Texas Mafia Returns -- Game Over!

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Sun Oct 26, 2003 11:52 am

YEEEEEEE-HAW!!! Well, doggone it, there's trouble a-brewin' in the small, isolated town of San Rio Paso Grande Antonio City (Population: 12). It appears that some no-good, yellow-bellied, sneaky Eye-talians have infiltrated the town with the intent of killing off its legitimate inhabitents and then using the town's great resources for EVIL. But the locals ain't standing for that, and are fixin' to wipe out the Sicilians with the help of Big Sparky, the town electric chair. So, load up yer rifles, strap on yer six-guns, gas up yer pickups, and let's play us some TEXAS MAFIA!

STILL KICKIN'
(2/12):
Werebear (
replacing Dementia Blader, who was replacing Saigon
) -- Pirate
Flying Dutchman (
replacing bloojay
) -- Pacifist (formerly Militia Nut)

PUSHIN' UP DAISIES
:
Talitha (Doctor) -- killed Night One by the Mafia
God (Near-Sighted Old Man) -- lynched Day One by the town
mlaker (Moral Vigilante) -- killed Night Two by the Mafia, and then machine-gunned
Demeech (Gunshop Owner) -- lynched Day Two by the town
Medicated Lain (Average Texan) -- killed Night Three by the Mafia
Stewie (Mafia) - killed Night Three by machine gun fire
tehgood (Pacifist Recruiter) - killed Night Four by the Mafia
Wacky (Mafia Godfather) - lynched Day Four by the town
Untrod Tripod (Pacifist - former Half-Crazed Vigilante) - killed Night Five by the Mafia
shadyforce (Mafia) - killed Night Five by the Pirate

Game Over.

Rules for the Game (pretty standard):

- During the Day, you may vote to lynch a player. Votes must be in bold, in the form
vote: that guy

- If you wish to change votes, please do so in the following manner:
unvote: that guy, vote: this other guy
. This is not strictly necessary, but helps other players keep track of what's going on.

- You may also
vote: no lynch
. No-lynch votes are treated exactly like regular votes. If a majority of players vote for no lynch, then there will be no lynch, and Night will fall.

- Nights will last no longer than 72 hours. If you do not send me a choice in that time, no choice will be made. Early night choices are more than welcome, as I like to end Night as soon as possible

- If you will be away from the game for three RL days or more, please notify me. If you will be away for significantly longer, you will probably need to be replaced. The earlier you tell me about absences, the easier the game will run.

- No quoting the mod. Do not quote role PMs or any other information I may send you.

- Do not edit or delete posts.

- Do not post in the thread after you die.

- Do not communicate with other players about this game outside of the thread, unless your role allows it.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask me for clarification. Remember -- It's better to ask forgiveness than to seek permission, but it's much better to seek permission than to get mod-killed.

NOTICE: If you're reading this thread, but aren't actually one of the players, why not sign on and help analyze the game to death? Email me at captainsmafia (at) yahoo.com for the scheme, role assignments, and a summary of what happened last time it was run. Then send me your guesses about how you think it will turn out THIS time. Prizes will be awarded for the remarkably psychic.

As the morning sun rises over San Rio Paso Grande Antonio City, the townsfolk slowly begin their morning routine. However, that routine is quickly disrupted with the news of a dead body lying in the middle of the town. The whole town (all 11 of them) come a-runnin', only to find Doctor Talitha face-down in the town square, with a bullet-hole in her back. Resting on the body is a note which reads as follows:

Our deepest apologies.... We were aiming for the head.

Sincerely,
the Cosa Nostra

P.S. Leave San Rio Paso Grande Antonio City if you value your life. Capiche?

"This looks like the work of the MAFIA!" cries that guy who always yells out the really obvious things that everyone else has already figured out, as if it's some great nugget of wisdom. The town gives him a withering glare, but then turns to business.... who has done this terrible deed?

Talitha (Doctor), has been killed by the Mafia.

With 11 alive, it takes 6 votes to fire up Big Sparky

The game begins.... wait for it.... wait for it.........

NOW!

Random vote: Genku
, because I associate his name with Talitha.

And this probably means there's no SK or the doc was lucky, so I guess that is a good thing. Hopefully there's a backup doc somewhere too.

Randomvote: Medicated Lain

By the way, just wanted to point something out, and this is as good a place as any.

I'm feeling a few anti-sicillian vibes on this site :D , I mean sicillians are really nice people most of the time, and I should know because I'm sicillian. I mean we're not all in the mafia, honestly. In my entire family there's only one mafia member, and he's a filthy rich mafia boss in New York so he doesn't count as a Sicillian. :)

So for the closing statement I'd like to say: Minchja, ma chi facistu? Schimunidzu, veni qa. Mi sentisti? A purtasti a testa? :D

Oh, you don't understand Sicilian? Let me translate that to Italian then: Porka madonna, Ma che fai? Idiota, vieni qua. Mi senti? Ma ti porti la testa? :D

Only ONE? My family has..... zero! Then again, I'm not sicillian.

In any event, I find it strange that Saigon would point this out in this thread of all the games he may or may not have been in, so I'm going to Fos: Saigon, for speaking Eye-talian.

From what I can guess, Pork Woman [are you a?] Fascist?, Idiot, come [here?], my sentiments: a port a test.

I just hate those tests too... I think I'll go check out babelfish now...

(Babelfish):
Italian: Porka madonna, But that you make? Idiot, you come here. You feel to me? But you carry you the head?
French: You are a small good man of snow
lol. Don't we have a... what is it called... "gam"? "gamete"? No... whatever to um... plaid...plate... I can't remember.

What a stupid statement. Would I really be stupid enough to go and kill Talitha day one knowing that everyone here probably knows about the Talitha/Genku connection? I think it's a pretty stupid statement and a very lame attempt to get people to vote for me.

FOS: Wacky for that.

You do realise that that was the first post of Day 1 and that all votes are essentially random at that point? Isn't that overreacting just a little?

Saigon: So what does it mean? I feel like I'm missing some information that other people are getting.

Usually random votes don't have a reason.. if you want to vote me, vote for me either randomly or for a reason.. but not both.. At least come right out and say why you voted for me instead of being sneaky

genku: I DID say the reason. Allow me to explain something to you:

DISSERTION ON RANDOM VOTING:

1st day random votes are rarely, purely random. They usually have some kind of gut feeling, or any other reason that doesn't really justify a full, normal sort of vote, hence "random" being tacked on the end. I voted for you because, at that point, there was no real information other than that Talitha was killed. If this was a blind game, my random vote would really be whoever's name/avatar I like least, but this isn't one. The chance that you would kill Talitha is just a little higher than everyone else, hence I "random" voted you (because the slight difference doesn't justify a vote in normal circumstances) and gave the reason as well.

(e.g. bloojay's random vote also fits the bill - just voting for someone whom they think would have just a little more chance of being scum or that they don't like the content of, and calling it random)

In fact, there was a post by some reputable source in a game I read once on the same subject, but I can't remember where it is. Basically it said that a purely random vote is a bad play because it contributes nothing.

Another example would be Masquerade Mafia on mtgnews where carpo randomly voted himself using the built in dice roll (lucky him). Apart from giving me a chuckle it didn't do much for anything.

Normal people just do the random voting and keep the reason to themselves. I'm not normal though, as you may have noticed.

So I think, you overreacted, but it appears that your behaviour could well be attributable to a lack of familiarity with the conventions of mafia. Or it could be that you are scum... don't really know. But you remain the (slightly higher) most probable to be scum at this moment in time, hence I'm still voting for you.
...whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.

Nah, if I was scum I'd just shut up and ignore it. I just don't like getting votes, especially without reason so I got kind of defensive, I guess. I just don't think having my name associated with Talitha is a good reason for a vote but you are correct, it is day one so most of the votes are going to be like that.

But what should I have done? Every time I get voted, I do that.. if I don't even respond, I look guilty... if I say I'm not a bad guy, there is no way for them to believe me so I look guilty.. If I defend myself, I look guilty.
