he came into the game with greater knowledge than I had. it was defo meta-based and he did a pretty freaking fantastic job of scything me down.

the only defense I cld come up with was wth. which is a piss poor defense and I know that, I was caught so off guard. I suppose I learned a good deal from it since it really made me pretty sensitive to certain arguments as to where I was scum and it gave me time to think about how to argue/counteract against them in future games.

I mean how do you argue against a good town argument. what I discovered is that you get creative!

the advantage is why I am arguing against alts tho!

That can happen when someone who knows you replaces in with their main too. Pretty sure Charter did it too me once back in the day. He replaced in and I had played exactly to his perception of my scum meta to that point and I was scum and he drove my lynch in a game I was gonna win.

I just gave it a re-read and I was playing amazing until Charter replaced in. His case on me was weak, but I reacted poorly. If there was a reason I was scum there, it was my tunneling on CnT. Still though, he came in with quite a bit of meta on me and flipped my game that was near perfect until that point. He nailed my buddy who wasn't getting much attention as well. Oh and I'm a little creeped out that Yaw referenced ebola in 2009.

^ yeah I don't really see what is different about an alt vs replacement/someone who knows you well but you don't know them well

Especially if you're scum. I mean, I guess it's nice to know what they'd be looking for so you don't do it, but chances are you've already been playing a certain way up to the point that they replace in.

yea. Its the dangerous part about using what the people in the game know about you to play as scum, right? If no one in the game knows certain scum tells about you, you can totally play to that part of your scum meta. The risk is if someone replaces in and knows that about you

i don't think this is a fundamental quality about alts, I think you just got screwed mollie

I like my alts as I like to make jokes. Fairly certain everyone knows who my alts are and certain no one has a meta on me as I have retired too often. Never really played enough for a long enough time for someone to get a meta on me.

I am considering making a new alt named "The Most Interesting Man In The World" or because that's probably too long "The Dos Equis Guy"

All my posts would be something like "I don't always ____ but when I do _____"

I don't always roll town, but when I do, I vote scum
I don't always roll vig, but when I do, I prefer to kill on night 0
I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I am not on the wagon

Poker, I actually don't know if I've ever played with you. I think it would be a lot of fun because I know you from discussion threads, but not from mafia. So I don't know your meta even though I'm familiar with you as a poster. It would be an interesting challenge to read you in a game.

its...not the same thing.

this player slipped that he was an alt and it became really apparent that he knew me really well.

also that is just 1 example!

I am just going to go with that 2/3 of the site is composed of alts which just makes me a more paranoid freakshow of a player than I already was

Also, I still think hydras are an abomination into this game. Way worse than alts since they actually affect game balance.

Hydras are far worse than alts. You got to try to read two players and or fool two players. Alts don't bother me as I usually don't give a crap about people's metas.

These are the reasons I alt occasionally. I don't use meta that much, so it's fairer I guess.

I don't mind alts so much. Unless they are being abused.

But hydras have a problem. You have to take the two heads into account. One head may disagree with the other. Or one head may play differently than the other. You may read one head as scum, and another as town. It is easy for a hydra to say: "Well, that's just my other head. Don't mind them."

Hydras are fun sometimes. They're useful when you're really short on time and still want to play a bit.
I understand why people wouldn't like them however. Also, part of the fun in mafia is finding people to trust and work together with which becomes trivial when you have a hydra.

I will only hydra with people I know well and work together well with in games. I can understand not liking them if you are scum and they are town or even if they are scum who can talk to each other as a hydra where they wouldn't be able to if the game didn't have daytalk. They are fun though.

Yeah, basically a hydra is a private faction (like Masons) with an extra voteless player.

I think the practice is goofy, but I view hydras as worse.
