My availability's spotty today, but I'd definitely support LIMOUSINE and THEATER, in that order. Won't be able to dive deeper until tomorrow.

All right, let's dig in now.

Four words left. We know three of them tie into SOPHISTICATED, and one does not.

We also know three of them tie into BIOTICS, and one does not. I think it's a safe assumption that the breakdown is:

Two match with both BIOTICS and SOPHISTICATED.
One matches with BIOTICS but *not* SOPHISTICATED.
One matches with SOPHISTICATED but *not* BIOTICS.

(Yeah, theoretically, it could be three dual matches and one totally unclued word, but it isn't, because in what world does our codemaster fail to clue the one word they haven't clued yet?)

So I'm having second thoughts about LIMOUSINE / THEATER, as I don't see how either word connects to BIOTICS.

ROSE is sounding better and better by the minute, as I think ROSE could hit both clues - at least if we stretch BIOTICS to "living things."
BUG pretty much has to be the "not-sophisticated" BIOTICS.
I think one of LIMOUSINE / THEATER fills the "not-biotics" SOPHISTICATED, but one of them is out, and I'm not sure which.

Only other thing I can think of is what lilith thought earlier - DUCK.

So I'm at ROSE = BUG > (LIMOUSINE / THEATER) > DUCK right now.

Menalque's argument about status possibly matching LIMOUSINE makes sense - but BUG could also be a STATUS hit (status of a bug report).

I don't think we should overthink this, I think it's hard for sophisticated to not be cluing both of LIMOUSINE and THEATRE

I'm submitting limousine and we can debate theatre more later, but I think we all had the thought that it matches + I really don't see how it can be /not/ limousine with a clue like that

i'm wondering if our next guess should be bug, as that still feels like a biotics word. but also uh, assuming bug's a hit, we're still missing two of those? as i don't think limo makes sense as a biotics word? but then what does...

like we all immediately thought "okay, limousine, theatre + 1" on sophisticated

I think that means it's v likely right

I strongly object to this.

It isn't overthinking to ask how THEATRE fits in with BIOTICS - because if Theatre is right, it pretty much has to fit Biotics. (Or an explanation as to how LIMOUSINE fits Biotics would work too.)

but then again i also don't see how *anything* other than bug properly adds into biotics, so.

The most recent clue is the most relevant, we were clearly confused on biotics so maybe theatre connects in some way we’re not seeing because we don’t have enough collective knowledge to make the connection? But we were confident on bug, so I think that’s likely it, and I think Bulge figured we’d guess that so decided to give us a 3 that would let us close out the game

Also theatre could be “operating theatre” which is a stretch, but I don’t think it’s any more of a stretch than duck is for sophisticated

I also really think we should consider olive, which is a fairly sophisticated nibble food and is used in things like martinis which definitely fit the bill for sophisticated

Operating theatre ... okay, that's a possibility. Agreed that it's a stretch, but also agreed that we're working with a lot of stretches in general.

My picture of olives tends to lean away from sophistication - yeah, your portrayal is a good one, but there's also the portrayal of cheap black olives in a can. The sort you'd find on a pizza, or the sort I cut up all the time for various dishes (that have no sophistication in them whatsoever). DUCK I think has a stronger connection to sophistication - or maybe less diluted might be a better way of phrasing it? Could be a cultural perspective, though - and for all I know there's another cultural perspective where olives are only served with the finest cuisine while duck is used for slop.

I'll withdraw the strong objection to guessing THEATRE at all, but still think we should at least do BUG first before we go there.

I think I actually changed my mind and don't like theater for us. I like bug the most for biotics.

Yes, although as far as sophistication goes I wouldn't rank dogs very highly. (I'm sure some would disagree with this.)

Just gonna explain for newer players:

Rather than giving a number, a spymaster may say Infinity.

This gives you as many guesses as you wish on the particular clue but you do not know how many words are relating to the clue given, you do know that at least 1 word will be related.

The purpose of this is to allow you the extra guesses to pick up any previous words from previous clues


An alternative clue type is 0, a clue master may say the word and then 0, this also gives you unlimited guesses but the clue given relates to none of your words.


By unlimited guesses, it's until you get a guess wrong as per normal guessing rules
