Disagree. I don't see that as a trust me. If he still has the same concern later in D1, I'd be inclined to find it scummy but I'm very much against group think too.

Nope. I told him not to worry to get him to open up and address his fear earlier to get reads from him. That doesn't mean that because I told him to the fear will go away. I'm not superwoman. :-p
