Firstly, none of this does not make what you are doing scummy behavior.

I'm enabling a strong townie work his magic and trying to assist in getting things done and helping the game progress. That doesn't feel quite not not scummy to me.

that DOES help you talk your way out of a no result but it doesn't help prevent the cop from targetting you in the first place. which is pretty scum motivated.

not to say that you literally cannot be dumbtown, but it seems unlikely.
