As for chess? It's quite simple. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they play chess. Certain playstyles reflect certain personality types and personality is a big part of a tool called meta. Meta when used correctly can help read just about anybody.-

Okay so I really think we should just give Mulch a post limit Day 1 and sort him after that. I feel like this is going to take up so much time and theres something else on my read on him that I don't want to say right now. We have scum we can lynch..like...jjh....

I can see why he would feel the way he did about no lynching Day 1 due to his join date as well as this being his first game in a while. The latter also explains why he didn't understand people scum reading him for advocating for one. At a glance however, I don't really like his conclusions on you and Transcend. In post 288, Mulch wrote:

I didn't like how she suddenly forgot why she voted for Zach and her scolding of Chi's 342. The former reads sort of forced and the latter is scummy since I think it's blatantly not taking context into account. I think it was obvious that Chi was trying to prevent the gamestate from getting even more toxic which is never a bad thing and usually comes from town.In post 434, Transcend wrote:walk me through that one because her analysis looks kinda genuine just not sure if i agree with some of her conclusions-

Not really in my opinion. I disagree based on her reasoning for voting Vedith. In post 445, Elena Fisher wrote:
I don't think the game state was even that toxic and I doubt that was her goal if anything it's an alibi it looked like chick trying to stop 2 people from engaging each other and trying to solve the issue. I thought I explained wanting to play chess earlier just fine. I guess I'll elaborate incase LQ or anyone else would like to try to use chess as a way to get an idea of someone's personality in order to use meta to read players in the future.
--
I definitely think how we play games can reflect how we are in other areas of our lives.
I'd say chess is a decent one for me. I competed in it for years, and it did somewhat fit with my personality. I like to understand things more than just doing what works, and if I still see a chance at winning, I generally keep fighting. I like thinking three or four steps ahead and offer little trades for the opponent on purpose that lets me outmaneuver their board. One can reasonably infer that I'm the kind of player that doesn't go by the book. They can also infer that I tend to have exceptional reads since I'm always thinking about all the possible ways scum may try to manipulate and mislead town in order to gain control of the game state.
Here are a few play styles that I feel can tell you how someone thinks and even who they are to an extent:
The Solid Player:Very patient. Minimizes risk and creates few weaknesses. Expands gradually, and waits for an opportunity to take advantage of his or her opponent’s mistakes.
The Warrior:Willing to take risks. Always looking for a way to seize the initiative. His or her favorite way to win is by sacrificing pawns or pieces and checkmating the king.
The Artist:Seeks positions rich in ideas. Willing to play the broadest array of positions. Strives for a great deal of complexity and imbalance. This gives him or her the greatest opportunity to create an original work of art.-

I wouldn't really file that under noise. Things like bitching about Steel's gimmick or continuing to talk about why I wanted to play chess is noise.
I'd file it under things I don't care about. A lot of Mulch's case is based on NAI things and I felt good about Kaboose tonally at the time so it was just sort of useless for me.-
