and he answered cause you could use that to confirm yourself as town

(not shot) or if town wins. Any of those two conditions makes him win. And according to mod answer him winning does not mean town can't win later.

It's a 2/1/1 situation, we have 1 possible lynch left. If we lynch jester!dreal, town loses. If we leave dreal alive, we have a chance to win.

Shooting him earlier has the same consequences (namely, 1 less mislynch) but we make the choice earlier.
