Tenatively /in ... probably as hydra Reasonably Rational with Cerberus, presuming he agrees.

I have a move across country rapidly approaching, so there's going to be a chunk of time at some point where I'll be totally off site. Just saying so from the outset before I could possibly have any idea what role/faction I'll be, because there are people who don't understand that activity is NAI for me, and it will be hard for someone to say I'm just scum making an excuse to lurk when I can link to this post.

There are a bunch of people who couldn't commit that I wish could play. This thread is full of basically all of my favorite people on this site.

And hooray Cerb is in so we're for sure in as Reasonably Rational Mastin.

Is there anyone who wants in and wants to hydra with us to see our process maybe? I think given that I am guaranteed to be gone for at least a week during this game, that would help Cerb not have to keep up with the post rate alone ... plus I know that our approach is different than almost everyone else on site, so someone could see behind the curtain, as it were, maybe learn a little from us and (hopefully!!!!!) be able to help us adapt what we do to other strategies so that our approach doesn't take as much time as it does currently, because one of the reasons we hydra is the absurd amount of time we both spend solo, and it's a lot easier to check each other and split the load.

So yeah ... that's a thing that could be a thing if someone was interested.

All members of a hydra are responsible for everything the hydra says. The excuse "I didn't say that" is meaningless. If you hydra with someone, you are one slot and that's that. Hydra dissonance is not a thing that anyone wants to deal with.

I obviously would like to be part of a 3-person hydra, and I think it should bring only upside in this case. Bins wanted to play but not alone because a game with this much interest and this many slots and the mechanics that we know about (let alone the stuff we won't know about) is pretty overwhelming. Cerb and I are basically indistinguishable from one another in approach. It can only be a good thing for us to learn from Bins.

I mean seriously ... imagine Cerb and I being able to be effective earlier in the game, as well as having more tools to use than just the various methods of rationality and applications of Bayes Theorem and our own particular chosen forms of decision theory. Imagine Cerberus and I able to get our point across convincing and succinctly.

I would think just that last bit would make half the player list cheer, LOL.

To me... I think Mastin should just decide because it's her game and if something goes wrong she has to handle it. Obviously numbers much higher have been hilariously bad in the past; however, I think there's only one or two hydras that want to have a 3rd person, and I think Cerb and I have shown that we aren't throwing out hydra dissonance and that we put in the effort and work so that we play seamlessly together as one slot without most of the problems people usually cite as reasons they oppose hydras in general.

And there's also Bins, who is a super pleasant person to play with, and the summaries and analysis that Cerberus and I do as the game progresses should be a pretty solid mechanism to help her keep from falling behind, while her approach to Mafia is something we could really stand to learn a lot from. Shoot... we could learn a lot from most of this player list.

I mean ... this player list is going to produce a LOT of posts. I can easily see this going 12,000+ posts.

Not going to lie to you FA ... sometimes your posting seems nonsensical to me ... but you aren't unpleasant to play with. There is a thing that is really helpful to know: there is not a human being who ever lived who was liked by every other human being they came into contact with. Don't waste time worrying about the people who don't like you or get you, and just have fun with the people who do.

Only post when there's something worth saying. Or if everything has gone to shit and there's a PT for the game where everyone can metaphorically projectile shit all over each other for the benefit of everyone who ever gets curious and looks later. Or for the people stuck in that PT who get barraged with all the projectile shitting that misses the intended target and covers them.

But otherwise... no need to post.

If there was a way to be certain, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make the top 99.9% though. For reals.

Play nice ABR. People don't uproot their lives and move 1/4 the way across a continent very often. I refresh a lot and Cerb still constantly surprises me. I have never once dropped a note to him about something in a game into our slack and had it be a surprise to him. Posts less than a minute old that I'm alerting him to he'll have already read. Unless he's asleep.

I agree...I think its fair that the other 3 head hydra, but cerb is as active as I am. In a 3 head hydra he wont have any downtime at all. If its someone like Toog that hydras, totally fine...but someone as active as cerb and drixx, thats like playing against an entire team, not one slot. I need a team to compete against a team.
It is true that Cerb is super active, and unless it's D&D night or something in my RL needs attention (or I'm sick, which is just a thing that happens because Spinal injuries suck), I'm also pretty active. When I'm not active, it's NAI, but me being not active has been rare enough that when it happens I almost always get lynched because people refuse to believe that going inactive is NAI for me. I don't lurk as a strategy. The whole point of the game is to play.

So yeah ... you have a solid point here.

We don't actually schedule shifts, man. Like ... there's pretty clear periods of time where both of us are sleeping. If it's normal awake time for North America; however, one or both of us is probably refreshing pretty often and keeping up. When we hydra, it's always in a large and the posts always pile up quickly and we take notes and such because otherwise you just get overwhelmed super fast. I totally recommend that everyone note things that seem important or potentially important. Even just a notepad file with post numbers and a quick sentence is super helpful months later (3-4 day phases in this game) to keep you from having to slog through thousands of posts to find what you are looking for.

That's probably the primary reason Cerb and I play as RR in games. We both take good notes and think similarly enough that we can be reasonably acceptable at the game, whereas individually I'm just really fucking terrible.

I personally think you're maybe overstating it a bit. Any hydra with Cerberus in it is basically going to be as active as Cerberus. I cannot even come close to matching his pace and endurance, and Bins specifically was wanting to play with us because it will help lessen the overwhelmed feeling of 5,000+ posts the first day phase.

That said ... Cerb is a beast in terms of activity, and I'm not a slouch... and it's totally and absolutely reasonable for you to feel like there might be a mechanical advantage there (Even if I think you're playing it up a bit), so I'm totes cool if we have a 3x3 situation. I will kind of laugh if all three of the triple-hydrae end up on the same team though, especially if we all roll scum.

I think most of that is tongue in cheek. At least... the big post I just made replying to people was all firmly tongue in cheek (except the part about me being bad. I'm really bad.).

My advice (for whatever it is or isn't worth) is just to keep a notepad file for the game and just note a post number and what about the post struck you as possibly important. It will help you find things later in the game. (Even if you die early, the first day of this game is almost certainly going to have 5,000+ posts, and the first two days could approach 8,000 pretty easily, if prior games of this many players is any indication).

For our part (Cerberus, Drixx, Bins), we'll probably talk a lot more on slack and try and keep from adding too many posts to the game. If we need to say something, we will obviously ... but we can avoid fluff and spam posting.
