At a general level, you exhibited a tell I call "new player awkward entrance" (the name is awkward, too, I know). Basically, new scum get their role pm, and everything they think of saying to open the game feels awkward af to them. The result is a stilted entrance, much like the one you exhibited. This awkwardness tends to calm down after a bit of not being caught, so it's easiest to see at the start of the game.

A subset of that is the "Hey guys!" tell. Again, this is only for fresh players. For whatever reason, new scum players are statistically significantly more likely than new town players to greet the entire thread. e.g., "hey guys!" "Hello!" "Hi everyone." "Whats up guys"

This doesn't apply to individual greetings like "Hey TTTT!" or "RCE, GS, nice to see you again"

I didn't want to out it until everyone had given an entrance, but i think that's the case. And either way, it's time to get this show on the road.

yeah, like i said, false positives happen a lot. according to our resident mafia phd, the "hey guys" tell for newbies is the single strongest wording based tell found yet (he analyzed 1k games trying to find alignment-indicative wording)

even so, it basically comes out as like a 40%ish chance of coming from scum as compared to the rand (2/8 from a town perspective, or 25%)

so it's seriously scum-indicative, but it's far from perfect.

If you're town, the best advice i can give you is to ask questions, engage with people, and do your best to find scum

in my experience, that's the most effective way to get bad scum reads off your back

Eggs, in the very beginning I thought you might be scum because you seemed needlessly argumentative. My feel on that has changed since then and I think you are town trying to get to the bottom of the matter. I also think that Salad is town. The part that I'm having trouble with is reading all the posts then picking out WHY.

It's mostly because you two seem good at the investigative process.

When you're looking at this thread, go to the bottom of the page. There is an option where you can choose multiple players to iso at the same time

So I've not been liking TTTT and Voted more than anyone. Salad's been mostly silent the first pages and Alexander(?) hasn't been present in any way, shape or form. Hard to get a read on anyone when they say nothing. I like Eggs and Enigma most as town with Person a close third. Why? Voted and TTTT have thrown accusations without a ton a reference or explanation behind it. TTTT's pointing at me ruffled my feathers and I ask the town overlook my rocky beginning and not assume that my buffoonery is indicative of scummy behavior.

TTTT and I are voting you for the same reason. What about his play makes him scummy, while my play makes me townie?

There's definitely some IIOA in sham's recent recap, which is generally scummy, but there's also some actual analysis. I think I'm town reading this switch in post style/content, though. The change may have come about because of coaching by an experienced player, but if that were the case I think we'd see less IIOA. I'm inclined to believe that sham is just quickly adjusting to the expectations this site has for players.

TTTT is an SE so if they're a team as I'm speculating, here is something else to tie this team and this idea together. Am I reading too much into this, townies? Also, I cannot discount Voted's early fixation with Eggs.

You could be right on voted. Usually new player scum like to push for SE lynches if they take a stand on it at all. But I could see a savvy player going the opposite direction.

Grand Sham I think trying gets him some slack. I'm not totally sold on the point URAP is making in #223 in that it could be town or scum sham quickly adjusting to expectations, but I agree enough to prefer to give some more time.

ah, I may have said that poorly. I think he's town who is quickly adjusting to expectations. I was comparing that to a situation in which scum!sham is being coached by someone in their scum pt. In that situation, I think we would have seen less IIOA.

Alexander my one point for him as town is #110 where he seems to be challenging Voted's motivation which struck me as a towny thing to do. Other than that his ISO has no redeeming features.
