In post 521, xRECKONERx wrote:not as good as paradigms

In terms of sheer laughs, sure, but I actually think the premise behind this one was better (which is to say, it actually had a premise. All paradigms did was vaguely hint at the group breaking up, even though that's schmuck's bait). Which isn't to say I disliked paradigms--I loved it--but this is a little bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. Paradigms was all about how many funny memories they could concoct. This episode actually advanced the plot.

Community Characters Enter Video Game

I really dislike the misusage of "8-bit" in situations like this. 8-bit graphics = 3 colors and a transparency, not "cutesy sprite style." But that's besides the point.

I think it's used the latter way often enough that any individual instance is blameless. And I don't think it's fair to characterize it as cutesy. A lot of people have huge nostalgic attachment to that aesthetic.

Exactly this. Who cares if we get three brand-new episodes of the most original show on TV?

That video game episode was everything bad about Community: It wasn't related to Community college, it was barely related to the characters themselves (You could have put basically any characters with the Greendale 7's traits in and seen the same episode), it didn't move ANY plot forward (It brought in a character we never saw before to deal with a plotline we've never heard of before and resolved it in one), it relied completely on being meta and gimmicks, and it frankly just wasn't funny.

Luckily the other episodes were slightly better.

^I agree. The only thing it had going for it was the video gameness, which totally could have been done in some other way. It was just absurd and stupid, like some terrible movie you'd watch with your friends just to laugh at. It is like the Kickpuncher of Community episodes.

I liked it. But, I like everything.

I found it amusing. I like to see different takes on the same subject matter. How they did a video game was amusing. Also um.. Giancarlo Esposito. Fucking A. I love seeing him pop up in things.

The middle ep was more meh for me than any of them. But I loved seeing Troy finish becoming a strong man in the last episode. And it was nice seeing the real dean again.
