contestant. The prizes are as follows:

2 Prizes worth between $1000 to $2000
2 Prizes worth between $3000 to $4000
2 Prizes worth between $5000 to $8000
1 $10,000 Cash Bonus
1 Luxury Trip worth between $12,000 to $20,000
1 CAR or CARS worth between $30,000 to $70,000

Then, a 21-numbered game board appears; there are 7 matching pairs of prizes, 3 Money Bags, and up to 2 WIN cards. This gives the contestant an opportunity to win a prize simply by matching 2 squares on the board. Two "Win" cards were always on the board, and if they were selected at any time the contestant won whatever prize they revealed with their next pick. The car and trip requires a Win card to match. WIN cards were replaced and re-shuffled until the trip and car prizes were won. If the champion finds a Money Bag after a WIN card, the champion gets to pick again.

Once a champion cleared all nine prizes from the Winner's Board, he or she was given the option to retire with 100 times the final score from the last Main Game or play one final game. If the champion chose to play, he or she risked all nine prizes (totaling anywhere between $70,000 and $128,000) against two new competitors in their final match. Winning that match earned the champion the Cash Jackpot of $50,000 (+$2000 each time it's not won) and any Diamond Jackpots earned, as well as 1000 times their final score from the Main Game, but the champion forfeited all of the cash/prizes from the Winner's Board for losing their final match (however, all cash/prizes won from the main games were still theirs to keep). If a player lost a game prior to clearing the board, they kept all prior winnings.

The contestant, however, has an opportunity to win EVERYTHING in one go: Courtesy of the 3 Money Bags.
These 3 Money Bags must be picked FIRST!
If successful by picking the 3 Money Bags in the FIRST THREE PICKS, the champion wins ALL 9 Prizes, DOUBLE the Cash Jackpot, Any Diamond Jackpots won, AND The Mega Jackpot which starts at $1,000,000 (+$200,000 each time it's not won). The contestant could also win everything by picking both WIN cards AND any one 1 Money Bag, within the first 3 picks. If the champion found a Money Bag starting at their SECOND pick, the champion wins $5,000 for each one found.

If the champion is defeated after the Shopper's Challenge Round s/he wins what's left of the bank multiplied by 50 with their final score in cash and any prizes s/he won in "Instant Bargains" and "Fame Games".

NOTE!!!!

To all
players who have been defeated by the champion
, you cannot play again after your match for the next 3 matches, UNLESS the champion is defeated. To the
champion who has been defeated
, you cannot participate for the next 5 matches.

$ALE OF THE CENTURY!

And now, here's the star of our show, dad90!

(dad90 walks out of the door)

dad90: Thank you, Burton Richardson, and welcome to $ale of the Century, where we got a whole lot of cash and prizes to give away, and just in time for the new year of 2015.

Now, we got 3 players ready to go, but first, let's introduce the girl who introduced me to the Anime World for the first time, from
Sailor Moon
, it's Serena Tsukino.

Image

Serena: Hello!

dad90: Yo, Serena. We got 3 challengers today.

Serena: Yes, we do. We have...

Image

StrangerCoug
,
puzzledan
, and
RedCoyote
.

dad90: Thanks, Serena. See you for the Instant Bargains. All right, players, welcome aboard. You are here hopefully to win a lot of cash and prizes, but only one of you will have a chance to do some serious winning.

Now, for those of you who are new to
Sale of the Century
, or for those of you who haven't heard of this before.

A. I don't blame you, and
B. Allow me to explain the gameplay.

Each of our contestants will start off at $20 in their bank...

Image

(ding)

and every question will determine the change of score. For each question they get right, they will receive the amount, but if it's wrong, they lose that amount. Each round will consist of an Instant Bargain, a Special Event, a Specialty Question, and a Fame Game, except for Round 4, which is the Final Round, in which it consists of The Shopper's Challenge Round, in which I'll explain that when we get there.

And after The Shopper's Challenge Round, the player with the lead will become our new champion and will go to The Winner's Board for a chance to either win a prize, or win everything, including the Mega Jackpot, and possibly, any Diamond Jackpots won.

But before we go any further, we need to check the buzzers to see if they're working.

StrangerCoug...

Image

(buzzer)

puzzledan...

Image

(buzzer)

and finally, RedCoyote...

Image

(buzzer)

Image

And, we're ready to go. Now, let's start Round 1 with a 10 x 2 x $5. That's 2 sets of 10 questions, each worth $5.

Look at the questions here, and then give me your answer, with a buzzcode from 1-50 for each one, and 0 to pass.

1. Which former American President, thinking he was 'off-air' at the time said, "My fellow Americans, I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes"?
2. What branch of the British armed forces was formed on 1 April 1918?
3. What food franchise was founded by Harland Sanders?
4. Which volcanic island in the Caribbean has Castries as its capital?
5. Jack Nicholson played what character in 'Batman' in 1989?
6. Who was the shortest player ever to win a slam dunk contest in the 20th century?
7. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, or Division? Which of these four mathematical terms does not fit with the others (and will likely be taught several years later in school than the rest)?
8. Into what body of water does the Rio Grande (between the U.S. and Mexico) flow?
9. We've all heard the phrase 'Hoist with his own petard'. What is a petard?
10. What atomic number is assigned to Beryllium on the Periodic Table of Elements?

Go ahead and PM me your answers and buzzcodes now.

All right, everyone's locked in, and here we go.

Which former American President, thinking he was 'off-air' at the time said, "My fellow Americans, I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes"?

Image

(buzzer)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Ronald Reagan.

That's the one, and that puts your score up to $25.

Image

(ding)

What branch of the British armed forces was formed on 1 April 1918?

Image

(buzzer)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
The Royal Air Force.

Correct to bring you up to $25.

Image

(ding)

What food franchise was founded by Harland Sanders?

Image

(buzzer)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
KFC.

Known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, that is correct, which puts you up to $30.

Image

(ding)

Which volcanic island in the Caribbean has Castries as its capital?

Image

(buzzer)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Haiti.

(buzz)

No, it's actually St. Lucia, and that will cost you $5, dropping you back to $25.

Image

Jack Nicholson played what character in 'Batman' in 1989?

Image

(buzzer)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
The Joker.

Still one of the best Joker characters I've seen in the Batman movies. Correct for another $5, which puts you into the lead at $30.

Image

(ding)

Who was the shortest player ever to win a slam dunk contest in the 20th century?

Image

(buzzer)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Dennis Rodman.

(buzz)

Dennis Rodman? I think you need to go shorter than that. We're looking for Spud Webb. Spud Webb was only 5' 6' tall. He won the competition as a Hawk. For that incorrect answer, you go down to $20.

Image

Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, or Division? Which of these four mathematical terms does not fit with the others (and will likely be taught several years later in school than the rest)?

Image

(buzzer)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Division.

That is correct to bring you back up to $25.

Image

(ding)

Into what body of water does the Rio Grande (between the U.S. and Mexico) flow?

Image

(buzzer)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
The Gulf of Mexico.

Where the Rio Grande covers the entire bottom portion of Texas and defines its border with Mexico, that's where the Gulf of Mexico is for another $5.

Image

(ding)

We've all heard the phrase 'Hoist with his own petard'. What is a petard?

Image

(buzzer)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
A bucket full of gunpowder if I remember TV Tropes correctly....

We may need to go the judges for that one. Do we accept that?

Judge: Image

(buzz)

Looks like that's a no from him. The answer we're looking for is a Small Explosive, and here's why. Derived from the French word 'peter' which means 'to break wind', a petard was used to blow up bridges, castle walls, etc. So, basically, it's a Bomb. That also means you lose $5 for that. Sorry about that.

Image

What atomic number is assigned to Beryllium on the Periodic Table of Elements?

Image

(buzzer)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
4.

That is correct, no doubt about that. Got the $5 back.

Image

(ding)

(audience applause)

All right, some bumps in the road, but it's early in the game, so don't worry about it.

(Instant Bargain Time!)

And that sound means it's now time for an Instant Bargain, to where the player in the lead at this point has a chance to buy Bargain Merchandise.

StrangerCoug, you have a $9 lead. Let's see if you want to buy this.

Image

$1,300

but tonight on $ale of the Century, it could be yours for only...

$5

(audience applause)

DK: Well, StrangerCoug, that's something very useful at this time of the year. $1,300 of Winter Gear, yours with the value of 1 question.

And, if you buy the Winter Gear, I'll throw in an extra

Alright, so it's
No Sale
. Sounds reasonable.

All right, now it's time for the Knock-Out round.

Image

Now, here's how this works players. I'm going to show you a list of 12 answers. And those answers are...

Pit BullHuskyChow ChowRottweiler
Doberman PinscherMalamuteGerman ShepherdSt. Bernard
Great DaneBullmastifCane CorsoWolf-Dog Hybrid

So, as you can see, these are different
breeds of dogs.

Now, I have a question for all 3 of you, and it goes as follows:

The American Veterinary Medical Association conducted a twenty year study on the most dangerous dog breeds. According to a 2013 statistics poll, what are the top 9 breeds of dogs based on the amount of fatalities they have caused?

In a moment, we'll take turns, no buzzing in this time, and one at a time, you'll pick an answer. If it's one of top 9 answers on the board, you'll earn money.

Be careful, though. 3 of these didn't make it to the top 9, and those are...

Image

Knock-Outs
. Find one of those, and you'll out for the rest of this round, but you do get to keep the money you have earned.

Now, RedCoyote, since you're in last place, I'm going to let you pick an answer first. Pick one that you think which breed of dog is part of the top 9.

Going for Pit Bull.

$15
HuskyChow ChowRottweiler
Doberman PinscherMalamuteGerman ShepherdSt. Bernard
Great DaneBullmastifCane CorsoWolf-Dog Hybrid

Obviously, the #1 answer for $15.

Image

The Pit Bull stood far ahead of all the other breeds with 66 fatalities attributed to it. Known for their extremely aggressive nature, many states have legislation banning the breeding of pit bulls.

Let's see if Rottweiler's one.

$15
HuskyChow Chow
$10
Doberman PinscherMalamuteGerman ShepherdSt. Bernard
Great DaneBullmastifCane CorsoWolf-Dog Hybrid

That's the #2 answer for $10.

Image

The Rottweiler was responsible for 39 fatalities in this study. Their temperament is usually passive and attentive, but are known to be prone to aggressive outburst. Rottweilers are more dangerous because of their owners. They’re perceived as guard dogs and are treated in a more aggressive nature than most dogs.

$15

$10
Doberman PinscherMalamute
$5
St. Bernard
Great DaneBullmastifCane CorsoWolf-Dog Hybrid

It is for the #3 answer at $5.

Image

With 17 fatalities attributed to them, they are the third most dangerous dog breeds. This is certainly attributed to their line of work as guard and police dogs.. They’re more likely to get into dangerous situations than other dogs.

Going for the Wolf-Dog Hybrid in which I've never heard of one before until now. Let's see it.

$15
HuskyChow Chow
$10
Doberman PinscherMalamute
$5
St. Bernard
Great DaneBullmastifCane Corso
$5

That's the #5 answer at $5.

Image

This one is no surprise as half of this dog is wolf. Even with proper crossbreeding, domestication, and training Wolf-dog hybrids maintain much of the prey drive of their wolf genetics making them quite dangerous to keep as pets. If they’re domesticated clearly there’s less risk but their nature alone can eventually take effect in which case there’s not much an owner can do, in which they caused 13 fatalities thus far.

The St. Bernard. I don't know, they almost look harmless, so let's see St. Bernard.

$15
HuskyChow Chow
$10
Doberman PinscherMalamute
$5
Image
Great DaneImageCane Corso
$5

No, that's Knock-Out #2! That means you're out of this round, StrangerCoug.

Image

Get this. Seven fatalities so it’s not like this breed is terribly dangerous. The real reason for their potential danger is their sheer size. St. Bernards are actually pretty lovable and affectionate dogs. So often times they may end up harming someone or something just by bumping into them and getting a little too playful.

So, they're technically harmless. RedCoyote, you know what that means. You're the only one left. There are 5 good answers and 1 Knock-Out remaining. Pick one.

In this round, you can keep going until you hit a Knock-Out. You have nothing to lose....for now.

In the meantime, let's look at the Doberman Pinscher

$15
HuskyChow Chow
$10
$3
Malamute
$5
Image
Great DaneImageCane Corso
$5

That's the #7 for $3!

Image

Known to be one of the most aggressive breed of dogs ever, the Doberman Pinscher was one of the most recognizable dog breeds as they were used extensively as guard dogs. Dobermans accounted for 9 fatalities in the study but most deaths were caused in defense of their owners.

Keep going, RedCoyote. Pick another answer.

Let's see if Husky is one of them.

$15
$5
Chow Chow
$10
$3
Malamute
$5
Image
Great DaneImageCane Corso
$5

That's the #4 answer for $5!

Image

With a total of 15 fatalities linked to Huskies in the study conducted, they are definitely known to be aggressive, but this has been linked to poor training/obedience issues as Huskies rate as one of the most intelligent canines in the world. We totally recommend getting one as these stats are just unlucky.

3 good answers and 1 Knock-Out left, RedCoyote. Pick another answer.

Going for the Great Dane, in which Scooby-Doo is one of them. Let's see it!

$15
$5
Chow Chow
$10
$3
Malamute
$5
Image
$2
ImageCane Corso
$5

The very bottom, but good enough for $2!

Image

A dog with eight fatalities so again, not dangerous. The Great Dane, like the St. Bernard can be troublesome because of its sheer size. These are some big dogs but if groomed and trained properly will be great pets. Just be careful with Great Danes because they require a ton of care so know what you’re getting into.

2 good answers to go, RedCoyote. Pick another answer.

That's the #6 answer for $3!

To those who want to know what a Malamute is, this is it.

This breed was responsible for 12 fatalities an is another case of a large dog causing unintended harm. Families with children need to be careful if purchasing a malamute.

Let's if Cane Corso is the last remaining good answer.

$15
$5
Chow Chow
$10
$3
$3
$5
Image
$2
ImageImage
$5

And no! That's the one remaining Knock-Out!

Image

Let's quickly look at Chow Chow to let you know that...

$15
$5
$2
$10
$3
$3
$5
Image
$2
ImageImage
$5

...it was indeed part of the Top 9. #8, to be exact.

While the Cane Corso only made 3 fatalities, the Chow Chow made 8, according to the study. The Chow Chow does have an aggressive personality, especially around strangers and other pets. Again however, this has to do with ownership and not always a genetic problem of the dog. So as long as they are treated well you shouldn’t have issues.

All right, let's get back to the questions.

What word means to move upwards or forwards, a place where water dwells up from an underground source, and an elastic or metal spiral coil?

Image

(buzz-in)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Spring
.

From the Old English word 'springan' and the Middle English word 'springen,' Spring is correct to put you up to $51.

Image

(ding)

"It's a boy, Mrs. ________, it's a boy" is a familiar line from The Who's 1969 rock opera, Tommy. What is the boy's family name?

Image

(buzz-in)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Brown
.

Wrong!

(buzzer)

The correct answer is Walker.

The double album "Tommy" was the first piece of music to be dubbed a "rock opera". It's the story of Tommy Walker, who's born just after his father is reported missing in the war. His dad returns home four years later only to discover that Mrs. Walker is with another man. At this point Mr. Walker kills the "other man" (this is reversed in the movie, believe it or not!) while Tommy watches, causing Tommy great emotional distress. Tommy takes solace in playing pinball, at which he is so good that he eventually rises to the status of pop culture icon with a huge cult following.

And that incorrect answer drops you down to $37.

Image

Americans call it Thumbtack. British call it...?

Image

(buzz-in)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
A pushpin
?

A pushpin, or a drawing pin. Either way, it's correct to bring you up to $56.

Image

(ding)

The California freshwater shrimp is known to live in which stream or river?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

No one buzzed in on that. Well, the answer we're looking for is a Blucher Creek.

Blucher Creek is one of fewer than ten streams that host the California Freshwater Shrimp. The shrimp are extremely rare, and are on the endangered species list. The Nile, Brahmaputra, and Mei Rivers could not host the species, as they are, respectively, located in Egypt, India, and China. There is a reason that it is called the California freshwater shrimp!

Let's move on to the next question.

John Schneider is best known for his role of Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard". He was also on another TV series. Can you name it?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

No one buzzed in on that either. Let's see if this came to your mind, as the correct answer was Smallville.

John played the part of Jonathan Kent, Clark Kent's adoptive father. He was in 100 episodes before being killed off.

Moving to another question.

The Czech Republic's motto is "Pravda vítez", which means what?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

Looks like our producers are doing a good job at stumping these players. The correct answer on this one is "Truth Prevails".

The Czech Republic became independent January 1, 1993. It used to be joined with Slovakia to make the former country of Czechoslovakia. The official language of the Czech Republic is Czech, which is similar to Slovak, and to a lesser extent, Polish.

Let's see if our players can buzz in on this next question.

I just got a deerstalker for my birthday; what do I do with it?

Image

(buzz-in)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Hunt
.

You may think so, but no.

(buzzer)

If I had a deerstalker for my birthday, I would wear it.

A deerstalker is a traditional hat, usually made of a plaid fabric. It was often worn by deer hunters in the 19th century.

And that wrong answer drops you down to $56, which means now we have a tie for 1st place between StrangerCoug and RedCoyote.

Image

Let's see who breaks the tie...

What company, formerly called Integrated Electronics, is the world's largest semiconductor chip manufacturer?

Image

(buzz-in)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Texas Instruments
.

Wrong!

(buzzer)

You were WAY off on that one. We're looking for Intel.

The founders of Intel, Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce, originally used the name NM Electronics based on the initials of their last names. They used this name for almost a year prior to deciding to change it to Integrated Electronics and then Intel for short. A hotel chain already owned the name Intel, however, so Moore and Noyce had to buy the rights to the name before they could use it.

That wrong answer puts RedCoyote back into the lead.

Image

Which university could lay claim to producing the winners of all three Olympic women's 100m track gold medals in the 1960s?

Image

(buzz-in)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Harvard
.

Wrong!

(buzzer)

You were on the right track, though. However, you need to jump a few states to get to Tennessee State University, because that was the correct answer.

Both the spectacular Wilma Rudolph (1960) and Wyomia Tyus (1964/8) belonged to the legendary Tennessee Tigerbelles track team. Tyus was the first person to successfully defend an Olympic 100m title. The Tigerbelles also provided the entire 1960 gold medal winning 4 x 100m relay squad as well as the 1964 silver medallist, Edith McGuire. McGuire won a gold medal in the 1964 Olympic 200m.

Another wrong answer, another $5 lost.

Image

In which movie does Jeremy Irons say, "Fort Knox....ha!....is for tourists!" in a thick German accent, while robbing the Federal Reserve Bank of New York?

Image

(buzz-in)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Die Hard 3: With a Vengeance
.

There we go. That's the one we're looking for which puts you back up to $61.

Image

(ding)

Some tough questions there, but the game is still young.

(Fame Game time!)

And now, it's time for the Fame Game players!

Here's how this works. This one is a First-Come, first-served basis. No buzzcodes needed for this type of question.

Now in the Fame Game, I'm going to be giving you a list of clues that leads to a famous person, place, or thing. As soon as you know what I'm talking about, buzz in by placing your answer on the next post. There's no money penalty for wrong answers, but you will be sitting down throughout the remainder of the question. Correct answer here will earn a pick at the Fame Game board.

I'll be posting clues every 8 hours to give our players some time to think about and then post an answer here.

For the first Fame Game, we're looking for a famous thing.

I am an animated television series for cable. I follow the adventures of a human boy and his best friend and adoptive brother, a dog with magical powers to change shape and grow and shrink at will.

The next set of clues will come up 8 hours from now. If you think you know what the answer is, post your answer after this post. First-come, first-served.

After the short became a viral hit on the Internet, I was picked up for a full-length series that officially premiered in April 2010. Since then, I have received positive reviews from critics and have developed a strong following among children, teenagers, and adults alike for my "silly humor, imaginative stories, and richly populated world".

And that's the last set of clues I've given you. You now have 24 hours to place all of these together and buzz in here at the forum when you know it.

It's

. So that means, no one gets a pick at the Fame Game board, but there are still two more chances left to go.

Image

But now, we've just finished Round 1, with the scores of $51 for StrangerCoug, $32 for puzzledan, and with $61, RedCoyote is in the lead, but I wouldn't feel too confident if I were you, RedCoyote, because when we come back from this commercial break, question values are going up, and there will be more cash and prizes up for grabs in Round 2 of

And welcome back to $ale of The Century, and I'm so glad that you're still with us, and we've got an exciting second round coming up, but let's recap the scores first of all.

StrangerCoug has $51, puzzledan has $32, and RedCoyote has $61. However, the scores are going to change even more, because in this round, regular questions are now worth $10 each. In fact, this is a 6 x 2 x $10 round. Meaning there are 2 sets of 6 questions, each worth $10.

We also got some special events coming up in this round as well, so let's get started by giving you the questions.

1. What famous highway has a branch that runs from Chicago all the way to Miami?
2. How do you spell a word meaning 'to express pleasure at someone's good luck or good fortune'?
3. You just got off the plane at Auckland Airport. One of the locals smiles at you and says, "Kia Ora!" What did she mean by that?
4. The alcoholic version of this drink contains tomato juice, vodka, horseradish and Worcestershire sauce, garnished with a stalk of celery. What is the name of the NON alcoholic version?
5. Moby Dick. Back to American literature - this time a novel -the White Whale calls forth images of pursuit and obsession. Who was the captain in pursuit?
6. For the fashionable Victorian lady in 1870-1880's, where was the bustle?

All right, here we go with the questions.

What famous highway has a branch that runs from Chicago all the way to Miami?

Image

(Buzz In)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Route 66.

Believe it or not, you're wrong.

(buzzer)

I kid you not. The correct answer is the Dixie Highway. The Dixie Highway actually has two branches, the Eastern branch and Western Branch. The Eastern branch originates in Chicago and the Western branch originates in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Both branches meet in Indianapolis, Chattanooga, Atlanta and Miami. The Eastern branch of Dixie Highway runs through Louisville, KY.

That's a $10 loss for an incorrect answer.

Image

How do you spell a word meaning 'to express pleasure at someone's good luck or good fortune'?

Image

(Buzz In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Schadenfreude.

Wrong!

(buzzer)

Schadenfreude is pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. You went the wrong way. We're looking for an easier word: Congratulate.

You lose $10 for that.

Image

You just got off the plane at Auckland Airport. One of the locals smiles at you and says, "Kia Ora!" What did she mean by that?

Image

(Buzz In)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Welcome.

Hi or Hello is the answer, but Welcome is acceptable as well, so you get the $10 back.

Image

(ding)

The alcoholic version of this drink contains tomato juice, vodka, horseradish and Worcestershire sauce, garnished with a stalk of celery. What is the name of the NON alcoholic version?

Image

(Buzz In)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Virgin Bloody Mary.

The Virgin Mary, kin to the Bloody Mary, has all the same ingredients except the vodka. Correct for $10.

Image

(ding)

Moby Dick. Back to American literature - this time a novel -the White Whale calls forth images of pursuit and obsession. Who was the captain in pursuit?

Image

(Buzz In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Ishmael.

Wrong character!

(buzzer)

Ishmael is the narrator of the story. Captain Ahab is the one in pursuit of Moby Dick. Which means we have to dock $10 off of your score.

Image

For the fashionable Victorian lady in 1870-1880's, where was the bustle?

Image

(Buzz In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
On her waist.

It's into the skirt rear and below the waist, but the judges are lenient enough to give you that for another $10, because you are right around that area.

Image

(ding)

And if you think "Baby Got Back" is the first time it was stylish to have a large derriere, you are wrong. The Victorians briefly had the same fascination. At its maximum size, the bustle consisted of a straw filled cushion sewn into the rear of the skirt, with a series of steel half hoops inserted in the skirt-lining down to the ground. This was bulky and heavy and had the effect of throwing the skirt out almost horizontally from waist-level in the back. Women appeared to have the cloth-encased hind legs of a horse. By the 1890's (thank goodness) fashion had moved on.

Well, it's Instant Bargain time, and this time RedCoyote has the lead. A $30 lead, to be exact. Can we interest you in buying this?

(audience applause)

DK: Ah, a nice treadmill. Certainly a one-of-a-kind. RedCoyote, this is a good prize, in my opinion. And also, consider this. Even if you buy this for $14, you'll still have a $16 lead over StrangerCoug, which is less than the value of 2 questions.

And, if you buy this treadmill, I'll throw in an extra
$850
in cash.

What do you say?

Count your money later RedCoyote, because right now, it's time for your fantasies to be realized. You 3 players are joining a
ThreeWay.

Image

Image

OK, players. Here's how this Specialty Question works. You are going to see a ThreeWay like this one:

  • Game

    Set

    Match

Game Show: "_____ Game"

When you know what answer it is from the 3 words, buzz in and give me the word. The buzz-in will come in a first-come, first-served basis; no buzzcodes.

If it's the right match...

  • Game

    Set

    Match

You'll score $10.

Fix a Broken Bone

But watch out, because if you are wrong...

  • Game

    Set

    Match

You'll lose $10...

  • Game

    Set

    Match

EVERY time you're wrong!

And be careful: Individual answers don't necessarily have anything to do with the ThreeWay as a group.

(Fame Game time!)

And once again, it's time for the Fame Game.

In the first round, you all got stumped, but let's see if you can get this one right, because in addition to the $5 and the $10 Money Cards on the Fame Game board, we've added a $15 Money Card for this Fame Game.

Again, this is a First-Come, first-served basis question.

I'll be posting clues every 8 hours to give our players some time to think about and then post an answer here.

For the second Fame Game, we're looking for a famous person.

I was born to Jewish Galician parents in the Moravian town of Příbor in 1856. I proved an outstanding pupil and graduated from the Matura in 1873 with honors.

The next set of clues will come up 8 hours from now. If you think you know what the answer is, post your answer after this post. First-come, first-served.

I entered the University of Vienna at age 17 and had planned to study law, but joined the medical faculty at the university instead. I spent four weeks at a zoological research station in Trieste, dissecting hundreds of eels in an inconclusive search for their male reproductive organs and graduated with an MD in 1881.

The next set of clues will come up 8 hours from now. If you think you know what the answer is, post your answer after this post. First-come, first-served.

This is not

You are on your own.

However, I got this next set of clues to help you.

My research work in cerebral anatomy led to the publication of a seminal paper on the palliative effects of cocaine in 1884 and my work on aphasia would form the basis of my first book. In 1886 I resigned his hospital post and entered private practice specializing in "nervous disorders".

The last set of clues will come up in 8 hours. Post your answer here if you think you know it.

a digital vaporizer!

(audience applause)

From Storz & Bickel, this Volcano vaporizer, which can be used to heat up herbs and spices into a vapor, is one of the most advanced, easy to use, efficient vaporizers around.

DK: And that is valued at $550, RedCoyote, and that prize is yours to keep, no matter what happens.

Now, let's get back to the questions.

1. Which leading lady starred opposite Australian Actor Errol Flynn many times between 1935 and 1943?
2. What was the #2 hit for the year 1969?
"When the moon is in the Seventh House,
And Jupiter aligns with Mars,
Then peace will guide the planets,
And love will steer the stars.
This is the dawning of the Age of ___________."
3. Hal Greer, Jerry West, Bill Russell, or Wilt Chamberlain? Out of these 4, which of the following has the most championship rings as a player?
4. We're in an Arizona city dubbed "The Town Too Tough to Die". It has a newspaper called "Epitaph" and its name is synonymous with gunfights and the Old West. Where are we?
5. What 1997 animated film told the story of the last Romanov Princess of Russia, who miraculously survived an attack that killed her whole family?
6. Cocaine, Methadone, Codeine, or Paracetamol? Out of these 4, which of the following drugs is commonly used to treat heroin addiction?

PM me your buzzcodes 1-50, along with your answers for each one. If you don't know, simply say "Pass".

OK, here we go.

Which leading lady starred opposite Australian Actor Errol Flynn many times between 1935 and 1943?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

I wouldn't be surprised if anyone didn't buzz in. The one we're looking for is Olivia de Havilland.

Perhaps Errol's best-remembered role was as the loveable rogue of Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood, in "The Adventures of Robin Hood". Errol teamed up with Olivia de Havilland as he also did in 1938 in "Four's A Crowd". The other eight films they starred opposite each other in were: "Captain Blood" in 1935. "The Charge of the Light Brigade" in 1936, "The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex" and "Dodge City" in 1939, "Santa Fe Trail" in 1940, "They Died with Their Boots On" in 1941, plus "Show Business at War" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars" in 1943.

No harm, no foul on that. Here's the next question.

What was the #2 hit for the year 1969?

"When the moon is in the Seventh House,
And Jupiter aligns with Mars,
Then peace will guide the planets,
And love will steer the stars.
This is the dawning of the Age of ___________."

Image

(Buzz-In)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Aquarius.

Aquarius or Let the Sun Shine In is good enough to bring you up to $117.

Image

(ding)

Hal Greer, Jerry West, Bill Russell, or Wilt Chamberlain? Out of these 4, which of the following has the most championship rings as a player?

Image

(Buzz-In)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Bill Russell.

With 11 championship rings from the Boston Celtics, Bill Russell is correct for another $10.

Image

(ding)

We're in an Arizona city dubbed "The Town Too Tough to Die". It has a newspaper called "Epitaph" and its name is synonymous with gunfights and the Old West. Where are we?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Tombstone.

One of the wealthiest and most lawless towns in the American West, Tombstone is correct to bring you up to $61.

Image

(ding)

What 1997 animated film told the story of the last Romanov Princess of Russia, who miraculously survived an attack that killed her whole family?

Image

(Buzz-In)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Anastasia.

Is right for another $10.

Image

(ding)

Cocaine, Methadone, Codeine, or Paracetamol? Out of these 4, which of the following drugs is commonly used to treat heroin addiction?

Image

(Buzz-In)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Codeine.

Actually, no.

(buzzer)

The drug were looking for is Methadone.

You see, Methadone is a synthetic drug which is an analgesic (pain-killer), similar to morphine, and commonly used to wean addicts from heroin. It was developed in Germany just before World War II. One of the brand names is Dolophine which has given rise to the myth that it was named after, or by, Adolf Hitler. However, the name is derived from the Latin word "dolor" which means 'pain'.

And an incorrect answer will cost you $10, puzzledan.

(Instant Bargain time!)

All right, it's time now for another Instant Bargain, and this time, it's the
Devil's Temptation Box.

Image

RedCoyote, you are in the lead, and what I have here to my left is the Devil's Temptation Box. What that means is if you have nerve to open this box up for...

$15

Now, there's a possibility that you may hear the losing horns from a particular game show...

(Sorry!)

or you may win a Prize that is valued between $3,000 to $7,000...

or you may find this slot machine called...

Image

where you could win one of these Diamond Jackpots, which have been determined by our third-party randomizer...

Red Diamond =
Mega Jackpot ($8,236,826)

Blue Diamond =
Maxi Jackpot ($442,348)

Green Diamond =
Major Jackpot ($267,697)

White Diamond =
Minor Jackpot ($98,213)

Of course, the box will contain only one of these 3 possibilities, and it's all for only $15.

Which means you'll still have a $61 lead over StrangerCoug, should you decide to go for it.

So, what are you going to do?

All right, now we're about to end Round 2, but not before we do a Sprint Round!

Image

SPRINT ROUND PAYOUTS:

Correct Answer:
+$7

Incorrect Answer:
-$7

In this Sprint Round, I'll be asking you General-Knowledge Questions rapid-fire for the next 30 seconds, and if you give me a correct answer, I'll add $7 to your bank, but if you give an incorrect answer, and you'll lose $7.

Now, each of you PM me your answers along with your buzzcodes 1-25 now, with 0 being pass, and as soon as 48 hours pass from the moment this post has been made, the Sprint Round will start.

Here are the questions.

1. What holiday is known as the Feast of Feasts?
2. What was the name of the poodle that John Steinbeck toured the country with in 1960?
3. What is the Society of Friends, or Friends of the Truth, more commonly known as?
4. In what year did the eruption of Mount St. Helens occur?
5. What Marx Brothers film was also the title of a Queen album?
6. At the end of the 20th century, what was the approximate population of the United States of America?
7. Fish travel in schools. What do dolphins travel in?
8. Our cars, trucks and other vehicles most often run on something we call 'gasoline'. With a perfectly working vehicle (that is, one that is properly tuned) which of these compound pairs make up two of the end products of the expended gasoline?

I think I've given enough time, so let's put 30 seconds on the clock.

Image

And let's finish Round 2 as we start the Sprint Round...NOW!

What holiday is known as the Feast of Feasts?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug: Thanksgiving.

Wrong!

Image

What was the name of the poodle that John Steinbeck toured the country with in 1960?

Image

(time passes before Judge says Time)

Time!

Image

What is the Society of Friends, or Friends of the Truth, more commonly known as?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
The Amish.

Wrong!

Image

In what year did the eruption of Mount St. Helens occur?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
1980.

Correct.

Image

What Marx Brothers film was also the title of a Queen album?

Image

(Buzz-In)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
Duck Soup.

Wrong!

Image

At the end of the 20th century, what was the approximate population of the United States of America?

Image

(Time's Up!)

Time's up, and I cannot accept an answer.

Boy, that was a tough one. Let's take a look at the ones that you missed.

The Feast of Feasts is actually known as
Easter.

The name of the poodle that John Steinbeck toured the country with in 1960 was
Charley.

Image

Not
that
Charlie.

Image

Anyways, he based his 1962 book, 'Travels with Charley in Search of America.'

The Society of Friends, or Friends of the Truth, are known as the
Quakers.
The Religious Society of Friends began in England in the 1650s. One of its founders was George Fox who advised the Friends to "tremble at the Word of the Lord", giving rise to the nickname "Quaker", which was originally a term of ridicule.

The Marx Brothers film which also has the title of a Queen album is called
A Day At The Races.
The film was from 1937, the album was released in 1976.

And the question that we didn't get on time was "At the end of the 20th century, what was the approximate population of the United States of America?"

The answer would have been
300 Million
.

And at the end of Round 2, we have StrangerCoug at $54, puzzledan at $32, and RedCoyote still in the lead at $115.

However, in Round 3, scores CAN flip-flop, especially with the Total Knock-Out round coming up, so puzzledan can take the lead in the blink of an eye, so it's certainly anyone's game, so please come right back for the exciting 3rd Round on
$ale of The Century.

DK: And welcome back! Now, it's time to REALLY have some fun, because this is our third round, where scores can change dramatically, as we now head into our 5 x 2 x $15 round. That's 2 sets of 5 questions, each worth $15, and at the end of the second set of questions, there's a Special Bonus Question for an additional $50. A whole lot of things can happen, so it's still anybody's game.

Now, here we go with the questions.

1. What two colors is a magpie?
2. What nation hosts the 124-mile Elfstedtocht, the longest annual ice skating race in the world?
3. What fraction of the cardinals voting, plus one, is needed to elect a new pope?

OK, here we go.

What two colors is a magpie?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Black and White?

Black and White is right for $15!

Image

(Ding)

What nation hosts the 124-mile Elfstedtocht, the longest annual ice skating race in the world?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Switzerland.

Close, but no.

(Buzzer)

It's in the Netherlands, and that will cost you $15.

Image

What fraction of the cardinals voting, plus one, is needed to elect a new pope?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
3/4.

Wrong again!

(Buzzer)

If 2/3 cannot be reached, then 1/2 + 1 is needed. 1/2 was the correct answer, and that will take you down even further to $39.

Image

What former Saturday Night Live regular was recently announced to take over for the late Don Pardo as announcer?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Johnny Carson

Nope!

(Buzzer)

It's actually Darrell Hammond, and that costs you another $15, bringing you down to $24.

Image

Whose last role before running for office was as a villain in the 1964 movie
The Killers
?

Image

(Buzz-In)

StrangerCoug.

StrangerCoug:
Ronald Reagan.

There you go! Reagan is right to bring you back up to $39.

(Instant Ca$h time!)

Oh! And now it's time for Instant Ca$h! RedCoyote, you have a BIG lead, but that score will change DRAMATICALLY should you decide to go for it, and here's why...

Image

Image

There are 3 boxes, as you can see. Two of them each have $100, but the third contains a big cash prize worth...

$5,000

$5,000!

(audience cheers and applause)

Now, RedCoyote, you have a $76 lead. Should you decide to go for the Instant Ca$h, you have to give up
your entire lead
. In other words, you have to pay $76 to go for $5,000.

What are you going to do?

(RedCoyote buzzes in)

He's going for it!

(audience gasps and applause)

Wow! That's some nerves of steel you got there! Let's wipe off $76 from his score...

Image

And Serena is going to give you Box #3, and I can only wish you the best of luck.

What does Box #3 contain?

Image

$100

Oh! Only $100.

(audience groans)

But you know what? You took the chance in which many people won't do, and that deserves a round of applause.

(audience cheers and applause)

Yeah, let's see the box that hid the $5,000....

Box 1: $5,000
Box 2: $100

It was at Box #1, which means next time, the Instant Ca$h Bonus goes up to $6,000.

Now, let's get back to the questions. Oh, and don't forget that this one has a BONUS question for an extra $50.

1. What was dubbed the "Boston game", as played by Harvard teams starting in 1869?
2. In what 20th century decade did AT&T first introduce 800 numbers?
3. What
Melrose Place
"Special Guest Star" actually remained with the show for the remaining six seasons?
4. "Don't cry for me, Argentina...." Just tell me what the capital of that country is.
5. In what Disney film would you find a town named Passamaquoddy?
BONUS: Complete this verse of a classic TV theme song.

OK, here we go.

What was dubbed the "Boston game", as played by Harvard teams starting in 1869?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

The answer would have been the simple but popular sport of Football. Let's move on to the next question.

In what 20th century decade did AT&T first introduce 800 numbers?

Image

(RedCoyote buzzes in)

RedCoyote.

RedCoyote:
The 1960s.

Yes, it's the 60s for an additional $15.

Image

(ding)

What
Melrose Place
"Special Guest Star" actually remained with the show for the remaining six seasons?

(time passes)

(buzzer)

The one we're looking for is Heather Locklear, who played as Amanda. We got 2 more questions left before the Bonus Question.

"Don't cry for me, Argentina...." Just tell me what the capital of that country is.

Image

(puzzledan buzzes in)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Buenos Aires.

Es correcto por quince dolares Americanos.

English Translation: That is correct for $15.

Image

(ding)

In what Disney film would you find a town named Passamaquoddy?

Image

(puzzledan buzzes in)

puzzledan.

puzzledan:
Mulan.

Way Off!

(buzzer)

You have to go back to the 70s for that one. The answer is Pete's Dragon.

Now, to those of you who haven't heard of it, A. I don't blame you, and B. Let me explain.
Pete's Dragon is the charming 1977 Disney musical about an orphan boy named Pete (Sean Marshall) and his best friend, a dragon named Elliott. Well, do you remember why Pete’s best friend is a dragon? It’s because Pete is a
runaway
orphan, and he is running away from his adopted family: The Gogans. They
really
want Pete back, and so they sing about it, including how much they miss him. In the very first song of the movie — before we ever see Elliott, in fact — the Gogans cheerily sing about what they are going to do to Pete when they find him. But really, singing about abusing Pete is a Gogan family tradition. Pete is
their
slave. Who they paid for, including legal fees.

Recap so far: This is a Disney musical about a young boy who is the runaway slave of a terrifying family that embodies the worst hillbilly stereotypes.

Also, they hunt for him by saying his name in the most creepy way imaginable. Just in case Pete’s status as a slave was unclear, Pete himself underlines his predicament to Nora, the kind custodian of a Maine lighthouse who takes Pete in. Nora, by the way, is first seen dancing on a bar surrounded by the drinking buddies of her father, so, you know, it’s not like she’s exactly the most stable person either. Much better than the Gogans, at least. When it comes to Pete, however, the other citizens of the quiet seaside town of Passamaquoddy aren’t much better than the Gogans. The local schoolteacher even raps Pete’s knuckles for “lying” about his dragon Elliott, in which he is not amused.

The only adults in town who take Pete seriously, in fact, are Dr. Terminus and his assistant Hoagy, charlatans peddling bogus cures for a multitude of ailments and injuries. So, just to be clear about this, Dr. Terminus is a greedy, greedy monster And he sees great opportunity in Elliott. So he sings about mutilating Elliott in a playful, upbeat number called “Every Little Piece.”

First, they try to buy Elliott from Pete — and they try to sweeten the deal with maybe the ickiest line ever spoken in a Disney musical. And then the Gogans return, finally catching up with Pete. Nora, bless her heart, tells them they can’t have Pete — sparking the maybe the ickiest
series
of lines ever spoken in a Disney musical.

And then the Gogans break into a song called “Bill of Sale” — as in, the receipt for their purchase of Pete. As in, the evidence that they own a slave. The music is, once again, relentlessly upbeat and tuneful. The lyrics
are not
. Nora’s defense of Pete is forthright and stirring and somehow also utterly unsettling. Eventually, Dr. Terminus strikes a deal with the Gogans to use Pete as bait to trap Elliott, and they all succeed in tricking Pete into their clutches. Their plan succeeds. Because eventually, Elliott escapes. And goes after the Gogans. Rescues Pete. And burns their “bill of sale.” At this point, Pete’s wildly questionable status as a slave is finally resolved, and the rest of the film unfolds with Elliott saving the day several times over before leaving Pete to go save another troubled (possibly enslaved) kid.

Before all that happens, however, Elliott reserves one final, pointed humiliation for the Gogans. He scares Ma Gogan into falling into a vat of tar, which subsequently coats the rest of her family as they try to get her out of it. Naturally, Pete and Elliott find the inherent cultural irony of his former slavers
covered in black tar
to be hysterical, because they are hip to winking meta-cultural symbolism embedded within Disney movie musicals.

Dr. Terminus also ends up, er, hanging from a rope, but let’s not read too much into that one, shall we?

And that's the long and short of Pete's Dragon. All of that for a $15 loss, puzzledan.

Image

And now, it's time for the Bonus Question in which this one is worth $50. Wrong answer costs $20.

BONUS: Complete this verse of a classic TV theme song.

He just keeps on movin',
Ladies keep improvin'
Every day is better than the last.
New dreams and better scenes,

(time passes)

(buzzer)

Yeah, many people don't know this one, and for good reason as this is also from the 1970s. Here's the rest of the verse.

And best of all, I don't pay property tax.

This song was from
BJ and the Bear
, a 70s classic. But here's my problem...

Image

If the title is BJ and the Bear, why is he holding a
Monkey?!!?!?!?!!?
I don't see ANY BEARS here!

Uh-oh! West truck nits nymore! (English: Uh-oh! Guess what it's time for!)

Serena:
And now, it's time for a...

Image

Audience: TICKLISH TESTGUM!

(gong sounds as letter begin to reshuffle)

Image

DK: That's right! It's time for a "Gibberish Question". Here's how that works. I'm going to show a "mondegreen", a nonsensical phrase that rhymes with a more common phrase or title. For example...

"Pre-empt Tires, Like Crack"

could be the gibberish to
The Empire Strikes Back.

Now, first of all, what's the category for this Gibberish Question?

Things Are Getting Hairy

It's Things Are Getting Hairy. And the opening value for this Gibberish Question is...

$100

$100.

However, there's a problem. The problem is you have 30 seconds (aka 30 hours) to figure out the answer, and for every 1.5 seconds, some cash will be deducted. So, long story short, the less time you take, the money you'll make.

Now, when you think you know it, buzz in and tell me what cliche does this rhyme with?

Let her chafe, Mankari.

And don't let the punctuation fool you.

I'm back from the break of graduating from Nova Southeastern University! I had some job offers after my graduation which is why I couldn't come here often.

Now, what I did not do is set the "clock" at $100.

[$100]

Now, to refresh everyone, from here, the clock will start and for every
1 hour and 30 minutes
, $5 will be taken away, so you have 30 hours to get this, and the time starts NOW!

Actually around $75, $50, and $25, I'll be giving you clues.

Should've said from the start...

Anyways, first clue!

The last word is based on one of the One-Word Hasbro game boards.

Here are the remaining 2 clues. However, I'm dropping it to $25 to save time. Hopefully, you'll get this now.

The last word is based on one of the One-Word Hasbro game boards.

Many cautious people do this than risky people.

The second word is what many banks have to deposit a lot of money.

Sorry about my absentness from time to time, but that's how the Gibberish Question works.

Moving on! It's now time for the Total Knock-Out round.

Image
Image

I have 12 more answers for you, and they are...

Sea of FertilitySea of SerenitySea of MoscowSea of Okhotsk
Black SeaIonian SeaCoral SeaHumbolot Sea
North SeaSouth SeaAndaman SeaMechta Sea

This time, we're looking at
The Moon's Sea.

Here's the question that you should listen carefully:

Tell me, which 6 of these 12 seas are on the moon?

It works just like the Knock-Out round in Round 1, we'll take turns picking answers, but this time, the roles reverse. Now, you want to find the INCORRECT answers, or else....

Image

you'll find one of those
Knock-Outs
. Find one of those, and you'll be out for the rest of this round, but this time, you lose the money that you accumulated up to that point.

Also, there are more rewards up on the board. 4 of them are worth $25, 1 of them is $50, and 1 is worth a big $100.

puzzledan, you're the lowest man on the totem pole, so you get to go first. The first pick is risk-free.

I can promise you right now that now I can fully access to the internet, I should have NO excuses from this point.

With that said, is the Sea of Serenity NOT one of the 6 seas on the Moon?

Sea of FertilityImageSea of MoscowSea of Okhotsk

Oh! It looks like the Sea of Serenity IS one of them, so you are knocked out of this round, but if there's any good news, you didn't lose anything.

(Fame Game time!)

First of all, sorry for the LARGE delay and life. And second, it's time for the final Fame Game.

We got all 4 Money Cards, including the $25 Money Card up there. And we also have a Wild Card up there on the board.

Again, this is a First-Come, first-served basis question.

I'll be posting all of the clues to our players and then post an answer here.

For the third Fame Game, we're looking for a famous person.

I am an actor and musician, born in Cypress, California on August 19, 1963. I am the oldest child and only son of a former swimsuit model who was raised in England and is of Irish and English ancestry and a restaurateur of Greek descent. I attended John F. Kennedy High School. I began my acting career with the role of Blackie Parrish on the soap opera General Hospital in late January 1982, for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1984. I later starred in a musical sitcom where I shared lead vocals on a version of the song "Alone", a few years before Heart made it famous. I earned a role in the sitcom You Again? with Jack Klugman, but I am most famous for my role as a "bad boy" who moves in with his brother-in-law and nieces. On that show, my character's last name was changed from Cochran to Katsopolis in the second season.

If you know who this person is, post your answer here.
