He is saying that the navy is full of raging homosexuals. I have been propositioned, and know he is not lying. I was honestly surprised by the amount of gay men among the (small) amount of naval personnel I know.

I really don't understand what you are talking about? Is it Marines being close-knit with the Navy? The Navy approves our budget, we ride their boats, they are an aquatic force, we are an amphibious infantry? What are you talking about?
Surfs up dude.

In post 0, Ythill wrote:As you'd expect, this lifestyle conveys many of the benefits of being single. We can flirt, date, fuck, or whatever when the opportunity arises.

I flirt, date, fuck, and whatever with my wife.
We can have meaningful platonic friendships with members of the opposite sex without having to deal with paranoia.

I have a meaningful friendship - the most meaningful friendship of my life - with a member of the opposite sex and I don't have to deal with paranoia, because that friend is my wife.
We can go out with friends, come home late, and not have to answer dramatic questions.

I came home late Saturday night and didn't have to answer dramatic questions, because i was out at a concert with my wife. We then scored and went to bed.

We also enjoy most of the benefits typically associated with being in a normal long-term relationship including love, stability, freindship, etc.

IMO your love and friendship will never reach the heights that they could if you were completely devoted to each other. You're basically trading away a really deep relationship in order to get more, shallower relationships.

But I'm old and conservative, so my view probably isn't worth much around here. :P

For what it's worth, I'm married and can relate to what you said about your relationship with your wife. My wife and I do everything together. If I want to get a few guys together for a poker game, they know to deal her in. If I'm watching football, she's on the couch next to me. If she makes plans with her friends, I'll ask what time I should be ready. And the whole "paranoia" thing? We just laugh at that.

Polyamory? Is this some weird spinoff of Balamory I didn't hear about?

Sex with my wife is, like, ~really~ fun. Hasn't gotten old after 25 years, and in fact keeps getting better. When you're only pushing one set of buttons for 25 years, you get ~really, really~ good at pushing them. :D

Can we just say that mono/polyamory are both perfectly viable and acceptable choices and they both have their pros/cons (which matter different amounts to different people).

You can say it all you want, but I find arguing to be more fun.

There was a Jeff Foxworthy bit about that.

But how else will I demonstrate that the way in which I live my life is objective the best for everyone???

I'm not shy on being opinionated. I would think that would be common among mafia players.
