A couple reasons.

1. I like having to work my way up from a difficult position (partially why I don't mind this ridiculous wagon much)
2. I just like feeling useful with my actions.
3. Actions in general are fun. Even negative utility is fun because it's quirky.

Won't lie I agree it's more fun to play scum over VT. Can't call that bad or good.

But, DiamondS, being VT is fun because you don't have any action responsibility. No one can give you flak for handling your roleblock wrong, copping the wrong guy, etc.
Instead, you get to fully push your cases without fear of seeming 'too town'--this can be an issue because scum sometimes prefer killing outspoken townies. If you've got a PR, maybe you want to avoid that attention, but as VT you can fully throw yourself into the rhetoric of the game without having to make any changes in play based on your style.

VT, vig, and BP are my favorite roles!

I tend to find scum very easily as I'm in the top scumhunters on site, so being VT means that there are other town forces to either support me or help me finish the job. BP is an even better role for me because I can really go balls to the wall and destroy the entire scum team with no fear of repercussion. I play vig very conservatively, and that's the major difference you can find in my playstyle, as I try to keep myself from getting killed while I snipe at the scum at night (I'm highly accurate with killing / RB'ing powers).
