Do not attack other players with hostile intent. Mafia is a game of manipulation and, as such, insults will naturally be thrown around as a method of devaluing the opinion of another player. If you make a post with broken tags, you may explicitly ask me to fix them in a new post and I will happily do so. I will not fix tags unless requested to.
You may not quote directly from any messages sent by anyone in any PTs. Copy and pasting a message is allowed as long as it is not quoted. If you do not know whether what you want to say is a quote or just paraphrasing then send me a PM asking if what you want to post is allowed.
Do not use any form of provable randomness. Claiming you did something randomly is fine as long as you cannot prove it.

Once a player has reached the requirements to be lynched, votes and unvotes will no longer be counted and the game will enter twilight. Not relevant.
During twilight, everyone can continue to post in the thread until it is closed. This includes the player who has just been lynched. Not relevant.

Failure to submit a night action before the night countdown runs out will result in your night action not being used.
Scum players may submit factional abilities on their teammates' behalf, however, any additional abilities they may have can only be submitted by the player they belong to.
You may change the target of your night action as much as you like. When the night countdown runs out, whoever you last submitted your night action on will be your target.

Once your death has been announced in the thread you will no longer be allowed to post. This includes posting in any PTs with the exception of the dead chat.
You will receive a PM when you have died which will include a link to the dead chat.
Spectators will also have access to the dead chat.
When a player dies they will be flipped.

Failure to follow these rules will result in punishments. The punishments can include warnings, force replacements, mod kills, bans from any future games I host and, in extremely rare cases, the game may have to be reset or a player may receive a ban from the entire site. Setup:
10 Unfortunates
3 Saboteurs


Mechanics:
Day start.
The scum PT is always open.
The night phase will last 48 hours where the scum team may perform a standard factional kill.

At the start of each day phase (floor) a challenge will be announced. These challenges were created before the game and had their order randomised.
Challenges may have to be completed in a certain time or will have a specific lose condition.
Players may VOTE: forfeit a challenge which may be useful for challenges with no time limit that drag on.
If the challenge is completed, a random unfortunate will secretly become a 'fortunate' at the start of the following night phase. The player chosen is randomly decided through a dice and is informed of their new role.
The scum PT will be given extra information about the challenge such as the soloution to the challenge or advice on how to prevent the challenge from being completed. It will be publically announced what type of information they are given.

Once a challenge is failed or completed, the thread will be locked and the voting phase will commence.
During this phase, each player is sent a form to fill in through PM. This will ask who you are voting for, why you are voting for them and how you would feel about being trapped (a last will).
All 3 of these questions are compulsive and can result in prods and replacements. Players may change their answers during the entire voting phase which includes prods and replacements.
Once the phase is over, everyone's answers to the first 2 questions will be posted publically which is then concluded with a final vote count. Whoever has the most votes on them will then be lynched.
If 2 or more players have the most votes on them, the tie will be resolved through picking short straws. Each 'straw' is secretly given a value in the mod PT. PMs will then be sent to each tying player asking them to pick a straw. Whoever picks the straw with the lowest value is lynched.
Each player would be asked to put the straws in order of most preferable to least preferable so that if they both pick the same straw then it will go to their 2nd choice instead. These picks cannot be changed once sent in.
Failure to pick straws may also result in prods and replacements.
The player who has been lynched will have their answer to the third question publically revealed. Players who are night killed will also have their third question answer publically revealed.
The initial voting phase will last 48 hours. However, the resolution of ties will almost certainly take up additional time (hopefully no more than another 48 hours).

Some clarification:

"Unfortunates" will always refer to players in general with flavoured text.
Everyone must start their post with the next number in basic counting from 0 to 325 like I have done with this post. Eg. the next person to post will start their post with "1".
Players may not post 7 times in a row. Your 7th post will cause the count to be reset. Additionally, if you make a 13th post on a single page then the count will also be reset. This is to prevent players from spamming the thread to reach the count.

Now is the time to ask questions about the challenge if you do not understand it.

You will fail in (expired on 2018-07-26 19:00:00)



The saboteurs will be given tips on how they can try and reset the count.

"I'm voting for Not Known 15. i'm going to take this time to just talk about all of my reads in general as i haven't had the chance to say anything yet having replaced in after the thread was already locked.

first and foremost because above all else if people take anything away from what i think maybe it should be this: myloninja is, without a single doubt in my mind, town. i know how to tell town him from scum him; i've done it before based on barely any posts. trust me; he's town. he's probably my strongest townread (this situation is just like in open 729 if you'd like to check that, although that game is something of an embarrassment for me. if you ever read this, sorry scioness)

anyways, that being said, i'm going to give somewhat of a "readslist" here and talk about it a little bit:

myloninja i've talked about. kokichi i feel pretty good about being town here - it first stood out to me reading posts 159 through 161, that he had a really relaxed and natural tone. beyond that, i think self-meta is a towntell, and i think everything he said in post 580 is a massive towntell. irrelephant is kind of just a gut townread, but it's also that i know that GL and irrelephant have played together before and GL townreads irrelephant, so looking past the scenario in which they're both scum i feel like i can trust that read there regardless of GL's alignment.

we'll come back to the "surface towny" group.

for "null", i originally actually had ofrhz as towny, but literally mid-organizing these reads it occurred to me that she really hadn't towntold as much as i thought she had. yes, 414 is a detailed post, but beyond that there really isn't all that much there. perhaps i'm just wrong here, but i tend to expect detailed thoughts from town ofrhz, but there's really just mostly counting. what really rubs me the wrong way is the lack of the progression up to the eventual NK15 vote. it comes without any prior mention or indication of an nk15 scumread and, thinking on it more, really reads to me like scum just coming to agree on a mislynch. in the process of typing this paragraph it's occurred to me that maybe "null" is the wrong word to describe my read here.

i don't think randomidget requires much explanation; i'm pretty sure there's nothing AI one way or the other about his lurking, so...

i'm really not all that happy with the "who's left" group, and it's because it contains people that i know have a tendency to get misread and perhaps mislynched. this goes back to my "surface towny" group, actually - the "surface towny" group is people whose contributions look fine on the surface, but i found it hard to actually look close and dig deep to see if it was actually towny or not. whether that's because of the counting or because i'm doing this late at night, i'm not sure. either way, the composition of my "who's left" group makes me especially paranoid of the people here.

so, that's kind of a broad overview of my reads - onto the vote, then. why nk15, after all that about paranoia reads and such? well it's two main reasons: first, despite nk15's somewhat lynchbait-y history, i don't think it's impossible that he's scum here. his post detailing his reasons for wanting to lynch pine reminds me of a few of the posts he made as scum in mini normal 1999 - i feel like they kind of match in a little bit of an awkward tone, although that could just be nk15 in general (no offense).

the second reason is just a matter of having my vote matter. i could try voting for ofrhz or someone, but it's unlikely that anyone else voted for her, so it wouldn't be meaningful. i would prefer nk15 lynched to chickadee, so if people are going to be voting chickadee then nk15 is a preferable alternative for me. additionally, despite what i said about my "who's left" group making me concerned, i don't exactly townread pine, but as compared to nk15 i don't really have any reasons for him to be scum."

"I think Enigma is our best bet for saboteur. I still really want to vote GL, or perhaps Kokichi, but Enigma is pinging me hard right and there's momentum to prosecute now. Bird in the hand versus two in the bush, I suppose.

I feel I've made my case on Enigma, but in summary, it's a lot of odd behavior that rings alarm bells on a gut level. Some of it's hard to quantify, like attitude and lack of motivation to get stuff done, but the really damning thing in my opinion is Enigma's total lack of hard positions. Practically everything has been qualified or retractable, as if they're choosing their words very carefully so as not to perturb anyone. Town oughtn't be concerned with that, they ought be concerned with detection and prosecution of their reads."

She does not feel like a townie who is genuinely invested in the game or genuinely trying to scumhunt, she is coasting, and I have no real reason to believe she is town compared to most of the other players.

I also do not want to vote for Enigma tonight, because if ofrhz is scum and if Enigma happens to be lynchbait, then I think scum will go in to vote Enigma instead. I think the angles between ofrhz-Prof Fridays-Enigma are worth noting -> ofrhz is tunneling on Prof Fridays who seems to be mostly ignoring it, Prof Fridays is defending Enigma for bizarre and hardly justifiable reasons, and Enigma has avoided commentary on both altogether. Definitely at least one scum in here if not two."

I gave my reasons in my post 1040. I considered Ofrhz, mostly because consolidating votes would help keep our fortunate secret, and because his flip would at least force people to reconsider their reads if he was town. But no. Prof Fridays is who I suspect more.

I also tried to meta read Prof Fridays, but did not find much to go on. However, looking at his performance in Fallout Mafia, which he just won after replacing in as scum, does nothing to ease my suspicion. He is apparently completely capable of masquerading as town."

"I feel much as Friday pointed out day one - shortest ever stand in. Really, 24 hours and one death post lol. That is not be cool at all. As far as the gamestate:
GL I have a town read on GL. Enigma's case on him is weak. His hunting does not feel forced to me. Lots of engagement.

Irrelepahnt Town. I like how he has been engaging and seems to be genuinely scum hunting.

Feysal Town. Not seeing anything scummy here and he feels genuine.

Kokichi Oma Scum lean. 420 felt like hedging should they want to screw up a challenge. Lots of using mechanics to scum hunt w/o actually scum hunting. Made a few good points on pine and suddenly started acting town at 733. Not sure how to take that considering the earlier posts.

Pine lean scum. The number picking was utter garbage. I tend to tunnel play that I think is garbage though so take that for what it is worth. I don't really see anything from this slot that looks like genuine town. Overall, pine seems more interested in defending themselves rather than finding scum. That is a scummy thing to do.

Enigma lean Scum. Lots of whining here and excuses for not hunting (140 complaining how the day was going to be 'boring') feels like covering for bad play that he knows is coming. Also feels pretty defensive. Going after GL gives him some town points but not enough to cover for the rest.

ofrhz Scum. Started with neutral when I was putting this together but the more I think on it the more he feels like scum. There is some good content in his iso but I do not see any reaction when he pushes and asks questions but is ignored. That feels like he actually does not care about the answers - just wants to appear to be hunting. 1016 is a stand out example here - he calls out Friday for several reasons and asks directly about reasoning behind friday's reads. Friday does not respond at all and ofrhz does not seem to even notice. I would not be surprised if these 2 were a scum team.

Prof Fridays Scum. Not really keen on his lynch choice. Feels like he just did not want to be on the mislynch with his scum buddies. 1235 was bad. REALLY bad. What possible town reason would there be to refuse to put a case on a player you are scum reading?

Myloninja Scum. No content here at all. Very bad reasoning when there is a 'read' and overall not adding anything to the hunt.

I know I have a lot of scum here but there are just a lot of players that seem scummy in this game. Had to do this really fast - about an hour so I will expand more during day and try to be more clear with some of my reads if there are any questions."

For a few reasons, I don't believe Koki as scum busses Pine straight out day 1. Also, that would mean that all 3 members of the scumteam messed up on day 1 which is kinda hard to believe. This is an extremely simplistic reason to suspect someone, especially in endgame. I would expect better from town. That guess about something supposedly making me scum was also horrendously vague. And what was that about Kokichi

You know, my conclusions from interactions with flipped scum are what they are, but that does not mean I should ignore the players themselves. From my point of view, the situation is extremely simple. One of Ofrhz, Kokichi and myself has to be the last scum, so from my point of view it has to be Ofrhz or Kokichi. More importantly, whoever the last scum is, he needs two mislynches to win.

I put in a lot of effort in that challenge where I wrote a script that scraped the MS wiki for words and found like 2? words (this was after we had checked off all the presumably easier-to-find words). You can even cross check the words I posted with distinct words on the MS wiki, they're going to be a good match.

The argument that Scum!Ofhz could've just switched to Enigma is okay in theory but 1) There was no guarantee of Enigma getting lynched 2) If it did happen then Enigma voters would've been pretty scrutinised, but most people townread me so they'd be left with a {Ofrhz, Koki, Pine} pool with Chick being the most likely scum off that wagon. So it could've doomed the scum team in a way tbh.

I'll be blatant here, my head is screaming to go for Kokichi but my gut is screaming to go for Feysal.

On one hand, objectively Kokichi is far more suspicious lol. Like, if I had a list of stats on what happened this game and nothing else I'd pretty easily go for Kokichi. But the thing is, players can't be defined by a list of stats and I know that Feysal is very capable of acting towny as scum. Kokichi doesn't seem to be behaving like I'd expect them as scum to do so, but not in a direct way. It's just lots of little things that don't make sense in my head for Kokichi!Scum.

But, I also know from experience that as scum sometimes you DON'T have a reason for doing things. You can just do a thing because "why not?". So it could easily be Kokichi!Scum just doing whatever.

Buuuut then my gut screams that Kokichi has to be town even though so much of the evidence is against them?!?

Like, I've already said this but I find Koki scummy on a basic level, but past that I don't find them that scummy. For Feysal, it's the opposite, as they've really done nothing that can't be explained as towny but past that I've played with them and I feel like they've played like that before? And then they both flipped yesterday, but for Feysal it was to someone who could be lynched and for Koki it was someone who was less likely to be lynched which I think is scummy for Feysal? But at the same time it could be Koki preparing for the next day? And what about the fact I'm alive over Guilty, where as Feysal would prefer to have Guilty here as he didn't weirdly townread Koki like I did but also maybe that's Koki framing him or maybe I could drown in WIFOM??? But also like it could've just been a reasonable NK, like Teacher/FAQ/Irelephant? Oh, and what about that Enigma kill? Sus? Maybe? Weird kill with Guilty still there, way more lynchable than him. Unless..... was Enigma right on KOKI :O Or maybe Feysal did that to frame him or MORE WIFOM. The Pine VS. Like, they did mimic their town play and helped with challenges, especially the easy ones and when your explanation as to what you'd do as scum is what you're doing then like I dunno where to go from there. And their response to their biggest regret; hell honestly both theirs and Koki's BOTH sound kinda meh but particularly Feysal's. I don't think most of them require much explanation. Most of them were widely town read, and therefore difficult or impossible to mislynch, which is reason enough to kill them. Enigma is the only exception that stands out. GuiltyLion speculated that he could have slipped or crumbed or hinted at being fortunate, but if he did, I never noticed. I think that would have been a weak reason anyway, with a high risk of hitting an unfortunate instead, as he was. The most likely reason I can think of is that he suspected Kokichi. Enigma last voted Kokichi before being killed, and was the only person to do so besides Creative, who was lynched. Apart from that, you can see the suspicion in multiple posts from Enigma, including 1138, 1289, 1326 and 1416.

Throw Feysal in there. I definitely TR Elephant, Ofrhz and Feysal the most.
Conf is a strong word unless its mod or mechanic confirmed haha, I like townread better, so I don't embarrass myself end game.

Don't mind if I'm not conftown though, just would be nice not to be lynched haha.

I am joking, but I actually considered this yesterday. We have two fortunates and one scum left alive. If we could organize a three way tie, because of the special voting powers of fortunates, the scum would automatically be lynched in a tie without having to draw straws. Only problem is there is no way to guarantee a three way tie.

Scratch that. I'm not joking. I just had an idea as I was writing this which would increase the chance of town victory from 1/2 to 2/3.

Here is how it works. You must choose randomly who to vote, and include

yourself

in the lynch pool. Roll a die or something. 1 or 2, you vote me. 3 or 4, you vote Kokichi. 5 or 6, you vote yourself. This works because scum does not only need to convince you to vote town. Scum needs you to vote the

same

town scum is voting! By including yourself as an option, you will force scum to guess who they should vote, which increases town odds considerably.

If you vote yourself, and scum votes you, scum wins. Probability of this is 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/6.
If you vote town, and scum votes town, scum wins. Probability is 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/6.
If you vote yourself, but scum votes town, scum loses. Probability is 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/6.
If you vote town, but scum votes you, scum loses. Probability is 1/3 * 1/2 = 1/6.
If you vote scum, it does not matter who scum votes, because the other town always votes scum. Scum loses, and the probability is 1/3.
In total, this gives town a 2/3 chance of victory.

Woah, thanks for this post but now I like have to break it up into pieces lol.

First up, yes, Enigma did scumread Koki and then get killed. Which at first glance is bad for Koki but at the same point this comes back to head VS. gut because you know he was doing that means it's a super easy suspicion NK. Besides, as scum!you, I don't see what's all too crazy about killing Enigma here? At that point everyone seemed to be townreading you and Enigma, despite GL's suspicion, was not a very viable mislynch. And I'm pretty sure GL in particular was townreading you just as strongly anyway?

But then we get to this which is something I immediately panicked about lol, because I'd actually PLANNED to do this. I asked Mutant what would happen in a 3-way tie with two town and he said that the scum would be lynched. At first I was annoyed because if koki is scum you just told them the plan and meant that I couldn't safely self-vote, but as found out on the next page it wouldn't have worked regardless

Anyway, this maths is pretty cool and checks out, but considering it doesn't matter I can't reaaally give town points to it? Not as much as I'd wanted to.

Some thoughts about that thought dump... I don't know why you would be troubled by my switch to Ofrhz. If you knew me better, you might even view it as a town tell. If I were scum, I would need to worry about appearances, and try to be reasonable and consistent with my reads. As town, I would be more likely to change my mind, being free from such concerns. Besides, I thought I had explained why I switched. The reasons Ofrhz suspected me for were so bad I did not believe they came from town, I thought he had an agenda to have me lynched. I was also pissed off. I try to be calm and logical as I play, but I'm not above getting angry. That was something Ofrhz was wrong about in his final analysis by the way. I don't think I have ever tried to appeal to emotions. If I sound angry, it is because I am. That post he quoted was in fact a bah post, written when I thought I had been speedlynched straight out of V/LA, and being unable to do anything about it because there was not even enough time for me to catch up.

As for my scum play being similar to my play here, well, you asked. I don't like to talk about my own meta, since it has gotten me in trouble with people who disagreed with my interpretation, but I have in fact never lied about it. Anyway, just because I mimic my town play as scum does not mean there are no differences. I already mentioned my level of effort and motivation as examples. As scum I also might not share my best ideas with the town. My first post in this game, where I said people should say in their last will when they became fortunate, is something I might keep to myself if I were scum. The post above about the merits of voting yourself, definitely.

AHhh so the first paragraph is really fair and it's a fair point. Koki flipping from not wanting you to wanting you is probably more suspicious than you going for Ofrhz.

The second paragraph can be a bit WIFOM but aside from the last sentence it's pretty reasonable.

I was looking forward to a more interesting challenge, and this is frankly disappointing. Our odds of guessing correctly twice are only 26%, and that is without scum interference. That said, I have thought of

one

strategy that may be beneficial to us, but I can't talk about it yet. If I forget to bring it up, remind me.

The good thing about this challenge is that there is no time limit. We can discuss reads to our hearts' content.

I think Chickadee may be town. Those posts about confirming whether we could share our last wills does not look like something that would even occur to scum, since they'd have to fabricate a townish last will anyway.

I don't think I've ever had such a strong town read on someone before they even posted once, but I got one from Northsidegal. Yes, posting your reads would be an easy way for a scum replacement to look good, but I really doubt those reads came from scum, particularly Myloninja. His activity makes him lynchbait, and I don't believe scum would speak that strongly on his behalf.

My last will was only a reminder to share when you became fortunate in your last will. And apparently since we have to write our last will before the new fortunate is chosen, if a fortunate dies with no mention of it, we have to assume they were chosen the same night they died.

AHhhhhh, like the entire time at the end I knew Koki was more suspicious technically, I just felt like it was too easy, and Koki's actions seemed towny to me. Both of y'all played very well btw, great game haha.

Honestly, it might've been better if one of Ofrhz/Feysal was a fortunate as I'm pretty sure both of them wouldn't have lynched me over Koki haha.
