The crew members were concerned about the Captain. Lately, she had been acting strangely: never eating with the rest of them, being curt in conversation, and patrolling around the ship with a flashlight late at night. Nobody was actually sure that she ever went to bed.


July 5th.

The Captain ordered the crew to cut the engines and let the ship drift. No explanation was given – she made the order and retreated to her quarters, alone.


July 6th.

The crew mmebers had had enough. The strange behavior was enough on its own, but they needed an explanation for cutting the engines. Everyone had a job to do – their cargo had to be delivered on time. Nobody had seen the Captain come out of her quarters since the previous day, and so together they stormed their way in.

They were over 200 miles off of the coast of South Africa, just near the border of Namibia. It was obvious that this wasn't the act of pirates, and from the state of the body there was no way it could be an accident or suicide.

The implication was clear, and went without saying as the crewmen looked between each other with equal parts disbelief and suspicion.

Deciding to take action, someone stepped past the body over to the loudspeaker system.

Listen up! Nobody's getting a wink of sleep until we get this situation figured out and under control!

The heat has a way of getting to you on a clear day out at sea. Brigitte was nervous. Was she next?

Her paniced behavior did not go unnoticed. Soon enough, a crowd of people had surrounded her, questioning her as to knowledge or guilt regarding what happened to the Captain. For Brigitte, it became too much.

Soon enough shouting turned to shoving, and shoving turned into an all-out brawl on the deck.

After enough fists had flown and the commotion died down, the crew noticed something strange: they seemed to be down a person.

Xtoxm was nowhere to be found.

Unlike the reason the fight began in the first place, not a single person testified seeing him leave. There was only one other way he could have escaped sight – going overbaord.

Had he jumped? Had he been pushed? There was no way to tell.

NON-FLAVORED SETUP INFORMATION:

The Mafia has been fully informed of the setup from the beginning of the game.

There are 3 Mafia and 10 Vanilla Townies.

The first two night phases will be skipped. At the beginning of the game, Town will be informed that "Until further notice, there will be no night phases."

Whenever a member of the Mafia is lynched Day 1 or Day 2, they must confirm 5 living players to be aligned with the Town. This will result in their loss if Mafia is lynched both Day 1 and Day 2.



The game will change starting from Day 3. At this point, the Mafia will begin "escaping". Each night, in addition to a mandatory kill, one of the Mafia must choose to "escape", and will exit the game being revealed to be Mafia.

However, at this point, if just one member of the Mafia is lynched, the Mafia loses.

The Mafia wins when all living members of the Mafia escape.

If no Mafia were lynched Day 1 or Day 2, one member of the Mafia will escape immediately following the end of Day 2.

The Town will become fully informed of the setup starting at the beginning of Day 3.

The Day had been long.

After the Deck Officer's explanation, the ship had been fully searched. What he said was true: explosives had been planted in key structural locations.

Today would not be a repeat of the previous day, however. There would be no frantic scrambling around the deck. There were no nervous breakdowns, or arguments devolving into fistfights. The full weight of the situation that the crew had found themselves in was known to them all: if they did not succeed here, they awaited nothing but a watery grave.

Newly emboldened, they set out to review every one of their alibis and determine the basics of how the situation they found themselves in had come to pass. Where had every crew member been? Why did nobody see Flubbernugget escaping? How had they managed to get the explosives on-board?


As it turned out, officially Chara was meant to be rooming with Flubbernugget, but Succinct had asked to switch given issues with snoring. Similar oddities and inconsistencies began to pop up in his story as the questioning continued. Eventually, an agreement was reached that they would simply search the room for evidence.


As they began to walk, Succinct began to reach into his jacket before being tackled to the ground. In his pocket was a silenced pistol and a detonator.

i'd like to thank everyone for playing and especially those who replaced in. thank you for sticking through what's become my longest modded game ever (surpassing gunner mafia... the large theme game...)


i would like to apologize to everyone for what i felt was subpar modding. i hope that you don't take this as my normal standard, as i become busier than i had expected shortly after the beginning of this game.

scum don't have to have a perfect game in order to win. that'd be the original extradition mafia. the intent of this setup was to allow a little leeway there.

i'll say again what i said in the dead thread and what schadd said to me in the setup thread – normal games with no scum lynches day one or day two lead to town wins only 15% of the time. that's

normal games

, which people love to complain about having townsided setups so much. in this game, when that happens we reward scum. the only benefit to town when that happens in this setup is the information of a scum flip – that's certainly not useless, but i don't think it makes the setup townsided.

i think that this game, like a lot of games that i run (and perhaps moreso than most normal setups) tends to reward pro-active scumplay and punish the "sit back and let town explode" type of scumplay.

yes, associatives were something scum had to keep in mind. they had an entire game's worth of preparation to do so.


what's more, it seems to me that some people are implying that town would have lost had it not been for the townsided setup. to that i would say that, looking at the larger picture town did fairly well this game. i consider it pretty much a fluke that flubbernugget wasn't lynched when he was. i don't think almost anyone was townreading succinct – all it took was tohru pointing that out and calling for votes there to make the wagon happen.

that being said, i wouldn't say that i have much personal connection to this setup. i like to think that i'm fully willing to accept that i created a whateversided setup.

yeah, there was a lot of tvt fighting. i think it's true that for most games most fights will be tvt, and that's just numbers, although maybe it also involves a propensity for most scum players to try to avoid conflict.

not trying to attack anyone's play here, but i don't think scum did a good enough job of getting townread or fighting the succinct wagon as they needed to. enter was pretty much the only secret agent who actively got townread – succinct didn't really make enough of an impact as was necessary. (although creature was generally townread)

i dunno. like, once the succinct wagon started it never really went away. most of succinct's responses only served to increase the scumreads, and the only real counterwagon attempts that went anywhere came from town.


it seems to me like succinct was still getting lynched there regardless of whether it ended the game or not. it seems to me like the only reason flubbernugget

wasn't

lynched was the setup. i guess i just don't see it.


do scum deserve to win a game where they're not really all that townread just because there's a lot of town infighting? i don't know.

i think the setup was probably

balanced

it was just

swingy

an early scum lynch fucks the scumteam irrevocably

it was almost like white flag kinda in terms of swing/balance

(though i do think if it errs in either direction, it errs on the side of being townsided)

i think that's a pretty good comparison (it was even noted in the setup thread that the fact that two scum lynches in the first two days ends the game is really just similar to white flag)

i think it's swing based on the randomization of the alignments – like tohru described, stronger scum players perhaps getting even more of an advantage compared to a regular game and vice versa.

The only people who said the game was scumsided were Tohru (myself), northsidegal (the really smart host), and Ankamius.

i don't think the setup is necessarily scumsided.

The only sad thing about the setup is that it relies on the element of surprise, so it can't be rerunned.

well like i said in the setup thread, i originally designed this as an open and just sort of decided to make it into a spooky closed theme setup. it would definitely change things having town know the setup from the start, but it definitely could still be run again with everything known, i feel.

i originally wanted a scum lynch d1 or d2 to only confirm 4 townies

that would lead to a 3 person lylo day three with everyone except the three as confirmed town, which i thought was an interesting enough concept. the problem is that it's sort of punishing EV-wise – in return for playing extraordinarily well, town is put into the worst situation EV wise. in a sense, their good play has been actively counterproductive to their wincon.

i suppose i could keep it as 4 townies but just make it white flag d1 / d2? takes a bit away from the "elegance" of the setup, though.

might just make a thread in the open setups forum
