well if there are any mind flayers, you're in luck

they're not very well armored and their mind blast range is too short to fight your bow, so you can kite and kill them in 3-4 volleys

realistically, they'll probably just stun/eat your front line and then plane shift away

I just learned that swift hunter feat from complete scoundrel is amazing

it's one of those feats that let you dual class effectively (in this case ranger and scout), but in addition to stacking levels for skirmish and favored enemy, it lets you use skirmish on things normally immune to skirmish if they're your favored enemy

this is fucking game changing, and this redeems an entire class (kinda like how daring outlaw makes swashbucklers playable)

You would need at least one level of scout to even take the feat because the skirmish feature is a prerequisite. How much of each class you should go into depends on what features you want to utilize from each class.

It certainly does solve the damage problem, but skirmish is only effective vs foes that are 30ft or less away

Pure ranger's biggest advantage is his range on his bow

Mhm, especially the way I've specced Karl. Even shelled out for a composite for an extra 10ft of range. Still haven't picked a new feat yet!

For your new feat, I'd just recommend weapon focus on longbows.

Your level 6 feat should be improved rapid shot.
