Typically you only claim when in danger of being voted out. Sometimes one vote away from elimination, sometimes only when you're one vote away and someone declares intent to hammer

You don't have to claim VT without a full wagon on you. If you are town it makes PRs easier to find in a game where we end up going with someone else. Claiming VT is also going to make everyone happy to compromise on you as well.

And good on ya. It's not really fair to new players to expect them to be completely clueless and to need to have everything explained to them. They can do their research! This one sure did, even if it had prior Mafia experience elsewhere.
