Seattle/NW US Scummer Thread

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu May 26, 2016 5:07 pm

Post by GreyICE »

Apparently there's a bunch of scummers in the NW including Cephrir, STD, Mastin, and Malakittens (I think? Going off memory).

Me and LLD go to a board game night at uncle games on Fridays - http://www.unclesgames.com/redmond/#sth ... dGCVq.dpbs

We're also always looking to organize some puzzle room adventures (did some with Vi last time Vi was here, but you typically need like 4-8 for most of them).

So! Who else is hiding in this area?

I have never been to Seattle. I would love to go sometime.

I hope your thread is a success for my eventual visiting.

I might be in town on the 24th of June with my sister. I'll let you all know and will probably swing by that game night if that's the case!

Well you already know I'm here.

If you make a specific date where a bunch of scummers are definitely-or-at-least-highly-probably coming, then I'd be there no matter what.

I'm in Vancouver, so it's a bit of a drive, but I could conspire to come up for a weekend or whatever if there's sufficient cause.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

Speaking of this, if any of the Seattle regulars are free tonight, GreyICE/Hebichan/I will be at Uncle's Games for board games tonight.

^I can't go tonight (I have a family obligation), and probably can't go next week, but there's a chance I may have an opportunity two weeks from now, if current plans hold true. Don't get your hopes too terribly high, though. My schedule's a bit of a bitch and I rarely can promise these things in advance for good reason.

Family obligations suck.

I probably could go if I gave my family enough advanced warning, but half a day is definitely not enough advanced warning. :?

So if there's interest here in Seattle I'm going to start up a Mage: The Ascension Campaign. Probably run Saturdays or Sundays. I don't know if anyone here will be interested, but figured I'd toss it out and see if anyone was. Probably a hard limit of 5 players, 4 preferred. No systems knowledge required.

For those unfamiliar, it's a system set in modern times where you're playing Mages, people with the ability to see and manipulate fundamental parts of reality. Magic is very freeform - you can spontaneously do any number of effects - and the system is not combat focused.

I might be interested. I like the "not combat focused" part. I've only had mediocre D&D groups ever, but I have memories of half hour bursts of fun roleplaying interrupted by three-hour encounters full of boring.

Yeah, combat (when it happens) in Mage is not like D&D. D&D has the weird "fade to black" combat which is basically like Final Fantasy - you're wandering around doing things, then all of a sudden you hit a monster and bam, all the rules change and you're doing something different. Mage it's not even really anything like that - you're breaking into a secured army base to see if the container they brought in really was just a sea creature and not something breaking through from the Umbra and are just prying open the container quietly when you hear a guard yell "Hey! What are you doing over there?" You're then running through the building, desperately trying to catch a glimpse and get out without being shot.

Actually just standing there and hitting each other with swords isn't ever something that happens. For one, swords hurt and it turns out it's really easy to die in like one hit if you try that. For another, most of your enemies have better things to carry than swords - like eye lasers or fireballs or things that are just downright NASTY. Avoiding it is usually recommended for people who enjoy having a healthy lifespan.

My knowledge of Mage: The Ascension is limited to extensive TVTropes browsing.
But...
I'm free on Saturdays almost every week. For Sundays, I could probably make any afternoon session, if it was at 2 pm or later or so. (I work on Sundays 'til 1.)
So for that reason alone, if you gave me a time and date, I'd be there unless I had a prior obligation. (I may be hiking this Saturday for instance.)

We'd probably be like 6-8 hours tops. I'm thinking Sunday, maybe at a game store that's centrally located? I know Mastin is north of Seattle, and we're in Renton, so what's a good point people can reach easily?

We're pretty central (Kirkland) and could meet anywhere.

That may be a little long for me but I'd be willing to give it a shot though i don't think i can make this Sunday. I also can't guarantee availability every Sunday.

I can meet anywhere. But apparently, it's an hour and a half for the drivetime for Seattle, which would be 2:30 at the earliest that I could get there. That's easily doable.

I work in Seattle. Availability will be limited for some time while househunting, though.
