Honestly what I hate the most is junglers that can't assess lanes at the beginning of a game and be able to tell if they and their lane teammate can win at enemy laner and jungler if a counter-gank ever happened. And then never gank for that lane unless you have clear vision of the enemy jungler or have good ward placements.

Honestly, I have only one advice for people trying to get out of bronze/silver.

Play Tryndamere.

Edit: Actually, to sweeten the deal, I'll add champs to each role that you can carry with easily.

Top - Tryndamere - Srsly, he has very few bad matchups in low elo. You start e, you push the wave at level 1 (and since it's low elo the other dude will also be pushing), you kill the first minion of the second wave, get q, e into the dude, aa a few times hoping for a crit, if he's low, ignite. If you're in a hard matchup, you try to afk farm as much as possible. In either scenario you just continue to split all game. Run ignite/tp.

Jungle - Shaco/Udyr. They basically do the same job as trynd except worse.

Mid - You have two options to with here: late game beasts like Ori/Karthus, or assassins that can pulverize games early like Kat/Akali. It kinda depends on the matchup and team comp.

ADC - Any ADC basically does the trick I guess, but safer ones like Tristana and Lucian are better since in low elo don't expect any peel.

Support - Zyra. You build a sightstone, and then all dmg. You will most likely do the most dmg at the end of the game.

The 9 points in utility are literally worthless on fizz. He doesnt need ms because he has 2 gapclosers already. He doesn't need extra "sustain
either because if you're facing a tough matchup then you should be starting flask/3 pots. In fact, in MOST matchups you should be starting flask. Let say you're facing brand for example. Taking flash means you're trading your health for his mana. If he starts Dorans/2 pots, then he's going to go oom way before you run out of sustain from the flask.

I can see the case made from the defense tree, but again, the 9 points in utility are much better seeing as his q deals 100% AD physical damage, and he autos a crapton.

Umm, seeing I'm 8-1 with him in ranked (and that one "loss" being me having to emergency leave 5mins into the game), I must be doing something right... maybe. So I guess I'll say what I'm doing.

Runes:
9 hybrid pen marks - obv, since fizz's q deals physical damage and he autos
9 flat health yellows/armor - if you're facing an ap that wouldn't try to get you out of lane by autoing, then take health, otherwise armor.
9 flat mr blues/ap - unless you're facing an ap that deals significant ap in the beginning, then take flat ap (ex. vs akali, kat, diana)
3 ap quints

Summoner spells: Ignite/Heal


You basically have to understand that Fizz is an early game champion, and without an early lead, you will fall off hard. However, his early game is VERY strong, so you shouldn't really have a problem with gaining a lead unless the enemy is playing suppppppper safe, which then means they're missing out on farm.

Most starts should be flask, unless you're sure you can kill an enemy with one to two all ins max, then start dorans.

If you're vs a meele, start w. Auto them as soon as they get into lane. I basically got fb on a diana yesterday because i just kept walking and autoing them as soon as they came to lane. It was pretty funny. If you're vs ranged, start e, wait for them to use blow their first ability (if they ever do). Lets take the brand example again. Say he uses pillar of flame (right, thats what brands starts with? idk i dont play him) to try to harass you and push the wave to gain an early lvl 2. E out of it, and go on him, auto him a few times, back, and drink flask. Keep doing these small trades where you will get out on top because of a) your damage and b) flask. At level 6 you should have no problem killing the enemy.

Build order should be sheen -> dfg -> lich bane -> ap stuff (rabadons, zhonyas, void, etc).

Mid/late game you can destroy teams with your ult. And can delete anyone squishy with dfg. Try to stay in the back and have the tanks fight it out first, then see if you can get to the backline and delete someone.

Last note: Fizz does have a high skillcap (imo) and I did play a TON of games on my smurf with him first.

So....after climbing through the B2 ladder, I've finally hit a point where we'll lose games and I just wont know why. In my last game we lost every team fight and I just couldn't see why. We were focusing right, we were CSing okay. But in the end, in every fight, we unloaded all our damage to no avail, and then just slowly walked over us.

Honestly one thing I recommended to a bronze friend that has helped him is to create a notepad page with champions in each role that he can play very well (and learn what each of them counters, which out of the ones listed is correct to pick in different situations, etc), and only play out of that pool. And open that every time you're in champ select. It helps you focus during champ select SOOO much. Because what ends up happening in lower elo is people sometimes people just pick champions based on "hunches", etc.

Here's an extremely good example (might or might not be biased because it's mine )

TOP: Ryze, Fiora, Tryndamere, Malphite, Wukong
JUNGLE: Amumu, Fiddle, Wukong, Rammus, Shaco, Hecarim
MID: Karthus, Malzhar, Fizz, Soraka, Zilean, Talon
ADC: Lucian
Support: Morgana, Zyra, Braum, Brand, Zilean, Karma

BANS: WW, Braum, Maokai, Zed, Tristana, Alistar, Fizz, Yasuo, Leona

some of it is a little outdated (raka mid being the obvious one) but you get the point.
also obviously have a main position (ex i play about 90% mid, and then 95% of it is either Karthus or Talon right now).

I really like this suggestion, and I've been trying to do something like this - though I'll admit I don't always know which champion from my list is right for a situation. Any chance you could take a look at my current list and help me out with figuring out the cases for when to pick what?

my list from best role to worst role

MID (main role): Malzahar, Orianna, Heimerdinger, Syndra, Ziggs, Akali, Rammus (vs. AD melee only)

Okay so since we're both mid mains and I'm somewhat busy, I can do a your mids vs mids for you to generally show you what you should be picking.

HOWEVER

(I can't emphasize this enough) your pick should not only be based on your lane opponent. It also depends on things like your team's front line, their team's front line, how much ap vs ad you have, how much ap vs ad they have, how many people with gap closers do you have, how many do they have, how strong is your team's late game, how strong is your team's early game, their team's early and late game, your team's cc vs their team's cc, etc etc.

For example, personally I would never pick talon into a team with a maokai, because he generally hard counters assassins extremely hard.

This also assumes that you play every one of those champions equally good. But you know yourself best, so adjust accordingly.

First, general trends:
- Syndra is the best lane bully you have in terms of harass and poking.
- Malzhar is best lane bully to deny farm and shove lane, strong late game tank buster. Note that he also does fairly well vs ad champions (by far the best from your list).
- Akali most mobile, easiest to get to backline, best roamer post-6. She's also not someone you generally want to pick VERSUS a particular lane opponent, but rather VERSUS an enemy team as a whole.
- Ziggs best champ to stall to late game (for example lets say your have a ryze top kog bot and they have a very strong mid game, dont try to fight them - tell your team to farm up and you just clear waves).
- Orianna is somewhat of a jack of all trades. But she doesn't really excel at anything necessarily. However she provides some really nice cc and engages if you have something like a zac on your team.
- Heimerdinger is a HIGHLY niche pick, and generally can be replaced with one of your other champions anyway even in the rare situations.
- You really don't need to be playing mid rammus - like ever. Again, Malzhar does fairly well vs AD meeles.

Now for actual mid vs mid. (First it's best champ to pick, second is second best, etc. Again, theoretically assuming you play them all around same level)

Vs Zed if you rush seekers then go liandry's->rylais you really shouldn't have any problem vs him. you might be building malzhar too squishy. reason he does well vs ads and general bursty heroes is his build path allows him to build tanky.

The talon matchup is admittedly very very harder. Talon will give almost every midlaner a lot of trouble, but malzhar is actually one of his closest counters. If you can land some good Qs and either have Es bounce to him or just E him you can deal with him fairly easily because he should always be chucking potions and scared to engage you. Thing is, don't be afraid to go aggro level 1/2 on Talon to establish lane dominance. Talon generally doesn't all in you till level 3.

Edit: Oh right to add to wait Ani said, if they ever DO leave lane, Malzhar actually can take towers pretty quickly compared to other APs. And in fact, Malzhar rarely gives breathing room for opponents to even roam.

yeah i had the same issue. probably stuck with it until level 15 or so, which only hurt me. Now it's pretty natural, though I'm still not great at viewing other lanes with regularity.

Honestly I think I gained a much better experience at viewing other lanes and stuff (without realizing it at the time) because I began to main Karthus around level 11-15, so I would constantly be looking at other lanes to try and snipe. Anything like Soraka, Shen, TF, and Ezreal can work also I would assume.

No, Same friends..Your mmr stays the same but you get fresh placements. So instead of having to battle through the bronze shit hole, just place 5-0 more placement matchs with your fsame friends on a new team and if you finish 4-1 or 5-0, you'll place significantly higher. A bunch of people did this last season to get gold in placements. first placement would be bronze or silver, second placement would be mid-high silver, third placement would be high silver or low gold.

Question for an orianna build.

I keep having trouble with where to go with my 5th(/6th in situational cases) item.

General build: Athene's > Rabadons/Zhonya's > Rabadon's/zhonya's (the one i missed) > Void Staff

The situational item in the build being morello's as a counter to heavy lifesteal comps/sustaining mid laners.

Well I've dropped out twice from gold and came back, and my mmr is now back to that of ~gold iv, soo yeah it's not too bad.

Edit: Also from experience I've noticed 2 things. 1) Riot claims to give you a warning when you're about to drop out, but I've never gotten one. 2) The mmr doesn't reach silver 5, as it seems to claim, I was being matched with around silver iii-iv's both times when I got dropped down. Idk.

Ryze's playstyle is extremely simply and I was playing him a bunch a while ago anyway. (when raka mid was popular I played almost nothing but soraka/ryze/karthus for like 150 games straight).

The thing about ryze is, he has either lanes he can destroy, or lanes he can get destroyed in. There really isn't any middle ground.

If you're playing the former, buy mana crystal start. If you're playing the latter, then you shouldn't have picked ryze, and if you're in the situation anyway there you're getting fucked whatever you start with because you're squishy as hell so you should probably buy mana crystal anyway to try to start stacking for tear/RoA.

That's the second decent start on ryze, and is probably the only other one (other than maybe boots in very rare situations).

Cloth 5 works much better on ryze vs champions like renekton and riven that get in your face because as ryze you shouldn't be prolonging trades where you're taking huge amounts damage.

Dorans works really well in trades that people want to take. As ryze, the only trades you ever should be taking are ones you can win (vs teemo/gnar/etc) or vs Renetkon/Riven/etc (in which they're jumping on you, so you back, heal up via the pots, and go back to poking them).

And before you tell me ryze w should always stop lee / riven in their tracks, keep in mind that lee q second proc lasts longer than snare and that riven can e+q to close the gap of ryze's w range.

Hmm honestly I think Ryze can beat Lee easy if he lets him Q him, then lets him proc it. Then w's, gets out of aa range, and smash face into keyboard. Repeat as the lee is retreating.

But doesn't hurt to start cloth 5.

Edit: Wait the last time I played Lee into Ryze I think i was able to get AAs after the snare due to the slow from e, and Ryze actually ends up losing the trades.

Karthus and Fiddle appear top tier in SV's tier list for AP.

Karthus is arguably even better than fiddle right now with the right runes (2 or 3 spellvamp quints).

Start gromp -> blue -> wolves. Back, buy. Then do raptors -> red. Then either do golems or try to gank. Level up Q->E->Q->W in most cases unless you see a very good opportunity to gank in which case take E third.

Build chilling smite (or rangers but I recommend the former in this patch) -> tear -> finish ap jungle item -> rylais -> zhonyas ->seraphs -> void/deathcap.

General advice:

You're not actually that weak to invades to most enemy junglers (as much as people think). This is mainly because Q does a crap ton of damaged since they're isolated in the jungle, and the jungle leaves everyone weak.
Try to farm up as much as possible. Though there will come times when you will have cleared all your jungle and there is still relatively long time before spawns. In which case the easiest thing you can do is try to do enemy raptors since a) karthus clears them out very quickly and b) karthus can pull the enemy raptors to his side of the map very easily with one Q from long range.
Generally keep an eye on the map after you hit 6 (as in moving camera to other people), but you should do that anyway playing karthus wherever.
Note that karthus deals A LOT of dmg to dragon due to isolated Q and E (and you can even W the drag for mr drop), but he's farily squishy. However if you have a tanky support then you can do it fairly early.

what's the build order?

Merc/Tabi -> Homeguards -> Phage -> Tri -> Frozen Heart/Visage -> Other one (unless very little AD/AP) -> Ghostblade -> Any other tank item (banshees/thornmail/randuin) or Shiv if you're really ahead.

After you get homeguards you can basically go push lane, then back and roam, and then go back and repeat. You + jungler ganking the same lane is devastating. Also don't ever auto the lane opponent early game, just go into their minion wave and Q them as it doesn't draw minion aggro. Just keep repeating that forever.

Tip is to never ever get Mobi on Hecarim no matter where you play him, as in battle it's like tier 1 boots in battle and thus gives less ad from passive.

Previous year in the ranked games I played a bunch of Gragas support. I like it, but I get it, people think you are trolling and get hostile very easily. Fine, professional risk picking that champ and all.

But when did Zyra become a Gragas-tier support? That was the champ that got me over the final hurdle last season, made my final ranking then possible. Played three ranked games with her now and the amount of hostility that spawns from just that pick is insane. It's not even that she has a bad winrate or anything.

People are generally hostile towards any support that can threaten to take kills and start dealing massive damage.

I play a bunch of lux support because I do best with her, but people can get so angry. I usually out damage most of the other champs in a given game with her, but I guess people just want classic supports where they're either super tanky (leona braum etc) or high utility (janna nami etc).

It's like the same thing as why old nidalee support was hated. She wasn't a particularly bad support because you didn't really need massive AP on her to make her spears hurt, but people with ego hated her because she threatened their position.

Given that it's you, I'm assuming Karthus? I used to play him a lot season 3, but dropped him some time last year because I struggled with the supposedly favorable Yasuo matchup, and Yasuo was like 90% ban/pick at the time. Haven't gotten back into him - is he strong right now?

I definitely rank him high up there in terms of mages, and looking at stats he does have a high winrate, around 52% (though he is in the bottom 10 in terms on pick rate, so I can't tell if that winrate is only due to mostly the karthus mains or not).

Really problem with karthus is that he has a high skill cap, and if you don't dedicate a lot of time to him then xerath/lux/malz etc would all do a much better job.

And the other problem is if you ARE willing to dedicate time to learning him, then you should probably use that time to instead learn cass, because she's much better right now

One pro though is that Karthus isn't likely to get nerfed anytime soon, so you won't be wasting time learning/playing a champ that will soon get nerfed.

Think about him like Poppy. Both very strong champions, but with a high skill cap, and both have some popular champs that do similar job better. Because of this, their playerbase is very small, thus leading to riot not really paying attention to them, while focusing on balancing the popular strong picks.

I rarely jungle, but when I support I've been buying ss later and later.

Bascially, I'm high-bronze low-silver, to give you perspective. I find a pink and my totem and MAYBE one more ward is plenty to keep me and the lane partner safe in lane. Then I pour that 800-odd gold into more combat stats and prove that I own this lane. Note that I usually play Leona or Blitz and like to fight often in lane, so it's probably a product of how I play.

I have been finding the "rush gold item level 2, rush sightstone, then gold item level 3" to be REALLY lackluster as a support. It basically trades out all combat effectiveness for the first 15 minutes or so. I dunno, could be wrong, certainly don't main support, certainly not a good player overall.

Rush sightstone > gold 2 (maybe switch order) > combat stats > gold 3 eventually maybe, is how I do it. (If I'm playing with a spellthief's, I don't even bother with level 2.) You want that sightstone for the mid/lategame more than almost any other item - vision control is the single most important part of keeping your dumbass bronze teammates alive.

I don't even bother with gold 2/gold 3 on anything thats not the coin, which is the only one that has an active worth upgrading.

I've been playing a ton of blitz and basically going relic -> mobi/sightstone -> FH/ Aegis into banner -> zz'portal.

Seriously, Banner + zz'portal splitting is too strong :p

Literally all that matters in solo queue is lane mechanics and how well you can get idiots to listen to your shot calling.

Also he feels really useless if you fall behind. And his late game dmg is very low.

Basically you have to work hard in lane to try to get a good mid game power spike and trying to snowball there.

I don't feel he's a good champion at all (especially mid). The risk and effort is really not worth the reward. Especially vs any medicore waveclearers. You can get away with playing him top and building some tanky items so at least you can be an annoying regen beast in teamfights, while also being able to bully out melee lane opponents with e aa.
