Claiming one-shot makes a whole lot of sense because then everybody forgets about your potential kill which you can use to snatch the game back in a final nightphase or something.
You could also be just full on bulletproof (as an aside, this gives dreal's doctor role more weight) which would explain your skyrocketed skill as scum this game.

Creature knows how to be unlynchable, and he knows how to find scum. As sk, he can scumhunt his heart out (doesnt know mafia alignment) in the day phase and not worry about getting picked at night. It offers him a fresh challenge in Mafia, actually improving his scumgame. This explains why he's not quite as obvious as he usually is.

This is me deep in a tunnel, fwiw, and note I said 'possibility'.
