Agree with Oman. It would take something special for that. CES loves his latin, which would make that viable source, but general grammar policing probably isn't great.

i guess it's honest, and I have nothing against Agar, but it's not really a good title. It's not like if he acted like nothing was amiss he had suddenly won the award.

I'm not a fan of Vamilla Townie. I don't think it's particularly funny, and I think it's moved away from why GreyICE is getting the title. I also kind of hate turning Miller into Milla.

Here was my reasoning then as it is now:
Titles should be for things that happen on MS, not things that happen in "real life." There's a question when the two overlap whether it's enough to really make it something that happened on MS. Brandi came in and made a drunken post in MS that was kind of funny. If this discussion had been about Brandi getting a title for it, I think I'd have less of a problem.
But it seems to me that using Brandi's thread is really just a way to shoe-horn a meet-up based title onto Singer.
Don't get me wrong: I think meet ups serve a vital part in strengthening community bonds. I nominated singer because of the meet up for a scummy, for example. But it seems inappropriate to start adding titles because of funny stuff that happened off site, even if it involves many of the people from the site.

First, for someone who routinely gives posting advice, why go for the "you're a moron" line for some hypothetical conversation you're having?
Second, was there an attempt to quantify it?
Personally, I think the idea of a centralized title system with approvals, etc. may have outlived its purpose. We've become so stingy about what counts or not (and I am aware that what I'm saying is part of that) that we'd be better served to just let people pick their own titles so long as they're not offensive. I know part of the charm is that the title represents that you're recognized as "part" of the site, but I don't know if it's worth it.

Well, for better or worse titles seem to be more than just forms of expression. The mere fact someone has one seems to be at least as important as what it says to some people. In that way, it's more of a badge than an expressive statement.

Glork's wasn't made just because he was good at the game. My understanding is that it became an ongoing joke that if Glork was alive D2 it was because he was scum because Glork was so good at nailing scum that no scum team would leave him alive. That meant he got NKed N1 a ton. That's different than just "being good."

no. I think that just confuses matters, and subtlety is a crucial ingredient of the humor in any event.
also, keep in mind that this is drmyshotgun's title, not drmyshottyizsik's title, so having misspelled words in the title doesn't look right. It's not that drmyshotgun uses poor grammar or whatever.

I wish people would stop being so damn stingy with titles. They aren't awards. They aren't really "earned" or not. It's just when we have a good title for you, you get one. I don't mind if we avoid giving people titles for being BAD (see Reapercharlie's many attempts to get a title), but I'm tired of this thought that you have to be some sort of grizzled veteran to earn one. Yes, this means that sometimes someone who's been here a few months will get one when someone who's been here for years hasn't, but that's not really the point.

Do we really need to rehash the Blacklist thing again, saulres? If what you're saying relates to an ongoing game, you shouldn't post about it until the game is over.

I dunno. I think the title is appropriate for RC. As for being appropriate or not, RC is (I believe) gay, so it's not like we're really trying to say he's a true ladies man.

Serious question: does anyone know how many new titles have been approved since the crash? I count exactly one, Amrun's. But it's possible some have been changed without Oman mentioning it. At one point he mentioned four or five had potential but I dont' think those were approved.

I don't think we should be shy in offering new titles for people. But on the other hand, if we're really only going to approve 1 new title every 6 months, I guess that's not the best use of time.

It's also a (not so) subtle reference to the Mongol Empire's dimensions. "

I think you've got things confused. You seem to be under the impression that everyone else is searching hard to find a title you'll like. That's just not true.
Titles are like nicknames, and the thing about nicknames is you can't give one to yourself. It was okay when you were just participating and riffing off of other people's suggestions, whether or not some people think otherwise. But to my knowledge, you're the only person who really refers to yourself as "Potato" or whatever. And that's certainly the case here. No one has said the word potato in this entire thread.

Mishion Imashable is good. Wish there was a p in the second word somehow, but I think it works as is.
I like the simpler "Goddammit" for Kdowns, but I'm afraid that comes across as kdowns being grumpy or something. So Goddammit, kdowns works.
Can someone explain to me the whole whore=KK thing?
