double click whichever you downloaded
chose the DireWolf20 5.1.1 pack on the left.
in the bottom right corner, hit new account type in your miencraft deets
hit save
hit login
allow it do download and instal
it goes nowhere near touching your .minecraft folder.
seems pretty easy thanks I'll look into it tonight.
I think I'll be the FTB Transit Director - building and maintaining roads and rails and shit between everyone's bases.
lol.
have fun learnign how to make rails again.
If you become the Railcraft god and get us some badass Railcraft-assery goin though, epicccccccccccccc

Hell, it seems people have to start over more often than that.
I mean, I've been reaching towards trying to get some end-game items recently, but I will never be able to accomplish anything like that because it seems every time I'm close, I lose absolutely everything.
Idk - I have another server lined up that I've started playing on during the down time. I think I'm going to be playing over there for a while at least.
it isn't a fair amount of regularity. Its twice, once everyone wanted the change, and the second time was a computer fuck up.

was my plan. i was merely going to add the use of /home with some RIDICULOUS timer on it and no /back
Also, Maru, is it possible to isolate just the important files (i.e. NOT all the hundreds of backups and stuff that we have taking up space) and download them, either manually or automatically? Because if so I'd be more than happy to download some kind of bare minimum that we need to keep going with a map on a regular basis.
yes there is, in an yserver, an yfile starting with the name "world" (FTB server may be different and start witth the seed number, we'll see once multicraft is back up)
download those to your hearts content, and have M allow FTP read-only access to as many users as want to download them, and i can read-only access a few peopel to FTB to allow anyone to manually back up worlds that are important to them. This should in fact relieve 90% of rob's qualms with FTB, the age deletion no longer becomes a problem if it is self-backed up in addition to anything I do, every user can back up what they do after every time they log in, and never lose any work.

I like blake's idea, and that is the main reason I want bukkit, With LWC we can add in user-defined blocks and we can make Nuclear Reactors lwcable, machines, thaumcraft goodies, ANYTHING.
@ everyone, "whats going on" we're just about 100% finished with all server-maintenance, then I will work some multicraft magic on the FTB server so expect downtime while i instal shit, then we should be back up by later tonight.

as long as we instal it from the start, bukkit shouldn't fuck up our server with this way of instaling it. there are very many other FTB server running all of the different modpacks with bukkit successfully, there should be no problem in getting ours to either.

Nope. In fact I've been speaking out against use of Mystcraft (and Twilight) until the server is more permanent.
So here's everybody's official warning: you can keep your Descriptive Books for now, but you are not allowed to use them.
@Maru: when is server consolidation likely to happen? The RAM loss on the temporary location of the FTB server, plus the lack of CP control, is getting quite noticeable and frustrating...I was under the impression this was going to be a problem that lasted a matter of hours, but please keep me informed.
waiting on corin, when we moved, multicraft had some bugs so he spent the weekend re-installing multicraft and getting all its datbases set up.

It is fixed in the DW20 5.2.0 update (we think), so when that pushes recommended, we will, as always, upgrade.
it will be back, likely tomorrow or thursday. the update is published and available, just waiting on recommended before i instal it. ya'll can both log in and get to the point where you have a TF portal ready to go, then wait till it gets re-added when we update rather than QQing because i sacrificed 48 hours of your happiness to stop the server from crashing every time someone entered TF when i had no way to re-start it without Corin
Registered - now how do I actually perform a back-up? I'd like to keep one a month just in case.
once you have read-FTP access, you will see servers on the server list you have access to, you click the server name go to files on the left, FTP, grab those details (password is safe as login) and use a program like FileZilla to get the files from the server to your computer.
its currently ~500mb, and it took filezilla only 8 minutes to transfer on my connection.
I'll do this whenever I play and keep a few backups. I'm sure in a few months the directory will get a lot bigger and then I'll think about changing how I do it.
Another thing I've come across is sites mentioning to disable saving during file transfer or I could end up with a corrupted backup. The recommended procedure is /save all, /save off, do backup, /save on - I don't think its a very good idea for me or anyone other than ops to be able to turn saving on and off for obvious reasons, just pointing out that this may limit the actual benefit to any of this manual saving. If there was a save between 9:07 and 9:15 PM est while I was copying the files, it might not be possible to use them to restore anything anyways. idk, I'm not entirely sure how it all works. I would guess it'd be ideal to copy files when no one is on the server (shouldn't be any saves then right?) which I can see from the CP, but then that limits when I can actually do the backups anyways. Just food for thought.
The worst thing u can think of happening is that the chunks in use during your backup get corrupted. So if you ask everyone to log out first it should be fine

the number is based on the server number. The FTB server is server number nine, therefor when accessing FTB files, you will login with:
IP and port in the FTB server FTP settings
username.9
password.
the MS (was) 2 last i checked, so it would be username.2 and the ip it gives (I think it is locating at a different IP access as well)
Thats the problem. the way it is right now is unplayable. to fix it is going to require quite a lot of work, because you all already have all the new shit in the mods in the world, so we can't just go downgrade to 5.1.1, and to change to any other modpack to try to eliminate lag would cause us to start over from scratch again.

you guys are missing the point.
shittyness happened when i updated 5.2
shittyness was not nearly as prevalent on 5.1.1. part of 5.2 is xycraft. to go back to 5.1.1 we have to get rid of new xycraft stuff as well as anything ELSE that is new.

MAke an effort to make things look presentable if you're building a railway
don't throw down HUNDREDS OF RAILS EVERYWHERE on dirt and call it a day.
>.<
Also: I chose the location of my base because it is ridiculously pretty, overlooking a river in an Autumn Forest biome. I haven't built anything overground yet because I want to make sure I get it right when I do build (except that I've laid out where I want to put my farms to make sure they won't ruin the view -- but I still might move them underground and replant that area with Autumn Forest trees.)
Basically what I'm saying is that a railway line is unlikely to be sympathetic to the landscape, so if you want to build one up to my place, perhaps come round the back where it borders onto a Savannah biome and leave the Autumn Forest untouched. Alternatively, just leave me out of it for now, and I'll link myself into the railway network at a later date.
1. I am doing my absolute best to not touch the landscape in any way, and if you look at the (unfinished) line leading from M's to izak and further it takes some crazy paths because of it.
2. I don't yet have a waypoint at your location so idk where you live.
3 I can leave you to connect to it at some later point if you want.

It looked SO BAD that there was no way you'd be able to make it look decent without completely redoing it anyway - you carved a hole through MY hill, threw down rails where I'M planning having my Thaumlab, built a 1 block DIRT BRIDGE over Tasty's river valley, and the attempt at an overpass by mist's house was a failure.
Do it right the first time or don't do it at all - and I don't want ANY of it near my house anyway
YOU don't know where I'm going to build near my house because even I'm not sure yet, as soon as I get my basement figured out (and hopefully my lag/crash issues as well) I'll be deciding that, so please do what Rhinox says for anybody who asks - and that would include me
AND I MIGHT ADD I destroyed the parts that went near Spawn too, izak would've had a conniption
please don't do that again without it being fixed/prettified before anybody else sees it
better planning would be recommended to - you took neither the fastest nor the smartest route to each destination so it was obvious you were just slapping down rails
I didn't touch anything past mist's house or in the immediate area of the bridge the Clammy started
(WHICH BY THE WAY, did NOT require a Gravichestplate - at least if we're talking about the same place. it's like 5 blocks above a river past my house near a Fir Forest...?)
this p much sums up why i keep to myself. Anyways I have a double-chest full of LEGIT rails if anyone feels like doing something that won't get yelled at.

THATS how all of the railroad was going to look like. things like this, beautifully built. and then along the route to far away places he had ideas for like little abandoned mining settlements on the side of a mountain with a cart on a redpower circuit going around a loop of track back and forth.
So yes, when I made it it looked ugly, because I have 0 creative sense and everything I have ever made relatively decent in minecraft has been a copy or a collaboration of a bunch of other designs, so of course my basic concept looked ugly as fuck. I was going to get clammy to make it all look good.

I like the idea of a rail system and it still is one of my goals to implement one, it just takes so much resource-gathering just to get started with railcraft, and I wanted to start with something I could get into quicker. I don't want to scrap the idea entirely. I take my position as transportation director seriously
The bridge looks very nice and I hope the entire rail system can eventually look that nice. I agree with using more railcraft structures rather than just laying rails on the ground. IDC if rails are not the most efficient mode of transportation. My goal is not to connect everyone with the 1 most efficient mode of transportation, my goal is to connect people with as many different methods as possible in the most aesthtically pleasing ways I can come up with.
My road to claus isn't even the most efficient road but I tried my best to make it look good. I'm still very happy with my coastal highway and my little bridge to my house. The rail line doesn't necessarily need to follow the road. It'd probably be more interesting if it followed a different path. In my own opinion, rails should be longer straighter sections without much change in elevation (i.e. bridges and tunnels) where as roads should be constructed to follow the terrain, curvy and up and down where appropriate. That is my one piece of constructive criticism with the rails I saw is that they just seemed to be laid down as a road rather than a rail. In my humble opinion.
well my new system is a subway at y=30, so no more changes in elevation.
Inb4 people complain about a hole down to y=30 with ladders
