Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Hold Me In Your Arms came out in '88, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Flock of Seagulls, but I think Astley has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Astley released this, Whenever You Need Someday, their most accomplished album. I feel annoyed because everyone feels surprisingly cagey and it's difficult to read. I get that it's D1 but I honestly can't tell you where people are leaning it all feels annoyingly circumstantial. Notty has a point about bloodstained and while it's not 'let's stop and rethink' it's something I believe makes me think he's town. His thinking is a bit off-spoken and comes out of nowhere but with other slots it's all rudimentary or by design. I feel like your play a little bit has been like that Ydra. I can believe that you're bored and sick of D1, but I think what the thread could use is a little bit of humility? Just saying shit cause they feel like and that's not what's 'right'. I can't read half of the game because everyone seems non-committal, because I don't really think this marci vote is something I'd consider consensus. It's just something of circumstance and the moment I pointed the equivalent of peta told me to stop overthinking which burned me a little.

Maybe the game would be less boring if things would change.

greyice is a player everyolen should be afraid of because he is adeptly skilled at doing what he does. what he does is a very aggressive attack, good defensive understanding of his positional advantages and weaknesses and utilizing all tools on deck to ensure his wincons are played to.

essentially, he plays mafia like he plays a deckbuilder. reliable is best, replicatable is better and being passive gets you nowhere but a loss.

so it's hard to read him just on what he does because he might be building for a wincon that doesn't involve you having much time alive, or even showing off to you that he's scum.

so i choose to read the negative space around him.

like, if he has good logic, bonus. But what's that logic causing in a ripple efffect around him?

Well, pressuring Unwnd as a primary entry to the game while unwnd is the top wagon doesn't garner him much town cred if unwnd is scum, but loses him a lot if unwnd is town.

this, on the other hand, is a perfectly fine idea that i debated bringing up but awsn't confident in


it's possible an ascetic cop exists in the setup. it's not guaranteed, because scum can take it to block the pick and sometimes town falls victim to the tragedy of the commons in assuming someone else will pick it instead of them, but it's useful to play under the assumption there might be one.

now, if there is a cop, it's only valuable as long as it's hidden, as once it's outed scum are going to kill it. to that end, the most useful thing the ascetic cop can do is generate clears. but it's also a problem if people don't know the clears and they get run up and the cop has to out for them

so if we agree to direct the cop and settle on a target, we get an assumed clear the next day

you obviously can't roll with this forever, you need confirmation of the cop's alignment at some point but for a couple days it makes play significantly easier

So in a world where we want those clears and to protect them

Do we start with me, GI or Unwnd?

For me, targetting Unwnd feels like a mistake because he's obvious town from my POV but given he wound up at 5 votes people clearly suspect him and it's almost worth having him as a confirmed town leader given he's taken a lot of town leadership on his shoulders.

GI is the best non-me target IMO because he's busy enough to give little content but not flake so he's gonna be able to skate if he is scum for a bit, plus he's very hard to eliminate but still a miselimination target if town (which is my suspicion?)? it's weird.

I'm a great target for this because it solidifies in everyone's head that I'm town and lets me lead. Maybe I stay alive more than one day, but just removing me from the paranoia list is a boon I think? I showed pretty clearly in HotD how dangerous it is for me to become confirmed town.

I think there is truth to what peta says about worldviews is likely healthy. There's a lot of unknown variables I don't have the answers to. Zeroing in on a team feels like working backwards. The answer is why kill Cephrir? He's a very safe kill. Probably read as town, but wasn't particularly pushing wagons hard. He'd more or less claimed his role and it wasn't a great one given the outcome of day 1. It's just a very 'lets not rock the boat' kill, and LLD probably wouldn't want to rock this boat. Even if Dunn is scum and dies today, I can't see that being a big deal for the scum team.

It's a very LLD shot. Plus, like, she's hard to read and I don't have a cop guilty on her so I have to actually do that whole "reading her" thing.

Taly mafia because they don't stand out and other people have stronger reasons to be town, whereas I don't have any reason to think they're town

Marci mafia because their play looked different as town and I've seen mafia grab tracker/jailkeeper as first pick before. They defended KingTroll yesterday in a way that didn't make sense - they acted like they had a townread there early but then kept it up later when KingTroll hadn't made any posts. I have decided that it looked like white knighting. Their vague claim today doesn't actually mean anything - they claimed their target didn't go anywhere but didn't claim a target, yet that is the reason we didn't want to eliminate them yesterday, and now there is 0 pressure there. They don't seem to have any insights today when they are not being suspected.

Bell mafia because they don't stand out to me and I like to believe they've ranked up their mafia game from being super obvious tonal difference, meaning this is within their range for being mafia to me. They have done very little and has also received little pressure for that. Like Taly I have better reasons to townread other players so they drift to the bottom. Not sure what to think about the Hypo thing yet as I think it could be a joke but they didn't do it which is weird.

Save the Dragons mafia because they keep reaching for reasons to read me as mafia and for reasons to avoid voting for Marci and I don't see them thinking about Marci despite saying they resolve. It looks like nothing has resolved to me and we will still have to decide whether we want to eliminate marci or not. I pointed out that they voted for Marci, got the claim, then immediately unvoted, despite knowing that Marci was first in the draft, and that it felt like a planned move between the two of them to relieve pressure. Also their focus has been surprisingly narrow - What have they done today besides defend themself and push me? They aren't even interested in Marci anymore unless other people prod them for info.

Let's talk about LLD. I don't really believe that LLD/GI would both be mafia together. I think that if LLD is mafia it is without GI. I do have some issues with LLD lately, mainly her day 2 play. In post 1925 LLD claims to have a hypo cop guilty on GreyIce. She first starts to break this in posts 2244 and post 2245 where she starts casing GreyIce as town.

Look, I get townies can mess up, but what was the point of LLD making a fake red check if she wasn't going to try to stick to it? She seems to have no conviction or even remember what her fake result is.

Post2247 is more breaking of this where she feels a need to defend Unwnd, where she says that she agrees with GI while he talks about having his own hypo cop guilty. LLD votes for me in post 2255. 2270 reads good but doesn't make sense. Is it

In post 2264 LLD says it is +EV for them to be voting me, because GI is hypo guiltying "and doing it strongly". First of all the strength of GI's push doesn't factor into the ev at all. Second of all Petapan hypo claimed an innocent on me, and LLD is ignoring that - it at least cancels out. Third of all LLD is breaking cop cover to do this, so we now have ~4 people who can't be cop. So this is -EV from LLD if they are town, actually.

To add onto all of that, she is slow rolling any reevaluation of me, and indeed seems to not have even read my posts because they are asking for stuff they could find in thread.

to be perfectly honest with you, i claimed a hypo cop guilty on GreyICE mostly to entice him to play, and had very little intention of following through with it if he did. I think it's well known that i have a townread on GreyICE. I thought he would be an obvious target for me if i was cop, so i hypo guiltied there with a plan

2) if he comes out swinging, i react from there

They defended KingTroll yesterday in a way that didn't make sense - they acted like they had a townread there early but then kept it up later when KingTroll hadn't made any posts. I have decided that it looked like white knighting. Their vague claim today doesn't actually mean anything - they claimed their target didn't go anywhere but didn't claim a target, yet that is the reason we didn't want to eliminate them yesterday, and now there is 0 pressure there. They don't seem to have any insights today when they are not being suspected.

Bell mafia because they don't stand out to me and I like to believe they've ranked up their mafia game from being super obvious tonal difference, meaning this is within their range for being mafia to me. They have done very little and has also received little pressure for that. Like Taly I have better reasons to townread other players so they drift to the bottom. Not sure what to think about the Hypo thing yet as I think it could be a joke but they didn't do it which is weird.

Save the Dragons mafia because they keep reaching for reasons to read me as mafia and for reasons to avoid voting for Marci and I don't see them thinking about Marci despite saying they resolve. It looks like nothing has resolved to me and we will still have to decide whether we want to eliminate marci or not. I pointed out that they voted for Marci, got the claim, then immediately unvoted, despite knowing that Marci was first in the draft, and that it felt like a planned move between the two of them to relieve pressure. Also their focus has been surprisingly narrow - What have they done today besides defend themself and push me? They aren't even interested in Marci anymore unless other people prod them for info.

i've seen it multiple times where scum divert attention away from a lightning rod townie to push other eliminations because they know that play is an easy kill. seen it and done it myself. there are certain players where you just know they're never gonna start actually playing.
