I'm interested to see if there're enough semi-retro GBA fans here to run aMini (or Large?!?) Theme game. I'm thinking about one interesting mechanic having to do with scum fakeclaiming and some special town-powers to balance it, but other than that it'd just be flavorfilled. Please PM me if interested in sharing ideas or in hearing my own!Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword-

Also, Iamaware of Vi's ongoing Large Theme "Mafia Behind the Maiden," and though the flavor sources are related, anybody who knows both of these games will know that the games themselves are completely different. I thought that perhaps there might be interest in FE7 Mafia since there was obviously enough interest for FE9.-

^ Do this and I will /pre-in.
Also...I'll officially be qualified to run it after my sigged game finishes, but how do I request permission to pick up a concept previously abandoned after a Mod flaked?
For the specific situation, note that I am referring to Zajnet's Golden Sun Mafia - abandoned before Role PM's were even sent out during confirmation.
It will take quite awhile to make my way up through the Coney Island queue, but at this point I believe there'd still be enough interest and if Zajnet's out there I'd love to hear what he had in mind for the Setup.
Any other takers who'd be interested in about (oh, say) 3-4 months?-

WRT the "confirming 3 players" thing...the way I read it was that it was sortof like a mass-RoleCop that is told to the whole game BUT 1) nobody knows which player goes with which Role, and 2) only the Scum know which Compound was outed, unless one of the outed Roles is a unique Town PR (and even then, only the PR themselves would know that it was their compound because only they know that they're the one who's the unique Town PR).
VERY cool Setup idea. I think anything that forces Town and Scum to bargain "lynching" trade-offs would be fascinating.
e.g. Chemist outs Compound 2, which only has 1 Mafia in it. Scum wanted to know if there were PR's in that Compound. At the next Daystart, Town knows there are (let's say) 2 PR's in Compound 2, but so do Scum. Now Town can bargain on the PR's using their antidotes to gas the whole Compound and kill the Scum, while Scum can hope that Town allow the unidentified Scum in Compound 2 to survive so they can pick off the PR's later. Other cool situations would be possible as well...would be very interested in seeing this run.
Hope I'm reading that right...-

In post 3651, IceGuy wrote:Two ideas I've been thinking about, as an extension of the Executioner/King mechanic:
Council(Mini or Large Theme)
Town elects two people to serve on the council, scum selects one. The council meets and decides about the lynch.
Proportional Representation(Large Theme)
This is a bit more complicated, but here is how it would go down:
Candidacy phase
This would be the main Day phase. In this phase, parties form. A party forms by an application of at least three players. Players can join parties if the majority of the party approves of them and can leave parties by simple declaration. Parties have a QT where all party members can talk at any time.
Alternatively, players can choose to run as an independent, or endorse a party or independent either publicly or non-publicly.
After all players have either joined a party or sent in their choice to run or endorse (or when deadline hits), the candidacy phase is closed.
Distribution of the seats
A parliament with a small number of players is formed by the D'Hondt method (with random selections if necessary). The number of votes for a party or independent is the sum of the number of members and the number of endorsements. Seats that go to a party go to random party members; if a party would get more seats than the number of members (or an independent would get more than one seat), the seat is filled by the next party (or left empty if no other possibility).
Decision phase
The parliament now gets to decide on everything by a simple vote: player(s) getting killed, but also all other town actions.
The part where I'm unsure of how is how parliamentary meetings would go down. This could be completely open (in-thread, everybody can talk but only MPs can vote) to completely closed (QT) to something in-between (in-thread but only MPs can talk).
What do you think, and was this ever run before?
Personally, I would love to play this.-

Would you allow players in either game to talk about the other one then?
This seems like it would be par for the experiment...
Speaking of which, given the odd "setup(s)" and the bending of a site rule, I'm guessing this would be run outside of an official queue, much like Majiffy's Audio Mafia game a few weeks ago. This sounds really interesting, and I had actually been thinking of something similar to this where the games were more intertwined - for example one game could be Reverse Mafia (with the "reviving Town" mechanic) and the other game could be regular Mafia, with more people entering the second game as the players in the first game "revived" more people. Given the Reverse Mafia "reviving" mechanic, Roles would be independent, and the other main problem with the idea is it'd be all the same players and would be wacky to setup for wincons, etc.
But I digress, I really like the idea Reck. If it bears fruit lemme know.-

I don't like that version of Priest, no, and I think the "Smalltown" kind of setup is laid out a little more workably,
but I'm probably not who you should be gauging site opinion on.
As far as those priests go, I know they're not really under discussion but I'd just like to explain that I dislike them for the same reason Vi has said he dislikes setups where Scum have no Factional Kill. I can only guess really, because I don't remember, but I seem to think he thought it was a fundamental part of the game that Scum should be able to Kill. I'll go look up wherever it was in MD that he touched on this, but basically I think that it's a fundamental part of the game that the Town be told ACCURATE information upon a person's flip, except if the setup is specifically designed to accomodate that kind of WIFOM and/or it is actively expected in a game.
Slightly-non sequitur moment: a recent Micro I played in included Death Millers when there was no mention of bastard Modding, implied or otherwise. One of the Millers in the game was lynched and flipped Goon, and the next Night the other Miller was killed and flipped correctly. In Endgame the Mod confessed he expected us to realize that the "Goon" had been a Death Miller...nowhere in my mind would that be a normal or even feasible expectation - the same principle applies (in my mind) to any role that does not flip correctly or does not flip at all.
To me it's taken away a fundmental part of the game, not to mention the fact that I think those kinds of roles only work when specifically announced or expected beyond reasonable doubt.-

I figured that's what he meant - like everybody would play with everybody else in at least one game such that there were enough miniLyLo's that there was actually a CHANCE that 1 (or maybe even 2) losses in the beginning was NOT an insta-lose
I'm guessing you'd be re-rolling between miniLyLo's, sounds like a cool idea btw-

Nonono I understand all that - I guess I was just trying to simultaneously convey 1) what my understanding was, and 2) the fact that I disagreed that single-loss elimination would be more enjoyable
this isn't baseball and there's no need to mathematically eliminate players or teams before their time - and I think you're forgetting the fact that if 1 of the people (Scum) loses, there're 2 winners to every LyLo. it might not change things TOO much but it's definitely not as "win/lose you're done you should go" as baseball or whatever
also, it's Mafia - I personally still might wanna play in those quickie LyLo's even if I can't win overall - I don't think "one and done" is the right approach-

I'm listeningSome of these are rather gimmicky, some are fairly normal setups with flavour, and some havewell-refined non-standard mechanisms.
you had me at "Shakespeare" - very interested in reviewing/coModding a Mafia "translation" of a Bard classicI also have a bunch of stuff based on individual books and plays, from Shakespeareand Chaucer to Dickens and Stoker, if there'd be any sort of interest in that (yes, we were a nerdy bunch...).
this sounds like it would be awesome, but MIGHT need to be run as some kind of special game - and yeah, big commitmentFinally, I've done something akin to a book club/Mafia game, where a book is chosen that no one has read, and a reread is (cleverly) coordinated by the mod with in-game action. That stuff takes some effort to run, as well as commitment from everyone involved, but I've had some very positive feedback the few times I have run it.-

Any interest in a Rick & Morty-themed game? Mini or Large depending on show of hands - I'm qualified to run either and I'm already thinking up a setup. Anybody who'd like to co-mod / review or something-other-than-play can PM me or whatever.-

I searched the thread and the archived wiki lists of themes before asking, so it's a shame that passed me by. I'd definitely be incorporating Season 2 stuff, and a bunch of Pocket Morty references. If the other(s) were run long enough ago that nothing from Season 2 was in them, then I'd be totally up for designing some kind of spiritual sequel, but I'd rather not repeat a theme outright or steal this out from under you, unless you'd like to see it run even if you don't have the time to do it yourself.
EDIT: Do you have a link to the other game that was run, by any chance?-

There's no protocol against it. Maybe link to a setup wiki page, if you feel like making one...? Setup specifics might be more suited to the New Setup Review thread if you're more interested in talking setup than theme.-
