I mean mods editing vote counts in at the top of a page.Mr. Flay wrote:I've not seen a lot of it happening, but I suspect that's because I'm religious about getting a new post up near the top of each new page. Usually players start posting vote counts (hopefully marked "unofficial") when the mod starts to drift off or be absent, or posting goes nuts for a brief time (see the deadline period of Methodical Mafia's Day 1, when we cranked out like 5 pages in 12 hours).Zindaras wrote:This is a bit of a tangent, but I'd like to ask it anyway:
How do you think vote counts should be done? I personally prefer seeing the mod post them, so I can use the View All Posts By User function to make a voting analysis, but I see a lot of people editing them in.

I would edit vote counts into the first post of every page (or, just try toZindaras wrote:

That's fine, I do a similar thing...Mr Stoofer wrote:I often edit player's posts when they make a stupid mistake, like hammering in lylo when they didn't realise it was lylo. There's nothing wrong with that is there?
I always delete posts if scum quicklynch in LyLo, because quicklynching isn't fair to the town.-

I don't care for it either. I think mods should only edit if there is something like a metatron meltdown, or if it is racist or something, or if it specifically requested in the thread.Zindaras wrote:I mean mods editing vote counts in at the top of a page.-

Lawrencelot does that. I'm not sure how i feel- on the one hand, it's convenient when doing a general re-read, otoh it makes it impossible to isolate the vote counts to get a feel on the flow of a game by searching the mod's posts.Mr. Flay wrote:
Oh, never seen that. I'd be irritated.Zindaras wrote:I mean mods editing vote counts in at the top of a page.
And I'd never fix spelling, simply because I've breadcrumbed by way of spelling mistake before.-

The site used to be set up so that any forum you had mod privs in (Little Italy, for example), you could edit/delete ANY post in that forum. Our technomage, JEEP, changed that sometime earlier this year (?) so that you can only edit posts in threads you start, or where you've been assigned the rights as "backup/replacement mod".somestrangeflea wrote:Why do many mods have "Do not edit or delete your posts." as a rule, when it's not possible to do so?
I have an inkling as to what the answer is, but I wanna make sure...
The old way only applies to List Moderators now, as far as I can tell... but it's still a good idea to remind people, just not as necessary.Retired as of October 2014.-

Not in general. If somone accidenly posts like 10 times in a row (I remember that happening a lot back during one of the crashes, lol), then perhaps.Mr. Flay wrote:[*]Remove/blank double-posts

Meh. Dosn't matter either way.[*]Fix unintentional smilies (8) for example)
Personal information, yeah. If you slip and say something about the game you're currently in, don't rememove it unless it somehow badly unbalances the game (like illegally posting an entire role PM might do in some games). If you slip and say something about another game, eh...probably not, unless you're accidently or intentionally violating site rules (posting a PM from one game in another game, ect).[*]Remove accidental outing of roles (for any game) or personal information (home phone, last name, SSN, etc)

And about Zind's question, I agree that it's better to just post the votecount when the mod makes it rather then edit it in on top of the page. It makes it a pain to find the votecounts, to figure out exactally when the mod did the vote-count, to tell the difference between an offical vote-count and one a player did, and it's just generally more confusing.I want us to win just for Yos' inevitable rant alone. -CrashTextDummie-
