Let’s veer back towards prime numbers because I want to talk about Mersenne primes. The largest known Mersenne prime is 2^57885161 -1. Actually, all ten of the largest known prime numbers are Mersenne primes which is really weird when you think of it because they’re rare and it’s a slow algorithm to find them but I guess some people just care more about Mersenne Primes than about other primes.

Mersenne primes come in the pattern 2ⁿ-1. If n is composite then 2ⁿ-1 is also composite so only prime n need to be checked.

Those are all the ones we know about.

I mostly care about Mersenne because of the Mersenne Twister, a commonly used pseudorandom number generator. It’s not cryptographically secure because you only need to run it a few times (624 times in the case of MT19937) before you can predict all the future output of the function, but it’s good enough if you’re making a game. The wikipedia article provides sample code in both pseudocode and Python.

Check. The chances they're actually scumhunting is just monumentally small vs the chances they chose a stance that they thought looked good and then felt locked into it.
