Every single use of that term I've ever seen in my 7+ years on this site has meant: "This vote was a random vote, but now it's serious." -or- "I am confirming my vote because I am even more sure of my read now than I was before."

This is correct. Back in the day we used to say it to mean "my vote isn't moving"

In fact, iirc some people used to not count votes for lynches until they were confirmed but I think that might have been more of a chat mafia thing? It was a long time ago.

The point being why are people doing this

My perception was it means "this was initially a random vote, now it's a realzies vote".

I've never heard of a "this is my vote I'm not changing it the entire day" thing.
