I am surprised foles went to KC. Alex smith is solid starter so foles won't get a chance unless smith goes down to injury.

Dallas strikes me as the better deal as Romo more likely to get injuried than Smith

Both KC and Dal contenders so that's not a factor

Dal in trouble if tony goes down again this year

Geno would benefit from Dalas's solid Oline if he went there. Geno is more mobile than Tony, while Tony beats him in just about every other category

He didn't choose the Cowboys because Jerry and Stephen Jones essentially said he wasn't as good as Kellen Moore when he became a FA. Andy Reid is the guy who drafted him, so that might have made a difference.

Well, there's a possibility of a game tonight, apparently they used the wrong paint for the end zones and center field, and it's currently unsafe to play on.

I got to watch preseason football over weekend

Will criticize browns qbs at end of preseason

Prescott looked amazing in cowboys debut

Brock and Gabert were about what I expected which was mediocre to bad

Was fitz hired before or after the infamous punch last year for Jets?

Fitz was traded to the Jets on March 11th. IK Enemkpali's MVP-clinching moment came 5 months later, on August 11th.

6th round pick that they traded to the Falcons as part of the trade up two spots to pick Nick Martin. Martin's currently their starting center... so I guess they turned Fitzpatrick into like... a starting O-Lineman's leg, if we're being generous?

And that's because it upgraded from a 7th round pick because Fitz got enough playing time. I wonder if the Texans sent a fruit basket to IK Enemkpali to say thanks?

So that Dak Prescott might be Romo's heir on the Cowboys.

Considering how well he is doing he may be the gem of the draft. Cowboys defense may still need work with the issues they been having but their offense is good. I don't feel they will be sol without romo again. I'd still try to have 3-4 qbs at season start if I was them though to be safe. Keep romo, dak and whoever is next best

Thus far in the preseason, Bryce Petty is clearly out-playing Geno Smith. It's odd that they're not letting Hackenberg play, but he's a second round rookie so it'd be really hard to imagine the Jets having given up on him already, and even harder to believe they'd cut him. Fitz is the clear starter. If Petty and Smith are playing for one slot on the depth chart, then unless Geno does something in the remaining preseason games that he's never shown before, he's gone - and it's getting harder and harder to pick out a landing spot for him.

I wouldn't doubt it, they have a career arena back up and a 24 yo rookie (from the conference I played in during high school no less). I have faith Geno could slot right in.

On a serious note, idk why teams are so slow to cut bait on these shittos. QB is really motherfucking hard and if you can't do it after 3 years in the big time, you just can't do it. You're a shitto for life. Plain and simple man. There are unemployed guys I would 100% take over geno. Lindley, Freeman, Yates. Those guys are all various level of bad too but I'd trust all of them to not suck as bad as Geno. You gotta fill out a roster but it's tough to do that with a QB that only played a spread and can't run ANYTHING else. I'd rather go with one of the greener guys moving forward on any roster than slot a shitto like Geno. He's a dead spot. His cut-level talent. Just release him and hope Petty or Hack is the answer.

Alex Smith looked like a waste of a roster slot after three years, he picked it up and became an above average starter. Kurt Warner washed out of the NFL before becoming an IOWA BARNSTORMER and eventually becoming a Super Bowl winning QB and nearly winning a second.Players improve at different rates, some need time to mature, some just need to be coached properly instead of being treated like video game players. It's not hard to understand why people cling on to shittos they drafted in the hopes that they'll suddenly flick the switch and become alright to good players.

Alex Smith always kinda looked like Alex Smith though(Full disclosure : Alex Smith is from my neighborhood and played pop warner with my cousins and Bush). A guy who could be perfectly serviceable in a decent scheme and manage the game. Kurt Warner is a fair point but just because 1 bag boy goes on to have a near hall of fame career doesn't mean we should be keeping a bag boy on every roster, ya know? And what's the difference between Geno and Hack and Petty right now? They are all bag boys to me. The only true difference is Geno is a certified bag boy the other two we just speculate they are.

The Jets are probably just accepting that Hackenberg isn't ready while Petty and Smith are competing for a spot on the roster, so him being on the field isn't important. The experience would be valuable, but that's my best guess.

Also, I'd rather have Geno than Freeman. Maybe even Lindley. Yates over Geno for sure though. I'm sure they'll all find jobs at least as backups before the end of the season except maybe Lindley.

- I think Alex Smith hit more than serviceable, fwiw, and I personally think Warner's a future Hall of Famer (borderline, sure, but on the right side of the line), but that's just quibbling.

- Football doesn't have too many examples of late bloomers because the fundamental infrastructure isn't there to enable those kinda people to survive playing the game before they finally make it. It's certainly not common, but it's a lot less uncommon in other sports with different organizational structures.

- The Hackenberg situation is weird, because the Jets won't just come out and say "He's a work in progress, and we feel it's better for his future development if he not play yet" or "Petty and Smith are fighting for a roster slot, so we need to take longer looks at them" or whatever their reason is, which opens the door to some crazy speculation that can't be good for anyone.

- Freeman at least had like one good season, which is two more than Geno.

I'm too lazy to look the stats up, but I think Freeman was putting it all together after a couple of decent years and had his career completely torpedo'd by that shithead D coach from rutgers that got the TB job a few years back. The one that tried to cheese NYG on a kneel down and was like "NO WE PLAY HARD EVERY SNAP BLAH BLAH". If he had a different landing spot than TB, I think he would of been pretty good actually.

As far as late bloomers go, don't they normally happen after a major sport wide shift in tactics and/or a promising guy that got derailed by injuries and came back after a long lay off? I think Kurt Warner fits in one of those categories. Shaun Livingston(basketball) is kinda in both camps. I can't think of any guy in the sport I follow that really just turned it on after years of not really being able to figure it out. But I agree the examples are few and far between cause most sports don't have time to wait.

In Freeman's case, it was being traded to the Vikings and thrown in the lineup before he'd had time to learn their offence that really killed his career. He's never been any good since.

US sports with their franchise model, rookie drafts and - particularly for the NFL - lack of a real minor league system are structurally configured against late bloomers. Randy Johnson's probably the best example in US sports, and baseball has the best minor league system in US sports. It's more common (though obviously bot that common) in sports like soccer, where most of the world operates promotion/relegation systems that allow players who peak later in lower divisions climb higher and make their mark when they';d otherwise be forgotten - Jamie Vardy and Rickie Lambert are more recent examples, off the top of my head.

Alex Smith was not good with the niners back then. He got serviceable with harbaugh and is still that if not slightly better in kc with the staff there

Warner will be in the hall of fame in a few years

Geno Smith will be cut before season starts.

I think Dallas should consider 4 QBs on roster, yes Romo and Dak are good but I'd rather be overly safe. There are good odds Romo goes down again and Dak is still a rookie so he could get injuried as well. I'd rather be overly safe than underly safe if I was dallas this year.
