I want to take a break to talk about my favourite mathematician, Erdős Pál.
You can see him telling a joke here:

He was into number theory and set theory and graphs and combinatorics and he wrote SO MANY papers and I really feel he was one of the most important mathematicians of the 20th century.

He was great not just with mathematics but also with people. He could remember what everybody’s interests were and could keep track of all the other mathematicians and what they liked and what they were good at and could send anybody the exact sort of mathematical problem or conjecture that they might be able to solve and would enjoy solving.

He didn’t have a home or very many possessions, he spent most of his life couch surfing with fellow mathematicians but everyone was happy to see him because he was really good at mathematics.
