not really open, but:

Ringmaker mafia: have a Ringmaker and maybe some hobbits, dwarves, elves, ring wraiths, gollum as SK. Ringmaker hands out sets of 9/7/3/1 rings. Each set of rings gives a kill or other power, target decided by plurality vote of the owners. Have some mechanism to destroy rings, hand them over to others, have using them be dangerous, etc etc.

ANOTHER GIMMICK-LADEN SETUP

4 2-life mafia (resurrect upon death, there's 4 'cause they're EVIL)
4 3-life mafia (like the above but they resurrect TWICE)
6 cops that have RANDOM SANITY from (sane, insane, paranoid, naive, random, pine fresh*)
1 doc that is actually a vig that is actually a PARANOID GUN OWNER
1 miller-delayed-nk immune-cop immune-immune immune vig that only kills scum
9 MILLERS
9 DEATH MILLERS
9 MILLERS AND DEATH MILLERS
1 Steve Jobs**
2 townies
And a partridge in a pear tree***

*Gets a result of "fresh scent" or "bad odor" randomly
**PR townie, must add the letter i to the front of every iWord
***dies at night unless someone feeds it

Now can we stop with the line of broken, awful gimmicky setups that would never work in an actual mafia game?

SS3.1


1 SS SK
1 Judas (begins as town)
1 Saulus (begins as scum)

If the SS is lynched, then he dies and his hammerer dies as well. He wins all endgames.
If the Judas dies by SS, he becomes scum.
If the Saulus dies by SS, he becomes town.
SS SK and Saulus both have a NK if they should choose to NL.

I'm pretty sure I got this idea from a variation of an IRC game I played at some point. Don't quote me on that; I'm hazy.

I came up with this setup with the goal of having several different possible strategies for each player - none of them have any particularly good reason to choose one strategy over another, so it's entirely possible that a scenario like everyone claiimng the same thing will occur. Based on those strategies, there's dozens of ways the game could be played.

I'm aware that this setup will result in an immediate mass claim (unless the players are stupid...?); that's my goal; it's designed to test the ingenuity of each player in constructing a believable claim that will win the game.

With 4 scum in a 12 player game, they'd pretty much have to all be sane for there to be any chance at balance.

I suspect as it is it's probably roughly balanced with a huge variance.

The cops are all sane.

Mith: while the variance is large, wouldn't the results of cop investigations tend to balance out, making the game a little less "swingy" than a typical mini normal where the town plays "follow the cop"? I put the vig in to make the game a little more swingy than it would otherwise be. I have high hopes for this game being fun to play.
