If I wanted to host an open setup that is not a standard, how would I go about doing this.

If a mod wants to run their own setup it needs to be approved by myself to ensure it's balanced/not broken. These reviews occur in the Open Setups Review thread.

I will allow experienced mods to run games that have been given a cursory check to make sure they are not broken but are not approved open setups. These games may be able to be broken or may be unbalanced and will be indicated as such.

if you want to get it in queue fast I'd suggest trying the theme queue for whatever size you are doing

I approve of this setup and mod though!

If I wanted to host an open setup that is not a standard, how would I go about doing this.

1. Write up the setup. Post about it in the Open Setups Discussion forum. Or if it's a modification to an existing setup, talk about it in Open Setup Autopsies.

2. People will comment on it. And by people I basically mean some subset of {me, mhsmith, CFJ, BBMolla} with a hint of some others. Someone will probably write a program and calculate EV. I promise to take a look!

3. Once it looks good-enough-I-guess you make a wiki page for it (lemme know if you need help with that) and just /in to mod that setup.

Out of curiositiy, why does an open setup need to be reviewed?


1) if people think it’s unbalanced, they can just not play it, right?

2) what if people want to play an unbalanced (but fun) game??

It doesn't have to be reviewed. Experienced mods can run a newly designed game so long as it isn't blatantly broken and it has a wiki page. You are encouraged to have your setup reviewed to ensure that it is balanced and not broken.

In addition, you can run an Open game in any of the Theme Queues (though Large does require a reviewer).
