Rules

General

• All side-wide and mafia-specific rules apply;
  
• Do not edit or delete your posts;
  
• Do not directly quote private communication with the moderator until the game is over. Paraphrasing is fine;
  
• Do not post in this thread unless you're a living player. The dead tell no tales (and no "bah" posts either);
  
• No encrypted, obfuscated, or hidden text. Breadcrumbs are fine;
  
• When you pretend you're breaking the rules, the mod may interpret it as you actually breaking the rules. Moreover, do not try to get others to break the rules;

Voting

• All votes must either be bolded or use vote tags, and may not be hidden or obscure. Using clear abbreviations in votes is allowed. Voting No-Lynch is allowed. Unclear votes shall be ignored;
  
• Votes may be changed or removed at any time during the day, but not during twilight;
  
• Whenever a strict majority of the players votes the same player or a simple majority of the players votes No-Lynch, the game moves on to twilight instantaneously. All living players (including the hammered player) may continue talking during twilight until the mod closes the thread.

Activity & Deadlines

• If you do not post in this thread for 48 consecutive hours during day, the mod may prod you. When you have been prodded at least three times or do not post in this thread for 72 hours, the mod may elect to replace you. This does not apply when you're V/LA;
  
• When you feel like you will not be able to play this game for a while, you may declare yourself V/LA by posting so in this thread (preferred) or by declaring yourself V/LA through your user profile. When you're V/LA, you will not get prodded or replaced based on activity. The mod may refuse to acknowledge unreasonable V/LA requests such as "V/LA for the next month";
  
• Deadlines are 11 real-life days for days and 48 hours for nights. If no majority is reached by the day deadline, a No-Lynch happens. If a hammer happens after the deadline passes but before the slowpoke mod actually closes the thread, that hammer is still valid;
  
• Deadlines, both day and night, may be extended for various reasons such as player replacement. Nights shall not be shortened even if all actions are in, except after all the theoretical potential maximum size of the masonry does not exceed 1, in which case the night may end after 24 hours if the scum night action is sent in and nobody objects. If a player gets replaced during night, the deadline shall be extended regardless of whether this player has any kind of power role.

Setup-specific

• Mafia and masons can only post in their private thread during the night, not during the day;
  
• "Town Mason" and "Recruited Mason" are strictly different roles and will flip differently;
  
• If, during the night, the scum try to kill a vanilla townie whom during the same night gets recruited by the masons, the target will flip "Recruited Mason" instead of "Vanilla Townie";
  
• The mason's single attempt to recruit will be expended even if it fails or gets wasted;
  
• Masons and mafia may not use their factional ability on their own members. Nobody is required to use their ability.

Miscellaneous

• This is a game. When you die in this game, you do not die in real life;
  
• Flavour text does not reveal anything game-related that is not already public information;
  
• These rules may be changed if the mod deems so necessary. Any changes will be clearly announced.

Day 1, start

Once upon a time, there was a small settlement in a forest a small distance away from other cities. This settlement was so small it could hardly be called a village; rather, it was a place where a few lumberjacks lived with their families. They'd chop wood in the vicinity, collect it in the settlement, and periodically had traders come to collect it.

However, one day, a few figures cloaked in white robes came to the village. They were certainly not traders; they were inquisitors.

"We have received reports of witchery abound in this forest."
The mayor-in-charge replied, "I am afraid you have come to the wrong place. Our settlement is small and certainly houses no witches."
An inquisitor sneered back, "We'll see about that."

A few days passed by while the inquisitors investigated the village. They reported finding pentagrams and satanic amulets. According to the villages, those definitely weren't here before.

"There are clear signs of witchery all over this place. There is no doubt that this village harbours several witches."
"That's not possible. If there were any witches here, we would've known already. There's no way a witch could stay hidden in this tiny place."
"Huh, so you're hiding the witches then? Tell me, where are they?"
"—That's not what I was saying at all—"
"Let me remind you that hiding witches is punishable by death. Tell me, where are the witches?!"

The inquisitors asked every resident to no avail. Then they declared publicly to everyone,

"LISTEN UP. We know there are witches here, and we know some of you are hiding them. It would be a shame if we had to kill everyone, but it would be an even bigger shame to let those witches live. So we decided the following: every day, YOU tell us somebody who is a witch, we burn them, and repeat that until ALL witches are dead. Got it? Surely none of you would want to see their friends burn to cover up for that bunch of witches,?"

Referendum: Motion to permanently extend deadlines

There's a sentiment that the deadlines are too short. It looks like I overestimated the support for shorter deadlines, which is my failure as mod.

However, currently I've only heard two players about the deadline, which is a pretty small sample size, and I shouldn't be too wishy-washy about changing the rules. The rules do after all restrict changes to only "if the mod deems so necessary" and are supposed to give a certain sense of certainity.

So I'm holding a referendum. Everyone is invited (but not required) to give their opinion about a longer deadline. I'm proposing extending the deadline to 11 real life days per game day (other proposals welcome, but this is a baseline if there is strong support for extending it but no concensus on how long.)

Opinions may be stated in this thread or PM'ed to the mod. You may lie in this thread and PM your real opinion to the mod. No votes or votecount on this referendum shall be made public, only whether the extension passed or failed.

Opinions may or may not be more complex than "for" or "against" and this referendum is more of an opinion poll than a majority rule. I'll reach a decision in approximately (expired on 2018-03-21 20:00:00).

Existence of V/LA formally acknowledged

I just realised that I hadn't written anything about V/LA in the ruleset. This was an oversight and I'd like to clarify that (1) the concept of V/LA exists, (2) when you're V/LA, you're immune to getting prodded or replaced due to inactivity, (3) some other formalisms.

This rule is not a change in policy insomuch as a clarification on the current policy: V/LA would already've been acknowledged, but the old rules might've given a different impression since they didn't mention any exceptions on the activity requirements.

New rule:

• When you feel like you will not be able to play this game for a while, you may declare yourself V/LA by posting so in this thread (preferred) or by declaring yourself V/LA through your user profile. As the sun fell, the inquisitors' patience started running dry and they pressed the town harder for answers.

"WHO ARE THE WITCHES? MAKE UP YOUR BLOODY MINDS ALREADY!"
"I KEEP TELLING YOU THAT THERE ARE NO WITCHES!"

Then the inquisitors lost their patience.

"FINE. If you won't tell us, then we'll pick one."

An inquisitor, named BuJaber, pulled a random woman out of the crowd and began tying her to the stake. The crowd was in uproar.

"KEEP YER HANDS OFF MY WIFE" one lumberjack shouted. Together with his axe he charged at the inquisitor. A few more armed villagers followed his lead, some others looked for weapons, and some ran away.

The three inquisitors sensed danger and tried to flee, but BuJaber in particular had attracted ire and quickly found himself axed into by the husband. The other two inquisitors managed to get away with the distraction provided by BuJaber, jumped on their horses, and fled the village.

Hopefully those inquisitors will never come back.

Day 2, start

Unfortunately, that was not the last that this town had seen of those inquisitors. The returned next dawn. Expecting this would happen, the villagers had prepared their axes, torches and pitchforks already. What they had not prepared for, however, whas that the inquisitors had brought along a small army of knights armed far better than they were.

"This witch is controlling the minds of the townsfolk!" declared one inquisitor, while pointing at last night's woman.

The knights kept the angry mass under control while retrieving the supposed witch, popsofctown. The inquisitors proceeded to burn her at the stake. She burnt just like any other human being, but its kind of hard to tell the difference between a burning human and a burning witch.

However, after popsofctown had been reduced to ashes, the anger of the crowd had not disappeared. Rather, it had only fired up even more. Of course this could mean only one thing: there must be more of those mind-controlling witches in there.

"Let us continue where we left off yesterday."

Day 3, start

As Gamma Emerald burned, the town was silent. However, the inquisitors were not done yet. After all, davesaz had just said something very interesting: he had just claimed to having joined a cult of witches. The inquisitors ordered him to come forward, but davesaz sensed trouble and fled. The knights chased after him, and caught up.

The knights delivered davesaz to the inquisitors.

Davesaz knew he couldn't talk his way out of this. He knew that sooner or later the inquisitors would come after him—witch or no witch. That's why he had actually associated himself with real witches: if you're going to killed sooner or later, then you'd better be prepared when the time comes. He had quickly learned and prepared a teleportation spell to get himself out of this trouble.

Unfortunately for him, it turns out that correctly reciting a spell is a whole lot more difficult when under pressure than when in a calm practice environment. His pathetic attempts at trying to use something resembling magic easily constituted all the proof the inquisitors ever needed.

The next day, something "strange" had happened. In the cementary, gavestones were put up for those who had died in the past few days. Bodies were not buried there, but there were gravestones nevertheless. This, of course, was blasphemy as witches do not go to heaven.

This quickly changed todays question from "who are the witches" to "who has put up those gravestones". This question was a whole lot easier to solve, as several people had seen GuiltyLion in the cementary at night.

GuiltyLion's wife had been executed yesterday. He didn't want her soul to have to linger around forever and wanted to give her a place to rest. To be a little bit less conspicuous, he had created graves for all the other deceased as well.

The inquisitors were not amused that GuiltyLion had dared to pay respect to those witches. GuiltyLion's defense was that "God would want the dead to be able to rest in peace." Of course, that statement was blatantly false, and god would not suffer witch-associates to live.

The inquisitors visited davesaz' parents house. Only his mother, Kmd4390 was home. Kmd4390 emotionally reacted with a mix of fear, anger, and sadness, but tried her best to hide all of those emotions. The inquisitors wondered why his dad wasn't home? Was he outside at

The sheer amount of fear, anger and sadness in her, left Kmd4390 unable to unable to form any words. However, before she even spoke up, the inquisitors noticed something else: she had a birthmark, a mark of the witch.

Proposal: Accelerating Nights

The rules currently state that nights last at least 48 hours and shall not be shortened even if all night actions are already in. The main reason for that rule, which is preventing the mafia from encroaching on the masonry's nightchat time, seems to no longer exist with the current masonry size.

Somebody has asked whether the nights could be made shorter. I propose the following system for the next night(s?).

• The night ends after 24 hours if the mafia has sent in a night action by then, otherwise the night lasts 48 hours.

Whelp. Having the day end this early is kind of inconvenient because not everyone has had time to reply to night acceleration. So I'm going to use the following system tonight:

The night ends after 24 hours if the mafia has sent in an action by then and nobody has messaged the mod they want a 48 hour night. If either the mafia hasn't sent in an action in 24 hours or somebody has told the mod they want a 48 hour night, then the night lasts 48 hours.

Tl;dr: if you want to keep 48-hour nights, just object through PM.

Day 6, start

The town's population was shrinking pretty heavily. After Green Crayons' lynching, Mathdino had the sudden revelation that nothing good could possibly happen by staying here, and prepared to move out.

That gives the question: should he move out conspicuously or inconspicuously? Would the inquisitor and knights be fine with civillians just moving out, or is it better to stay hidden at risk of being more suspicious than ever?

Mathdino decided to take his life in his own hands and tried to move out without anyone noticing. He packed his baggage lightly, checked out of the window to see whether anyone was around, and stealthily moved towards the surrounding.

"HEY? WHAT'S GOING ON THERE?"

A knight had spotted him. So much for staying unnoticed. Mathdino hesitated for a moment whether he should try to talk his way out of this, or try to outrun the knight as he wasn't burdened with heavy armor and knew the forest better.

Despite having lots of confidence in his communication ability, Mathdino remembered that arguing with the inquisitor's crew has literally never ended well, making running the statistically only viable option.

So he ran, and he ran. And he gained distance upon the knight, but then he tripped over a tree root. Mathdino wasn't the type to trip; he hadn't tripped in months. Why today of all days?

Mathdino got up as quickly as possible, but by then the knight had caught up.

"So, where were you going? Is there a witch meeting in this forest?"

Mathdino tried to explain that he just wanted to leave this cursed village. The knight didn't buy any of it and brought him back to the inquisitor.

The inquisitor interrogated Mathdino to figure out where Mathdino was planning to meet the other witches in the forest. Mathdino did not survive the interrogation.

And then, there were only townies left. Plus an inquisitor and a bunch of knights.

The inquisotor Ankamius was agitated that there were still witches left after all this. But that was going to end now. Why do this the slow way? Just kill both of them and get over with it.

"Both of you have been convicted of witchery. Knights, get them."

However, as Ankamius said that, something happened: a pack of wolves came out of the forest. It was unuasal for them to bother humans, but for whatever reason, all of them attacked Ankamius and his knights.

While the knights were preoccupied defending themselves, the unarmed inquisitor Ankamius was killed by a couple of wolves. Lacking a commander and sensing the danger of this situation, the knights retreated.

Alisae and Myloninja13 were left untouched by the wild creatures. Nevertheless, Myloninja13 fled just like knights, but in the opposite direction.

Alisae kneeled down and petted the wolf.
