I had been thinking encryption/decryption meant some kind of translating between letters that were in the correct

sequence

. But ofrhz is right, it actually looks a lot more like a "scramble" - the letter frequencies seem like the right ratio (don't see many Qs/Xs/Zs), and it would make sense/be fairly solvable if it's just a bunch of correct letters arranged in a different order in some pattern.

this seems to be on the right track... there's probably some system/ordering for swapping letters around and we just have to descramble. will keep thinking on this.

You know... in my second ever mafia game, one player was given a post restriction where everything he said had to be encoded in Base64. That turned out too easy to recognize and translate, so from the second day onward, the encoding was changed to this "practically unbreakable hybrid". Which, once I knew the method behind it, I cracked in five minutes.

So, this challenge should be right up my alley. Let's see now.

Solved it.

The pattern is pretty simple. You break up each line to strings of increasing length starting from one character, and reverse each string without changing their order. Add spaces and capitalization, and the message becomes this:

Let me tell you a funny story that happened to me today. I took my rabbit, Max, to the vet and said, "My rabbit is cross-eyed... is there anything you can do for her?"
"Well," says the vte, "let's have a look at her." So, he picked Max up and examined her eyes, then took her temperature.
Eventually, he said: "I'm going to have to put her down."
Naturally, I was horrified. "You're going to put her down just because she's cross-eyed?"

The "vte" on the second line is an error in the encoding. I left the last line untranslated deliberately, because we don't want to end the day when it barely started.
