If you look at the duel mechanic in the game that Spy posted it looks like parties just refers to the players in the duel. Also you have to vote for the player you want to win.

lynching doesn't speed up the day with duel mechanic. nowhere does it say that a finished duel ends the day.
The dueling mechanic seems to be a way of just allowing more lynches.
