you should read the tower of joy scene online somewhere as it didn't make the tv show and it's fucking awesome.
i'd probably suggest you read book 1 too, there are some differences in stuff that happens/the way characters are portrayed, although maybe it's not *strictly* neccessary, it goes into more detail on stuff than the tv show for obvious reasons.
also 5th book is out 12th of July!

me/nik/ces/mina all watched the finale at goofbash together, actually, yeah.

Anyway, funny you should say that -- right before I clicked on GD, I had just set the whole first season to download. I hear the first few episodes are a little confusing, but after that it gets awesome.
depends, you're used to ensemble casts as you watch a fair bit of tv so I think you'll be able to manage it pretty well. first episodes are still very good.

Claus wrote:I read the first book a while back (2 years ago?), but the fact that NONE of the loose ends in the plots are tied by the end of the book pissed me off a bit at the time.
Specially the two exiled brothers living with "the mongols", I was really digging that thread in the story, and then the book ends and they didn't interface with the main plot AT ALL
I might give the series another chance when I get some more free time for reading.
...I've no idea what you're talkiing about with this spoiler Claus. Are you sure you're not confusing it with something else? OH, unless you mean Dany, who's a girl. And remember it's a 7 book series, so.
@ CDB: Storm is the best book, in my opinion, enjoy.

adwd review has got me hyped. probs shouldn't click if you've not read up to book 4 obviously.
Any spoilers there?
Nothing in any way major at all. Some, but like, nothing major, I'm pretty much as anti spoiler as possible. If you're being really cautious don't read it, but it doesn't reveal anything plot wise. It didn't reveal anything to me I didn't already expect/know but be safe and avoid it I guess.
To summarise: the book is fucking good and the scope is massive. Buy it >_>
Here's the blurb for those unaware, I think. not really spoilery but tidbits:
Spoiler:
From the Wall to Slaver’s Bay, the world is blighted by war and chaos. In Westeros, the War of the Five Kings continues to rumble on, as Stannis Baratheon regroups his forces at Castle Black and prepares to march against the Boltons, with the northern houses divided between the two sides. In King’s Landing, intrigue seethes as two queens prepare to stand trial. In Dorne, long-gestating plans finally start to see fruition. In the Free Cities, an army of exiles and sellswords from Westeros gathers, breaking their contracts in the hope of finally seeing home and hope again. In Slaver’s Bay, a young girl must try to unite warring factions howling for her blood, unaware that her every command sends reverberations through the balance of trade and power in the world, and even dragons may not be enough to protect her…

ah yes 'seem' inept....
'seem'
>_>
<_<
uh, it doesn't make her cowardly though, if anything it was brave... (stupid of course but brave!)

Also they keep mentioning dragons oh fuck yes please tell me there's dragons at some point. Also I know this is all fantasy-medieval-epic and shit but I'm guessing it's not quite Lord of the Rings where there's goblins and creatures and magick being used right
correct, for the most part. there's magic to some degree but it always takes a background seat.

haha yes, but it'd be worse if you wanted summer glau to show up, I mean she's instant cancellation.

Eh, there are people like that though, ya know? I mean sure it's definitely an exaggerated quirk to some degree -- and really there are parts of Tyrion I find rather deplorable but maybe this isn't the thread to discuss it cos spoilers.

In post 335, Fenchurch wrote:Joffrey was the only character I feel was transferred poorly to the screen. In the book he was part charming, part cruel. In the tv show he didn't really manage the former. (Plus it bothered me that he was not a natural blond - those dark eyebrows were distracting.)
I never really found Joffrey charming (um, idk if that sounds weird? ). I thought the actor pulled off the 'I want to punch you over and over again' thing well.
I found the Hound fairly poor in comparison to the book version - part of that was due to the fact they had Littlefinger tell his story which I was disappointed about. He seemed to get less screen time in general, compared to Book!Hound though.
Viserys was probably a far better character on screen - mostly due to the fact the actor NAILED it.
EDIT: you're not done with the book? oh yeah, there is at least one awesome scene they cut from the show you have to read!

in their prime...or at least around the time of the first book, I guess?
Spoiler:
Hound is bigger and stronger. Also, just get the feeling from what we've seen when it comes to life or death he has the edge. He beat dondarion when he was wielding a flaming sword, we saw him kill 2 men when drunk. Mina pointed out in her GTKAS he beat Jaime in jousting too in canon, but I'm more talking about sword fighting.

In post 404, Yosarian2 wrote:Hound vs. Jamie, during the first book...I'd say Jamie. Hound is stronger, but I think Jamie is the more skilled swordsman. In a joust it would be closer.
well jaime loses in the joust to him during ned's tourney, iirc?. idk i just feel the hound would be 'harder to kill', I guess. I kinda get the impression they're the best two though, and it'd probably depend on the day and all that, I just think if I had to put money on them I'd back Sandor.

well it was more the point that even when faced with his GREATEST FUCKING FEAR he could still get the job done. and jousting isn't swordfighting, yeah I agree I still think Sandor could kill Jaime though!

no it was a really bad scene and littlefinger looked like a tool

Not really outplayed. He got arrogant and then paranoid Cersei jumped on him because she's paranoid.
the outcome was pretty much as expected, he had literally nothing to gain from provoking her right there. it was just stupid. it goes against what he does.
really enjoyed tyrion/cerse, this episode felt a little all over the place but that's hardly surprising, either.
