Just lost in the finals of a PPTQ. Was so close. Thought I had turned the corner in both games 1 and 3, but Kolaghan's Command is a heck of a card, and I was unable to keep up with it with my draws.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

I was considering getting back into Standard come Kaladesh with monoRed (as it's usually cheap) and then they had to go and spoil the new Chandra so I guess I'll just stick to Pauper if I start playing regularly again.
Spoiler: Chandra
Also this guy's pretty sweet:
Reminds me of Keldon Marauders. No guaranteed damage and 1 more mana for +1/+1, Haste, and the possibility to keep it in play longer seems fine.If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?

idk, she looks great to me as a 2 of, maybe 3 of. Chandra Pyromaster wasn't amazing in Standard either a few years back but she was good enough in the red shell I was running.
Cast her t4 and either plus to get a two drop down (vs control, maybe aggro mirror) or minus to kill a dude (vs aggro or midrange). If it survives a turn you can start drawing cards, or binning lands and shocking them.
I'm not great at card evaluation but I think this'll see a good chunk of play. Especially if control is strong but doesn't have a decent wrath at 4 mana.If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?

I think that's probably one of the least offensive. Sol Ring is what's going to crush people. Maybe followed by sword of fire and ice?In post 7163, Natirasha wrote:I can't wait to lose to Sword of Feast and Famine in Kaladesh LimitedTaking a break from the site.-

HAHAHAHA. This is a small world. So I wanted to see how Cow did before he said anything so I pulled Cow's name off his fantasy football team and started going through the GP Louisville coverage page, while it's not as small as us playing each other our teams actually sat right next to each other in the first round. We were on the end of the row of tables and they were right next to us.-

Sol Ring is powerful but mana ramp cards are only as good as the cards they can ramp. Putting out an early 4/4 is way less backbreaking than ramping out a Narset or something. The swords are different because they are just unbeatable if they have the color advantage on you(and even if they don't they grind so much incremental advantage...)In post 7167, chamber wrote:

Swords are strong, but Sol Ring gets picked over Black Lotus in powered cubes fairly often. I think you have a better chance if your opponent untaps on turn 4 with a sword than untapping t2 with a Sol Ring. I mean you're probably still going to lose to either card, it's just a matter of how fast.
I'd put Mana Crypt above the Swords as well. Not sure about Mana Vault. If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?

Fantastic. I wasn't paying that much attention to the tables around me round 1, due to our opponents being team East-West Bowl.In post 7169, Debonair Danny DiPietro wrote:HAHAHAHA. So:In post 7161, hasdgfas wrote:I was at GP Louisville this weekend for Team Sealed. It was a fun weekend. I may give a fuller explanation when I am back in front of a computer and not on my phone.
Friday: I did terribly in side drafts, but was able to turn it around and actually win a match in the Foiled Again sealed event, which made me feel better for the main event the next day.
Saturday - Main Event: We ended up building a sweet UG Emerge deck with double Elder Deep Fiend and double Lashweed Lurker, as well as a Drownyard Behemoth and a Wretched Gryff. We also put together a fairly aggressive GW Humans deck that had a Decimator of the Provinces to finish games off with. Our third deck was an awkward RB, low-synergy deck that all we hoped we needed from it was for it to steal a couple wins.
Then we got paired up against Andrew Brown, JC Tao, and Eugene Hwang round 1. Which was awesome, because that's why you go to GPs, right? They were a pleasure to play against, even though each of us lost(and Andrew's deck that I played against had JaceandTamiyo). I got a couple Prism Arrays signed by Andrew and JC, which was neat.
Next we won two straight, then we lost one due to a bunch of mulligans in game 3s. We won in R5 to go to 3-2 and were feeling pretty good. Then in the next two rounds, we lost to mulliganing unkeepable hands into unkeepable hands, or not drawing a 3rd land and getting run over. It felt like we hit a really bad run of variance in the main event, although it's hard to fully analyze when you're not watching every match in the match. I was playing the Emerge deck, so things felt good on my end, but it felt like every time I went to go watch my teammates play after I finished, they were mulliganing to 6 or 5.
We played one more round as another friend from Madison was judging, and had to debrief, but we wanted to have dinner all together. We ate at a delicious German-inspired bar and craft beer restaurant.
Sunday: Super Sunday Series. All of us decided to play in this. My pool felt really awkward to me, like I could make about 80% of a couple decks, and about 60% of a couple more, but couldn't quite get to a full deck I was happy with. Here is my pool if you want to try to put something together with it. I went 0-3, then dropped to go draft, even though 4-3 was guaranteed prizes, because I didn't want to spend 4 hours playing for minimum prizes when I could go draft a couple more times. One of my teammates went 1-3 drop, but the other one made top 8! Sadly he lost to the eventual winner in the quarters, whose deck had Liliana, Avacyn, and Thalia's Lancers, plus an Anguished Unmaking. Even with that, my friend could have won if he had thought about the hidden mode of Boon of Emrakul, to pump his own creature's power. Still, it was a fantastic performance that he was very happy with.
After I dropped, I drafted a couple times, split in the finals of one and scrubbed out from the other.(It really wasn't my weekend for side events). I also got to have a nice conversation with Howard Lyon, bought some prints and an artist proof from him, and he put a great sketch on the back of the proof. I also bought a prerelease Tamiyo from a vendor because Tamiyo's the best. It was some fun browsing of everything with a much emptier hall.
Overall, it was a very fun weekend and I'm very happy we went, even though we didn't have as good of a main event performance as we wanted. I'm looking forward to GP Milwaukee in December, which should be the next one I'll be attending.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

Yeah, I wouldn't have remembered table numbers but I remembered that Hwang, Brown, and Tao were diagonal of us in the first round because at GP Detroit we actually played them in the first round (and beat them down) and then when I saw you played them first round it clicked. In post 7173, hasdgfas wrote:Fantastic. I was on a WU tempo deck with Gisela, Always Watching, Odric, and Niblis of Frist and mulliganed way too much and had way too many draws that didn't do what the deck wanted to do. My brother was on RG werewolves but it was mediocre due to the lack of good two drops and cheap removal and our third was playing a GBu emerge/delirium thing, in retrospect it probably should've been straight GB and streamlined a bit and then the blue boarded in situationally instead of being boarded out on occasion.
We lost our first round to gold level pro Eric Severson and some other respectable teammates. We rallied back to win two straight and then dropped round 4 as well. We picked up round 5 and were hoping the 1-2 pattern would repeat but we took another loss in round 6. So we needed to go 3-0 to make day two, our round 7 opponents didn't show up and we handled round 8 well enough but in round 9 we got roughed up and finished 5-4.
~~
So your SSS pool is interesting, good creature base in every color, bad removal in every color. You probably played white because double Lancers and Thalia is so strong but then the other color is just a crapshoot other than I'd say not red.Last edited by Debonair Danny DiPietro on Wed Sep 14, 2016 7:28 am, edited 1 time in total.
